Story
Buster is a gorgeous Golden Retriever mix who is a young adult (about 2 years old). He lives with dogs of all sizes and gets along with everyone but he is dominant over food so I feed him separately. He also lives with cats and kittens and has never tried to chase them and doesn't really pay attention to them. He is low-to-medium energy in general but has the stamina to go on long hikes, etc. He is not a barker and not a jumper and not a bolter. He likes to be petted. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tacoma, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Adoption fee: $550 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma and all vetting listed above) Adoption application (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 FAQs (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://docs.google.com/document/d/12eb_SRtk1AzaBl87UltcLJ24MjH9UhQm_LE77iWZEQA/edit?tab=t.0 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95

Story
Maggie is about 5 yrs old. She was rescued, but confirmed to be a full blooded golden retriever. She is living with another dog and a cat. She harasses the cat, but is not aggressive toward her. She would do best in a more active home where she doesn't have to compete for attention (NO OTHER PETS). She is obedience trained, very sweet, housebroken and always eager to learn, but needs someone who is experienced handling high energy dogs. So, why are we rehoming her? We are older and she gets very excited; in a friendly way (she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body) when she sees other dogs and sometimes people. When this happens, it creates a perfect storm, and makes it unsafe for either of us to walk the two dogs together. My 6’3” partner has fallen several times when she lunged toward another dog or person, making it nearly impossible for him to manage both dogs. As we are older, the risk of falls/fracture is too scary.

Story
Meet DJ! A spirited three-year-old Golden Retriever currently in Berlin, CT, whose essence is a golden swirl of boundless energy and heartfelt expressions. With his sun-kissed coat and 67 pounds of joyful motion, DJ is the kind of pup who seems to wear his heart on his paw. Whether he's chasing his beloved ball, galloping after bird shadows, or leaping after falling leaves, DJ turns every moment outside into a celebration of life! DJ is the definition of expressive, he’ll greet you with whimpers of joy when you walk in the door and flop dramatically with a groan when he’s feeling overlooked. He even has a bedtime routine that involves resting his chin on the coffee table and locking eyes until someone gets the message: time to wind down! His playful side shines when he's outdoors or hanging out with other dogs, and he’s a favorite at doggy daycare for his friendly and social nature. He knows a great list of commands (sit, stay, come, down, paw, high five) and is both crate- and house-trained. DJ also does well when left alone for short periods and usually just naps until you return. Now, let’s talk about something important: DJ’s resource guarding. This behavior likely stems from growing up in a large litter where he had to compete for meals. While he’s made impressive progress through hand-feeding, training, and structure, he can still feel uneasy in situations where food or new toys are involved. If he senses that something valuable might be taken from him, he may communicate discomfort with a low growl or by showing his teeth. These moments are infrequent and haven’t led to harm, but they are important cues that DJ uses to express stress. His new family should be comfortable reading those signals and giving him space when needed. With consistency, patience, and continued use of positive reinforcement, DJ is learning that he’s safe and supported. DJ’s anxiety is currently well-managed with medication, and he thrives in a calm, child-free home where routines are predictable and caregivers are experienced. With the right guidance, he’ll continue blossoming into a loyal, goofy, and deeply affectionate companion! Could DJ be the golden-hearted sidekick your home has been missing? Story
About Karley Approx. 5 years old | 77.6 lbs | Gentle, devoted companion This sweet girl has had a series of loving homes due to human circumstances—not behavior issues. Her first owner adopted her as a young dog and adored her until he passed away. She was then taken in by his best friend, who later became seriously ill. During that time, she showed an extraordinary level of awareness—waking him at night when his oxygen equipment wasn’t working or when he needed assistance, despite having no training to do so. Most recently, she moved again when a resident cat was unable to adjust to sharing the home. Each transition has been handled with care and love, and she has remained gentle and emotionally connected throughout. 🐾 Personality & Temperament Exceptionally gentle and affectionate Very people-oriented—she bonds deeply and wants to be near her person Can feel anxious if separated, but not destructive Calm and settles well indoors, sleeps through the night Previously assessed by a trainer as easy to train and a possible therapy-dog candidate (assessment copy pending) 🧠 Training & Motivation House-trained Walks nicely on leash and is accustomed to regular grooming Not food-motivated—she works for touch, praise, and affection Responds well to guidance and human connection rather than treats 🏡 Lifestyle & Social Skills Loves car rides, swimming, and toys Good with children of all ages Does well with both large and small dogs (with proper introductions) No known aggression issues 🚧 Management Notes (Honest & Important) She can clear a 4-foot fence if left unattended in a yard Interestingly, she respects an invisible fence very well Best suited for a home where she isn’t left alone outdoors and where companionship is valued 💗 Ideal Home She will thrive with someone who: Wants a true companion, not a backyard dog Is home often or enjoys including their dog in daily life Understands that closeness and reassurance—not treats—are what motivate her Appreciates a calm, emotionally intuitive dog with a big heart

Story
WE ARE A TX-BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application at haydudeequine.org Meet Creamsicle – The Golden-Hearted Girl Who Never Stopped Believing in Love At around 9 months old and 48 pounds, Creamsicle is a beautiful Golden Retriever–Great Pyrenees mix who somehow ended up with all the Golden personality and only the Pyrenees fluff. Sweet, friendly, eager, affectionate—this girl is sunshine in dog form. If Golden Retrievers had a motivational speaker division, Creamsicle would be the CEO. But her start wasn’t golden at all. Creamsicle spent her whole puppyhood tied to a tether outside a trailer, watching the world from a spot of dirt she never deserved. No toys. No soft beds. No one to run to. No one to run with. And yet… her heart never quit. When she first came to us, she had a little food aggression around other dogs—understandable when you’ve never known if your next meal was guaranteed. But with time, consistency, and the realization that she’s finally safe, Creamsicle has blossomed beautifully. She’s now doing wonderfully with her dog friends and has never shown an ounce of aggression toward people. Humans, in her eyes, are made of magic—especially the ones willing to pet her. And oh, does she love to be loved. She leans in, she wiggles, she smiles with her whole face. She gives love like she’s been storing it up for months—because she has. Creamsicle deserved so much more than what she got in her puppy months, but she refuses to dwell on the past. She’s too busy soaking up cuddles, handing out kisses, and living her best “I’m finally free!” life. Her capacity for forgiveness and joy would put most of us to shame. This girl is resilient, goofy, grateful, and ready. Ready for a family. Ready for a home. Ready to love—and to be loved back. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle, funny, deeply affectionate companion with a heart big enough to light up your whole house… Creamsicle is your girl. Apply today at haydududeequine.org, and get ready to welcome a brave, bouncy, golden-hearted miracle into your arms, heart and home!! 🐾
