Story
Susie is a happy, loving good girl who just happens to listen with her heart instead of her ears. She’s about 5 years old, might be a lab mix, and came to HCAS when her owner faced medical issues and could no longer care for her.It took Susie and the staff a few days to realize she appears to be deaf, but once she settled in, her sweet personality really started to shine. She came from a home where she was house-trained, and she LOVES going for walks with “her” person and soaking up one-on-one time. Volunteers enjoy spending time with Susie and say she’s a happy, steady companion who’s easy to fall in love with.Living with a deaf dog like Susie is less “scary” than it sounds; it just means communicating in a slightly different way. Many deaf dogs live totally normal, happy lives using hand signals, gentle touch, and routines instead of verbal cues, and they often become experts at reading their person’s body language. With a secure yard or leash walks, a little extra attention to safety, and lots of love, Susie can keep being the good girl she has always been.If you’ve been thinking about opening your home to a devoted companion and are willing to learn a few simple hand signals, Susie would love to show you how special life with a deaf dog can be. Come meet her and see just how loudly her love speaks.

This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue.  Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website.  Call or text 864-437-6186 for more information or to adopt the pet.Piper is a sweet, playful and affectionate girl who’s ready to bring endless love and joy to her forever family. She’s loyal, gentle and full of energy — the perfect companion for an active family who enjoys walks, runs (she loves to tag along mile after mile) or playtime in the yard.Piper absolutely loves her people and would do wonderfully in a home with kids or another friendly dog to play with. She’s great with other dogs, though she can be a little shy at first when meeting new friends. Don’t worry — she warms up quickly and has never shown a bit of aggression. She’s just a sweet, submissive soul who wants to be loved. She’s 100% house-trained, knows her basic commands (“sit,” “stay”, “down”) and currently uses a dog door. She’s just as happy snoozing at the foot of your bed as she is curling up right beside you for cuddles.Because Piper is such a loving companion, she does best in a home where someone is around most of the day or where she has another dog friend to keep her company. Her current family loves her deeply but must find her a new home due to a move and a situation with another dog. Piper has no behavioral issues — she’s just an amazing, well-mannered, affectionate dog who deserves a happy new beginning.  She does, however, get nervous around fireworks and loud noises and can bark when excited. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving and playful family member, Piper is ready to fill your home with joy, laughter and unconditional love.Call or text  864-437-6186 today to learn more about lovable Piper! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue.  Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website.  Contact bret.e.polk@gmail.com or (817) 320-0538 for more information or to adopt the pet. What Neo loves: Neo is a classic good boy dog. He is a bit of a dufus (except when trying to get a treat or locate a ball, then he turns into a genius), he loves to run and play, he loves being pet and snuggled. And will bring joy to your home in the right setting. We have had Neo since we adopted him as a puppy at 8 weeks old. And I hope he can find the same love he gives to us everyday. Neo loves to play ball! Nothing makes Neo happier than chasing after the ball and playing fetch. He would play all day in the backyard if he had it his way.  Neo loves to give kisses. Neo is very affectionate when he is comfortable with people. Expect a few licks to make you feel better when you are having a long day.  Neo loves to snuggle up in bed. In an ideal world Neo loves to be snuggled up by your chest or feet when you are watching a movie. He is the perfect companion to keep you warm in the winter, although he sleeps in his dog bed the majority of the time because he can be a bit of a bed hog! Neo loves to go for walks and hikes. Neo is great on the leash and loves to go on long walks when it is not too hot outside. Neo will stick by your side and not be thrown off by other dogs walking or people passing by.  Neo loves treats! You will never meet a more food-motivated dog. He will sit, stay, lay down, shake and do anything for some food!  Neo loves other dogs. He is a dogs dog at heart, he loves to play tug-of-war with his friends and can be entertained all day. I think him having an in-home canine companion would be a huge positive for Neo. Neo loves other animals. In our current home we have another dog, a rabbit, chickens and a cat. Neo coexists with all of them after warming up initially and quite quickly!  Neo loves his owners. Neo will love, protect and always be there for you. He is a fiercely loyal dog. Neo loves butt scratches! You know you have made a lifelong friend with him when he goes between your legs and lets you scratch the top of his butt.  Neo loves to protect your house. Neo has scared off bear and deer, and is a great security system.  You will feel safe at night knowing Neo will hear and alert you to any activity outside your home.  Neo loves space to run and play! What Neo does not like: Neo likes to not be the center of attention on walks. Strangers coming up to him from a distance cause him to be anxious and it is best to give Neo space. However, Neo loves walks and can walk by people/dogs just fine. He just doesn’t like when someone is getting overly excited and approaching.  Neo does not like windy car rides. Neo loves the mountains but he gets a bit anxious in the car for extended periods of time especially when we drive him up into the mountains. His ideal scenario is being on someone's lap for the car ride or in the passenger seat. However, Neo has done many long roadtrips with us.  Neo does not like thunderstorms. When he hears thunder he wants to jump up into bed and be by his owners.  Neo does not like apartment-like settings. Neo thrives in open space environments. Apartments and small corridors make him anxious and he can bark around apartment doors.  Neo does not like the mailman. Neo tends to be barky/reactive at the sound of someone knocking on the door/ringing the doorbell. This is not the best time to introduce him to new people. Neo needs warming up with introductions. In our current set-up we introduce him to new people at the fence gate in the backyard and sometimes give them treats to ease the introduction, partly because he gets overexcited and wants to jump on those who are coming in. The best personalities in this scenario are those who approach Neo with confidence and say “Hi Neo” as they are getting to know him. That being said this part of being Neo’s owner is important. Having people over can be stressful for Neo, and he does better with a few introductions at a time. In a party-like setting, it may be better to put him away in the crate. Neo does not like the unpredictability of young children (toddlers). Neo would be best with a couple with no children, a single individual, or a large property with lots of other dogs. Contact me today at bret.e.polk@gmail.com or (817) 320-0538 to meet Neo! All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Story
Introducing Brownie- another unclaimed stray puppy who was found and never reclaimed. Her finder is going to foster her until a forever home is found. Brownie estimated to be a 5 1/2 month old Chocolate Lab mix, great with children, and other dogs. Brownie is a playful pup, loves to be in your lap and cuddled. She loves Tuffy toys since she quickly chews them up due to her teething. Brownie is a by your side type of girl, wherever you are she loves to be! Brownie is already crate trained and potty trained to use puppy pads. She is high energy but would make a great companion with her cuddles. She loves belly rubs and treats. Brownie is still learning house manners, and can be a little mischievous but is a quick learner and as very loving companion! She does not have much cat exposure apart from seeing them from a distance but wasn't phased. Shes started on vaccines, deworming and flea prevention and willw also be spayed and microchipped prior to adoption. Location : Chestnut hill TENNESSEE
