Story

Buddy is an inquisitive 5-year-old lab/hound mix. He absolutely loves to be outside, nose to the ground, exploring his surroundings. It takes some time for Buddy to get used to a person and he can be a really protective dog when it comes to those he is fond of. Once he gets to know you, Buddy loves to spend time with you. He is content to be around other dogs and loves to take a nap. He has the perfect energy balance of excitement when outside, but calm and quiet inside. Due to his protective nature, Buddy has a couple of biting incidents in his history. He would benefit from a force free trainer and leash training as well. Newton is a very sweet boy that was surrendered to us this past summer. The people that had him were not able to care for him and requested to surrender. Newton likes most dogs and actually feels more comfortable in the company of other dogs. Newton does very well with women but tends to be fearful of men. That is something that could be worked on with time and patience. Newton is completely vetted, housebroken, and cratetrained. He loves to run and play with both his person and his doggie friends. He loves stuffies, bones, and tug toys. Newton is a great dog that just needs someone to give him a chance.

Lucy is a 1 year old female. She is 40 - 50 lbs. She has small prey drive and cannot live with small dogs or cats. She came from a cruelty case so she can be shy meeting new people. She rides great in the car. She can only live with other large dogs however she values her items (food/toys) so she will need an adopter who can maintain this behavior.** Lucy is in our care in Altoona PA. She is available for adoption. Each animal gets microchipped, spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The adoption fee covers those costs. Adoption fees are listed on the application. An application must be filled out in order to visit with any dog or cat. They can be found on our website www.centralpahumane.org under the Adopt A Pet tab, then clicking adoption (do not click browse our pets!) or at the shelter. Our animals are posted on Facebook and Petfinder when time permits. A Petfinder inquiry is not an application, and they may not be responded to. We can only accept so many applications for each animal. We do adopt out of state, but we cannot hold the animal. **PA Kennel License #1333.
