Story
Mina was found roaming with a companion, Mitch, in a park in Houston. Someone had been feeding her for a few months and said that her and Mitch had been living in the park and chasing cars. Mina and Mitch never let strangers approach them, but when an SSR volunteer went to go see them, the dogs came right up to the volunteer like it was always meant to be.  Mina arrived to Virginia on February 2nd, 2023, but has been in a boarding facility as there were no fosters available to take her. She would love nothing more than to have a forever home, or even a foster home while she's waiting.  She is very sweet and takes treats very gently when volunteers are speaking one on one time with her. Mina loves people, but can also be timid when there is a lot going on, such as during adoption events. She walks great on a leash and is doesn't pull despite having no formal training. Mina can sometimes be jumpy, but it's out of affection and looking for love. She loves running around in the yard and playing with other dogs. We&#39 Mina does not mind cats but will chase if they run and she thinks they are playing. She plays rough with all our other dogs (7lbs to 60 lbs). She very basic leash training. She is wants to chase/investigate anything new while walking. Knows her name, comes when called if on long leash. Comes when she wants time in the yard. She should have canine playmate as she has always been with another dog. Needs a fence; she likes to engage with critters outside the yard. Humans need to be aware that surprise hugs are met with cowering.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  If you are an approved adopter and are interested in this dog, please let your case worker know. Story
The easiest way to describe Mitch is “A 1-yo puppy that doesn’t know big he is!” Mitch was found roaming with a companion, Mina, in a park in Houston. Someone had been feeding him for a few months and said that he and Mina had been living in the park and chasing cars. Mitch and Mina never let strangers approach them, but when an SSR volunteer went to go see them, the dogs came right up to the volunteer like it was always meant to be. Mitch has thrived since being freed from boarding and adapting to life in his fosters’ homes.  He now lives with two large resident dogs and a 3-month-old SSR puppy – and he will act just as much a puppy as the baby, however he is extremely intelligent and easy to train!  He is perfect on “sit” “down” “easy” and “roll.” He does super in his crate and goes in himself on a “go home” command.  But don’t have cats loose in house while he’s crated – see comment below. We are working on “wait” when being fed and when doors are opened, “come” when out playing in the yard, and getting in the car. He takes treats very gently and loves a good head scratch or belly rub.   He is skinny from all the time spent as a stray, but with some extra attention and calories, is going to be a fantastic, handsome gentleman. He walks beautifully on a leash, doesn’t pull, doesn’t lunge or go after other dogs or squirrels or people.  He has an amazing leap – so if you have a busy neighborhood, a 6’ fence is recommended.  He leaps over our 3’ gate just to romp in the yard and stretch his long legs. He loves his people and wants to cuddle on couch or in bed with you and will be your most loyal companion! He does great with babies and walks gently next to the stroller. He is scared of cats, but he is being introduced to resident cats regularly to overcome this anxiety. This may be the same for smaller dogs, so testing this with neighbors Yorkie What have people said about Mitch? SSR volunteer said: “Mitch is a very sweet pup who walks on a leash like a champion with no pulling at all.” Foster Family friend said: “Wow, his eyes are gorgeous, what a handsome boy!” From his Foster mom: I used to think that Mitch required another dog in the household to thrive, however, he loves his alone time to walk and snuggle with his foster mom, so that probably depends on the potential household. Story
Milo is such a cutie! Just look at those ears! This sweet boy came from an appalling living situation in Texas where he and his sister were chained up, neglected, and starving. Despite being mistreated by the people who were supposed to love him and take care of him, he still loves being around people. Because of how he was mistreated it just takes a little bit of time for him to warm up to new people but once he does, he loves getting belly rubs and loved on. You will fall in love with this resilient, playful guy. When Milo meets other dogs, he can be nervous at first but after a proper introduction, he makes friends quickly and adores his buddies. He has an adorable bromance with fellow TVR rescue, Murphy. He has a lot of energy and will thrive in a home where he will get plenty of exercise and enrichment. He will be a great adventure buddy for an active person or family! Do you have space in your heart and home for Milo? If you think you might be a good match, head on over to our website to fill out an Adoption Application. *He is a little chatty, so he isn't well suited for an apartment/condo environment. He just likes to talk to his friends!

Story
Wait until you meet our 10-month-old Lab mix, Paco! He weighs 40 pounds now but expected to reach up to 55 pounds. He wears a short black and white coat that is nice to stroke. He enjoys playing with other dogs and people (including kids) but no cats! Everyone has their preferences, right? Mars has a great temperament and loves to play with toys. He would make a great family addition. (ME, 1/15/23)     **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption: $375 which covers quarantine, shots, worming, medical records, spaying/neutering, microchip and an Alabama State Health Certificate.   Transport, if needed  $160   We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip . We make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs.  June 7, 2023, 12:04 am

Story
This good-looking fellow is Blue, a 1 ½ year old mix of Lab and Husky.  He weighs about 55 pounds now and shouldn’t increase in weight anymore.  (Unless you feed him doughnuts!) The first time you meet him, you’ll see how his short, black coat shines in the sun!  Blue (called that due to one of his eyes being part blue) is a good boy.  He gets along well with other dogs at daycare, and he’s terrific with his foster’s six-year-old son.  And they love each other so much!  Although he gets along with all kids, though, it might be best if your family doesn’t have very small children, not because he’ll intentionally hurt them, but he might knock them over because he’s excited at play.  Shy upon meeting, Blue would do best in a home with another dog, a pal who could help him feel more comfortable with his time spent alone.  A canine friend would really be great!  A fine boy, he would be a great addition to your family!  (posted 2/2/2023) **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption and transport: $200  June 7, 2023, 12:04 am

Story
This is Bria, a mix of Lab and Husky who, at 1 year old, has reached her mature weight of between 45 and 50 pounds.  Bria’s a lovely girl, and her short coat of brown and white attest to that. Her eyes are gentle and loving.  She loves to play with other dogs and people, but no cats in the home for her!!!  She loves playing with toys, especially nyla bones.  And she’s great on a leash, too!  What more can you ask for than a dog with a great temperament and good looks?  Hmm.  Can’t think of a thing!  (posted 2/11/23, ME) **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption: $375 which covers quarantine, shots, worming, medical records, spaying/neutering, microchip and an Alabama State Health Certificate.   Transport, if needed  $160   We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip .
