Story
Mika is a curious, happy, people-loving puppy who is ready to be your adventure buddy! She is still learning about the world, but she is already showing us what a smart, eager-to-please girl she is.
Mika LOVES people. She wants to be where her humans are, whether that means playing, going for a walk, snuggling on the couch, or simply lying beside you while you work. She is friendly with everyone she meets and is always happy to greet new people and curl right up next to them when she needs a break.
She has plenty of puppy energy and loves running, playing with people, tug toys, squeaky toys, and other dogs. She has done well with children ages 5–15 and is kind and playful with them. Like any young puppy, she has those sharp puppy teeth and is still learning that hands and clothing aren't chew toys, so younger children will need appropriate supervision and guidance.
Mika also loves other dogs! She lives with a 35-pound Red Heeler mix and is learning all about boundaries from her canine housemate. She has been around dogs of many sizes and ages and enjoys group walks and running and playing with younger dogs. She especially enjoys having a canine friend to interact with.
Mika is still a puppy, so potty training and crate training are works in progress. She needs frequent trips outside because of her age. She is not destructive in her crate and will happily go in during the day to nap, but she may cry initially when separated from her people. She would much rather have her humans nearby than spend an entire workday alone. An adopter who can provide plenty of companionship, exercise, enrichment, and continued training will set her up for success.
And enrichment? Mika has discovered one of her favorite hobbies: hunting bugs! Moths, grasshoppers, and anything else that crawls, jumps, or flies are fair game. Nighttime potty trips can take a little longer when the bugs are flocking around the lights because Mika is determined to investigate every single one.
She is curious about new things and can be a little nervous when something is unfamiliar, but she becomes brave when her people are there to encourage her. She has already learned so much from her foster family and their dog, and she is the kind of puppy who genuinely wants to learn and make her people happy. She even sits for treats!
Mika would love an active home that wants a puppy who can go, learn, play, and grow alongside them. Camping, hiking, long walks, outdoor adventures, training classes, or even a future hunting companion could all be right up her alley. She is equally happy running full speed around the neighborhood or curling up on your lap beside a campfire.
We see some German Shepherd-like traits in Mika, particularly in the way she carries herself and walks with her hind legs, and we think her intelligence, curiosity, and eagerness to please will make training especially rewarding.
Mika is looking for someone who is ready to embrace puppyhood, all the zoomies, training, chewing, learning, cuddling, and laughs that come with it. She is not likely to thrive in a home where she is alone for a full workday, five days a week, especially without breaks or enrichment. She is smart enough to find her own entertainment, and that may include helping herself to things in the garbage if they're left within reach!
Mika brings energy, curiosity, and smiles wherever she goes. She is still figuring out this big world, and she would love to have someone beside her for the adventure.
