Born ~2016, F, Black and White Maine Coon Mix Adoption Fee: $175 ________________________________________ It's hard not to love a black and white kitty with a little pink nose. This sweet girl had been trying to survive outside on her own. We don't know what happened to her but a cat lover found her and brought her to the shelter. She was thin and dusty. This nice shelter did a blood panel on her and found that she had an overactive thyroid, which makes her metabolism speed up and burn thru calories. These kitties are always thin. We at Purebreds have helped a lot of thyroid kitties and know that a very inexpensive pill, methimazole, is what they need. We put her on the standard twice a day dose. Now a month later she has gained weight and her coat began to shine. Perfect. If you take one of these tiny pills and put it in a little bowl with a drop of water it instantly dissolves. Then you mix in a little wet food --maybe a small teaspoon -- and give it to her to eat. Kara eats it immediately and then you give her the rest of her wet food meal. Works like a charm. No pilling necessary. Many people prefer the transdermal form of this medication which is also available. As long as her weight is stable you know she is doing fine, though your vet will want to check her thyroid level at her annuaI exam. So who is she?? She is a darling, a beautiful Maine Coon girl with dramatic black and white markings. Her fur is like silk. Currently she is over 7 pounds, and may end up around 8. She is enormously affectionate. She loves humans and all sorts of attention they bring. Her favorite thing is to place her head in your hand. Pet me Love me Let me sit in your lap. She is going to be a great companion for someone who wants the company of a funny, intelligent girl. She looks like a cartoon character. However please be advised she wants you all to herself. She does not want to, and won't, share you with any other kitty. I do not know how she is with dogs but she is so cranky about other cats. Being the only pet in the house might be the easiest home for her. She loves windows and food and humans and catnip. Maine Coon mix lovers know what intelligent loving companions they are. Her life before rescue was scary so you can't really blame this little gem! She's not an introvert, though when you meet her, she'll shy away so you might think so, but we promise, she's just a good actress and playing hard to get! Any true cat lover knows that it can take time and patience to befriend a new feline family member, but that small investment in time is so worth it! Bernadette aka Bernie is no different. When she is comfortable with you, she is sweet, cuddly, curious, and attentive. She loves a good conversation with you, lots of loving pet time, toys, and sunny places where she can watch her kitty tv and just hang out with you! We think Bernie would love a calm home with people who are gentle and patient. Bernie can be a tad defensive from time to time with other cats but does love to play with her foster mates so a home where she can be queen may be best, though she would most likely be great with another non-dominant cat. Kitty's owner says he is a " snuggly love bug extraordinaire"! This is an affectionate Maine Coon mix that does a Ragdoll flop when in held your arms. He's also being a bully, relentlessly harassing the other cats in the household. It is with great reluctance that his owner has concluded, and we agree, Kitty would be much happier in a quiet home, with no other cats. Kitty is a very quiet cat, that chirps more than meows and purrs a ton. He prefers to be interactive with his person and will sit in the bathroom to supervise while you are getting ready for the day. He's not super playful on his own, but will, if you take the initiative. Kitty recently discovered Leo's Paw bird simulator toy. He loves it! and will chase a string or one of the sticks you wave around for them. He also likes to reach up using your legs as a human stretching post! He's a very sweet, affectionate guy, a velcro lap cat and one that will often sleep with you curled up against your legs at night. Kitty's present household is very quiet with little or no background noises and very few visitors. He becomes a complete scaredy-cat hiding under the bed or in a closet when anyone comes over or when a vacuum is in use. He experienced a urinary blockage earlier this year and has been on special dry food in AM and wet food PM, with no reoccurrence. He's perfectly litter box trained. He loves to eat, and can get chunky fast, so scheduled feedings are best for him. Grooming is easy with Kitty, although he is not "purr" happy about it, he does really well with nail trims, baths and brushing. His long beautiful fur requires regular brushing. Kitty lives with a small dog and other cats but, because he habitually torments them, he will be best with no other cats. You can see in his photos that he should do well with a quiet/lazy cat friendly dog. He's never been around kids, younger kids may frighten him, but we do think he could adjust to kind, respectful, quieter older ones. If you're looking for an affectionate cat, that will bond with you, then Kitty will surely be your forever fur friend! Felicity is a sweet, tender soul who will make a purr-fect companion for some lucky person. Felicity can be somewhat cautious with new situations but quickly warms up once she knows you will treat her with love and kindness (though treats will definitely speed the love up!). Once comfortable, she loves to rub up against your legs, play with strings, wand toys and just enjoy pets and love.
