Story
To adopt from East Coast Maine Coon Rescue (ECMCR) please fill out our adoption application which can be found on our website: http://www.ecmcr.org/form_adoption_application.phpNC - CP Beauty - is a gorgeous black Maine Coon mix.  She is FIV+.   Beauty is a beautiful solid black cat with gorgeous yellow eyes. She has lived most of her adult life outside and homeless at a feed/seed mill. This is likely where she picked up FIV. She has been out of the mill and fostered now for about a year. She is rather untrusting of strangers until she gets to know them. At present, she doesn’t like to be picked up but will heartily come jump in your lap! She is healthy, extremely affectionate, and really craves and loves attention. She will nudge your hand to keep petting her. She loves to play with wand toys and all kinds of ball toys as well as little stuffed animals that she can bat around. She needs an understanding kind-hearted owner who has time to spend with her and one that is sensitive to her special needs. She really enjoys the company of people (in spite of her initial fear of them) and also likes other cats. She has not had experience around dogs.  Beauty is a Courtesy Post cat and does not belong to East Coast Maine Coon Rescue.  She is located in Winston-Salem, NC  27104.  If you are interested in finding out more about sweet Beauty, please contact Gina at taffycatrescuer@gmail.com. Let's talk about all of them individually: Siren (1-3yr Bobtail (how cool) momma cat) - Can she be any better for cuddles love and just lap snuggling?! We think not. This girl was made for therapy and love love love. Waiting way too long for no reason. She even wags her tail like a dog! Just finishing nursing but can go into a foster to adopt situation as the babies are about weaned now! Billie - 1-3y old Bombay momma - this sleek shiny STUNNING girl is way more elegant and way prettier than any photo - she lives for lovin' u and lovin' pretty much everyone! No dogs please but LOVES other cats. Nickel - 1y tuxedo coon boy - Who has the softest plushest fur? Gorgeous eyes and likes being called smushy boy as a nickname? Well this guy! Can he be any cuter?!! Loves kids cats everyone - your bff in his own fancy tux! So sweet we believe this boy is destined to be therapy and joy for all. Marco and Polo - 10-13m Coon Bombay Chocolate beauties - Their fluffy licorice coat makes these boys picture perfect but their hearts are really what makes them shine. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online  Adoption Application adult black Maine Coon boyThese gorgeous boys, Bertie and Lucian, are bonded and should be adopted together. They were found together abandoned in a home, quite a while after their human had gone to a nursing home. It appeared that no one knew for some time that the cats were left behind. The person who found Bertie said the following: "If I am petting the smaller one, Lucian, Bertie will get between us. He is the more affectionate of the two and will sit on your lap and make biscuits. All in all, he is a good boy!" Bertie is a sweet and affectionate adult black Maine Coon Mix boy with strong American MC features. Stormy weather enhances the beautiful green glow around his mostly gold eyes. The vet estimates him to be about 8 years old. He is very tall and long with a long fluffy tail. He would be considered quite a large build. Poor guy was quite underweight at intake, though he is now just right. His foster mom can attest to Bertie's affectionate lap cat nature. He loves attention and will seek you out for it. He will jump to the highest point nearby for face-to-face interactions. He will even softly stroke your cheek with his paw in the sweetest most adorable way! He loves hugs and kisses on top of his head. He will weave in and out around your legs rubbing all over you. He is a curious boy and likes to be involved in whatever you are doing. Bertie sometimes joins Lucian in a silly game of run, play, and hide under area rugs. That is right, UNDER! It is hilarious! This could also be a trip hazard, so these boys may not be for a home with someone disabled or elderly where tripping is of specific concern. It is also advisable to provide them with safer options that allow them to enjoy this type of play. They need a very quiet, low-activity home with very patient gentle adopter(s) who are willing to work lovingly and consistently with them (see Lucian's bio at the link below). Both cats will hide upon entering a new home and when scared. Bertie is more of a "tree dweller" type, so he should be provided with acceptable high hiding and climbing places. All hiding places should be where you can still reach them when necessary. Bertie & Lucian would also do best as the only two pets in the household. No children nor dogs. There should be nothing noisy or unpredictable. At the same time, Lucian's ideal home should provide ample space and opportunity to run, get his zoomies on, and play to his heart's content. To summarize, HE should be the noisiest most active thing in the household, LOL!  Their foster has worked with them on their food insecurities and to gradually get them up to a healthy weight. Both can be quite picky when it comes to food. It took an extra long time to find foods they would eat consistently and gradually get them to eat an appropriate amount after nearly starving. If they don't like it, they will not eat enough. Potential adopters should be willing to keep them on a high-quality, no-kibble diet such as healthy all-wet food. Any additions or changes to their diet should be very gradual. Seeming to stem from their food insecurities, they tend to act aggressively toward other pets whom they may see as a threat to their resources. They can exhibit territorial behaviors, particularly during meal times. They can act friendly in general with other cats, but then lash out aggressively if they perceive their meal might be in jeopardy. Thus, the recommendation is that they be the only household pets. These boys have been happy with natural litters, showing a strong preference for walnut shell litter. They prefer their litterboxes be kept quite clean. They did eliminate outside the box when they had upset tummies from parasites - a bed became their target of choice. So, if they do relieve themselves elsewhere, that is a good indication a vet check is in order. They may also go right outside the box if they don't like the litter. It has become clear while in foster care that Bertie has a textbook Pica disorder. His "addiction" seems to mostly focus on wool-like textures, such as insulation. This can also translate to the stuffing in cat beds or plush toys, so best to avoid those. When in pursuit of it, he can be destructive and at times act out aggressively. In the absence of wooly items, he may also eat cardboard. It is imperative that he does not have access to such items. Neither of these boys should be anywhere with a drop ceiling. Bertie does not exhibit mentioned negative behaviors in the absence of stuff that is "addictive" to him - his true nature is an ideal, lovable cat! His Foster is happy to discuss further details with potential adopters.  Bertie has the signature Maine Coon double coat so he needs frequent grooming to prevent matting and keep his gorgeous coat in good condition. He has come to love gentle grooming as part of affection and cuddle time. Bertie has received a clean bill of health from the vet. He had a full senior blood panel with good results. Tartar on his teeth helped the vet in estimating his age and he has since had a fresh dental. Bertie is located in Lake Ariel, PA. We would like to keep them within 200 miles of Lake Ariel, PA. However, each application will be looked at on a case-by-case basis. If the adopter does not meet halfway an $85.00 transport fee will be added. Bertie's Adoption Fee is $150.00. Lucian's Adoption Fee is $175.00. There is a $25.00 discount for adopting 2 cats. The adoption fee for both boys would be $300.00. Bertie's Adoption Fee includes the following: neuter, updated FVRCP Vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, Wellness Exam, bloodwork panel, dental, Flea Treatment, Dewormer, and Microchip. Click here to view Lucian's profile. These boys are so worth the small effort they need! They are both so sweet once you break through their barriers and will reward you 10xs over, and then some! They are worth going the extra mile for!   For more information please contact Maine Coon Rescue at: adoption@mainecoonrescue.net.   Date of birth: 09/01/2015 Location: Lake Ariel, PA Available for adoption: Now   To fill out an Adoption Application click here.
