Benny is a two-year-old Poodle and Maltese mix who weighs 21 lbs and is looking for a fresh start. Having lived with the same family since he was a puppy, he is well-adjusted to home life and is used to sleeping soundly on his own dog bed. While Benny is a seasoned companion, his previous home was unclear about his housetraining, so his new owners should be prepared to offer a little patience and guidance as he learns the routine in a new environment. His previous owners report that he is good with other dogs and cats. Knox came in to the shelter in very bad condition on the outside, but on the inside, this love-bug has a heart of gold. Even in the horrible condition of his fur, he had kisses for the staff and wanted to be held. He came in with another female who was also in bad condition. We immediately took him to the groomer and had all the hair stripped off. You can see in the "before" picture how bad he was. He and the female (Indie) seem very bonded and may be related, so we will try to adopt them together if possible. He had been seen wandering through parking lots in Stockton for a week before arriving, so we do not know where he was living before here. New owner should be prepared to work on house manners in case he hasn't had any prior training. The vet estimates he is between 1 and 3, so we settled on 2. Kally is a ~7 year old maltese mix who found her way to the shelter with ear and skin infections and a few broken teeth. She is a little overweight but loveable. The medical team has started treatment for her ear and skin and they are already improving markedly, even just within a few days. A full dental cleaning was performed and 1 tooth was extracted - another tooth has a crown fracture but the pulp cavity isn`t involved and the tooth is not painful - an adopter would just need to keep an eye on this tooth in the future. She may have allergic skin disease underlying her ear and skin issues - this may need ongoing management and vet visits which could involve perscription diets, pills or injections for itch, or further allergy testing, medicated baths or mousse and regular ear cleanings. Kally is a little overweight (10-20% overweight) and needs a diet. She is sweet, small (13 lb!) and ready for a home who can take on her skin care. Dental cleaning and extraction already done, and she is already spayed, chipped, dewormed and vaccinated :)
