Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Meet Milkshake   Milkshake is a petite 2–3 year old Maltipoo weighing just 8.5 pounds who came to DPS via our rescue partners in Southern California after her owners could no longer care for her. She’s a gentle, low-key little dog with a soft presence, a non-shedding coat, and an easy routine, making her a wonderful candidate for almost any dog-loving home.   Daily Routine & Care Milkshake starts her day around 7:30 a.m. with a quick trip outside to take care of business, followed by breakfast. She has made it very clear that kibble is not her thing— she will politely spit out NutriSource kibble—but she happily eats canned dog food and cleans her bowl when that’s on the menu. After breakfast, she enjoys a short walk around the neighborhood.   The rest of her day is spent lounging while her foster works, either relaxing in her crate or hanging out nearby. She receives a few treats throughout the day and is taken outside to potty every 3–4 hours, though she doesn’t need frequent breaks. Dinner is served between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m., and she heads into her crate around 10:30 p.m., where she sleeps quietly and soundly through the night.   Personality Milkshake is naturally sweet and enjoys cuddling and gentle pets. She’s the kind of dog who bonds well and appreciates a calm, reassuring presence. Once comfortable, she enjoys being close and soaking up attention without being demanding. She's not the dog who is going to run right up to you and beg for attention, but she'll do so in her own quiet way, and she's sure to win you over immediately.   Socialization Milkshake lives with an 11-year-old, 18-pound terrier who has a big-dog personality. The two dogs coexist peacefully but don’t interact much, largely due to their very different play styles. She met a cat at our Safehouse and walked up to her politely, sniffed her behind, and then ran back to the humans to ask for more pets :).   Energy Level & Play Style Milkshake is a true lounger and couch potato. She is not particularly energetic and does not show much interest in toys, fetch, or active play. She is also not very treat motivated. What she truly enjoys is calm companionship and being doted on. She’s happiest when relaxing and receiving affection.   On the Leash She can be a bit hesitant when first heading out on a walk and may stop and sit at the beginning, but with patience she gets going and walks nicely. She doesn’t pay much attention to other dogs passing by and keeps her focus on the walk itself.   Housebreaking & Manners Milkshake is fully housebroken and has not had issues with accidents in the home. She does not use a doggie door but does very well with a consistent potty schedule. She has not displayed any destructive behaviors— no chewing, digging, or excessive barking.     Why Milkshake Milkshake is sweet, gentle, and incredibly easy to care for. She asks for very little and gives quiet companionship in return. If you’re looking for a calm, loving dog who will happily share your space and your couch, Milkshake could be the perfect addition to your home.January 22, 2026, 7:59 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Meet Valentine   Valentine is a 2 year old, 10-pound Maltese mix who came to DPS from a shelter with her three nursing puppies. Her babies are now eight weeks old and ready for adoption, and Valentine herself is also looking for a loving home where she can finally be the center of attention. She has clearly been a devoted mama, and now it’s her turn to be cared for.   Household Routine & Habits Valentine is fully housebroken and has never had an accident in her foster home. She eats twice a day, enjoying canned food around 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. She is out and about with the other dogs throughout the day, comfortably sharing space and routines. If her foster is working in the office, Valentine happily settles nearby, content just to be close.   At night, she sleeps in the foster’s office outside of the whelping box. Despite having beds offered on the floor, Valentine has made it very clear that her favorite sleeping spot is a laundry basket filled with blankets. It’s cozy, secure, and apparently just right for her.   Personality & Temperament Valentine absolutely loves people of all ages. She is affectionate, social, and genuinely enjoys human companionship. She is a curious little dog who likes to keep tabs on her surroundings and takes her “neighborhood watch” role seriously, often positioning herself at the front window to observe the world go by.   She can be vocal at times, particularly when something interesting catches her attention, but she is not a dog who barks without reason. When left alone in the office, she stays quiet unless she can see other dogs through the window or notices activity outside, such as the pool maintenance crew in the yard.   Dogs, Cats & Social Life Valentine wants to play with all dogs and is now fully integrated into her foster home’s pack, which includes two large Labrador Retrievers and two small dogs. She was quite barky at first and needed some time to relax and feel comfortable, but with patience and routine, she settled in beautifully. Based on her progress, she would likely do well in a home with other dogs.   She does show some food guarding behaviors when other dogs approach her bowl, so this is an important consideration for adopters with resident dogs. Feeding separately is recommended to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable.   Valentine is very interested in cats and gets excited when she sees them. She barks and seems eager to engage, but she does not lunge or attempt to attack. Her behavior appears playful rather than aggressive, and she has already started to mellow with the cats in her foster home, who are calm and unbothered by dogs.   Why Valentine Is Special Valentine has done an incredible job raising her puppies and adjusting to a busy household. She is loving, loyal, housebroken, and deeply people-oriented. With a little structure around mealtimes and continued gentle guidance, she will make a wonderful companion. Whether she’s curled up nearby while you work, watching the neighborhood from the window, or snuggled into her beloved laundry basket, Valentine brings warmth and heart to everything she does.January 22, 2026, 5:23 pm

Cupid, Sweetheart, and Lovebug are 8 week old Maltese mixes who came to DPS with their devoted mama after being rescued from a shelter. They’ve been lovingly raised in a foster home and are growing into confident, well-socialized little puppies with distinct personalities and excellent routines. Mama is 10 lbs and the babies each weigh ~3 lbs right now, so they'll likely all remain petite.   Daily Routine & Care The puppies start their day around 8:00 a.m. with a trip outside, followed by breakfast of Blue Buffalo puppy wet food served outdoors. After eating, they play together in their pen for about an hour before coming inside to relax in their whelping box with toys, where they spend most of the morning.   Around 1:00 p.m., they head back outside for more playtime and enjoy NutriSource puppy kibble. They stay outdoors until about 3:00 p.m., after which they return to their whelping box while their foster is at work. Mama stays in the same room with them, keeping a calm and watchful eye. She does not need to be crated and typically settles in quietly when the house is calm. A camera in the room confirms that everyone is relaxed and comfortable while their foster is away.   The puppies use cloth, washable pee pads in their whelping box area and are already developing good habits. When they are given supervised free time in the house with the other dogs, their foster makes sure they’ve had plenty of outdoor time first to set them up for success.   In the evening around 5:30 p.m., they enjoy another plate of wet food. At about 9:15 p.m., they all go outside again, followed by a final cleanup of the whelping box before bedtime at 11:00 p.m. Impressively, these puppies are quiet through the night.   Socialization & Environment Cupid, Sweetheart, and Lovebug have been exposed to cats, large dogs, and other small dogs, giving them a wonderful foundation for life in a variety of homes. One of their favorite playmates is Mr. Figs, a resident dog and foster fail, especially when mama has decided she’s done entertaining them.   Meet the Pups   Cupid (male): True to his gentle name, Cupid is a sensitive little fellow with a sweet soul. He can be a bit nervous at first and appreciates a slower pace and reassurance - and plenty of love. With patience and encouragement, he continues to gain confidence each day.   Sweetheart (female): Sweetheart is the most outgoing of the group. She happily follows the big dogs and is quick to explore new spaces on her own. She’s curious, brave, and always ready to see what’s happening next.   Lovebug (female): Lovebug is confident and comfortable in her surroundings without being shy. She enjoys exploring and engaging with the world around her, striking a lovely balance between curiosity and calm.   Why You’ll Fall in Love These Valentine puppies have been raised with structure, consistency, and lots of positive exposure. They are accustomed to a household environment, familiar with other animals, and already used to routines that will help them transition smoothly into their forever homes. Whether you’re drawn to Cupid’s sweet sensitivity, Sweetheart’s bold confidence, or Lovebug’s easygoing curiosity, one of these little Valentines is ready to be your perfect match.January 22, 2026, 5:45 pm
