Story
This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)   To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   PLEASE READ:     •    If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this.     •    All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date.     •    Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments.   Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.   Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.   For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.   ##2636769##

Story
OB 5-12-2019 Elias is a retired puppy mill worker, he was stuck in a cage for 5 years of his life from the time he was born. When he came he was so thin, his teeth were totally rotten and he couldn't eat. Well that was his old life, not his new life! Elias has been neutered, all teeth had to be removed, he was heartworm negative and is now on ProHeart6, up to date on all shots and has become a little on the porky side! Elias would love to have his own home now, something he never had hopes of is a reality for him now. Elias is crate trained, gets along with other little dogs, would love to be loved by someone who knew how special he is. Elias's adoption fee is 500.00, this transport fee is 165.00. Our transport is HEARTS LLC, the only one we use for our kids! The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Name: Xuegao Gender: Male Date of Birth: August 16, 2019 Breed: Maltese Neutered: No Xuegao is an adult Maltese who has been with me since he was young. He is very bonded to his owner and does best in familiar, calm environments. With people he knows well, he can be affectionate and attached. Due to my current situation involving frequent travel between locations, unstable work circumstances, and financial hardship, I am no longer able to provide the consistent environment or ongoing care (including boarding and management costs) that he needs. Because of this, I am seeking a stable and experienced home that would be a better long-term fit for him. Xuegao can be reactive and anxious around strangers or in unfamiliar environments. When stressed or startled, he may bark excessively and show defensive behavior. For this reason, he would be best suited for: • An experienced dog owner • A quiet, stable household • No young children • Someone patient and willing to give him

Story
Ralph is looking for a family that wants a dog with personality! This little guy is 11 years old and 10 pounds of adorable. Ralph was found as a stray and brought to the Tri-Town Animal Shelter in North Providence last October. When his stray hold was up, we picked him up and brought him to VPR. At first, Ralph was pretty shy, but in no time at all, we saw his silly personality emerge. He gets along well with most dogs, but we've seen him be hesitant of (and even combative with) unneutered male dogs. Otherwise, he is content to keep to himself and join in on group activities, like barking at us to hurry up with dinner. He's not always thrilled about being picked up and will growl if he doesn't want to be. Because of this, we recommend using a blanket if he needs to be picked up until the family understands Ralph's behavior and body language. And bonus: Ralph will try to eat his own poop, so it should be picked up immediately. Medically, Ralph needed quite a bit of care. He has a grade 3 heart murmur but does not currently require any heart medication. He should have another echo 6 months after his last, to recheck his heart health and assess if medication is needed. He also tested positive for Lyme and underwent a course of antibiotics. Most recently, Ralph had surgery to repair 2 perineal hernias, which caused him a lot of discomfort. He was also neutered during the procedure. He is recovering well, but he will have soft, frequent stools until he's fully healed. His adopter will need to understand this and be open to more frequent outings or clean-ups. Ralph's teeth aren't in too bad shape, but he will need a dental in the future. VPR will cover the cost at the adopter's vet. Ralph is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and recently had full blood work and a urinalysis. He's a funny little pup who marches to the beat of his own drum. If cute, silly, and a little high-maintenance sound like a match for you, please submit an application at: https://www.vintagepetrescue.org/adopt
