Story
Sweet P is exactly what her name promises… a gentle, quiet little soul who just needs a bit of time to feel safe—and when she does, her sweetness will shine.Sweet Pea’s journey has been a long one, but every step has brought her closer to the dog she was always meant to be. Rescued from a hoarding situation in Virginia Beach, this gentle girl spent the last four years in a dedicated foster home learning how to trust, how to feel safe, and simply how to be a dog. And today? Mission accomplished.Sweet Pea may never be the kind of dog who climbs into your lap demanding cuddles, but she has her own quiet, beautiful way of loving. She enjoys being near her people, happily sharing space and companionship while observing the world around her. Human touch can still make her nervous at times, so she needs someone who understands that trust is something earned gently and patiently. Every little step forward with Sweet Pea feels incredibly rewarding. What truly brings out her confidence is other dogs. She absolutely needs a calm, confident canine companion in her forever home — another dog helps her feel secure and shows her that the world is okay. She takes her cues from her dog friends and thrives when she has them by her side.Sweet Pea loves her daily walks and is wonderful on leash. Exploring the neighborhood gives her joy and helps build her confidence even more. She is crate trained and feels safest in a wire crate where she can see both her humans and her dog companions nearby. She is also potty trained, though occasional accidents can happen if she becomes startled or nervous. A steady routine and patient guidance will help her continue to succeed. While car rides are still unfamiliar territory, Sweet Pea continues to surprise everyone with how much she grows and learns, so her future is full of possibility. And with that adorable face and a little brushing here and there, she’s truly a tiny beauty.Sweet Pea would do best in a calm, quiet home without young children — a home filled with patience, stability, and kindness. She asks for very little: a safe place, understanding humans, and a confident dog friend to help guide her. In return, you’ll get the privilege of watching a once-frightened soul continue to blossom. And who knows? Maybe someday Sweet Pea will decide snuggles are nice after all. But if she does, it will be on her terms — and that will make it all the more special.Name: Sweet PBreed: Maltese/Bichon? Story
Please contact Karen (Karenslavin24@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Adoption Donation   $399 Located: RI  Age: approx   7 yrs  old Weight:  12  lbs.    Bailey a really sweet boy, but he's quirky and can have his grouchy moments! He doesn't like to be picked up, unless he fully trusts you. And he'll give a warning growl if you're petting him the wrong way. But he'll let you know when he wants to be pet by pawing at you. Since he's been with me he hasn't shown any resource guarding. He just wants to be loved and will cuddle in your lap on his own terms. He sleeps through the night and enjoys his daytime naps. He loves being outside in the yard and gets so excited to go for walks, even though he doesn't want to put his harness on. He plays well with other small dogs but will bark at bigger ones. For the most part he doesn't mind cats, just barks at them. He's not a fan of car rides, so he'll whine and sometimes let out a howl. Overall, he's an easy dog, and will make a great companion for the right person that has experience with small dogs that have a bit of an attitude/ Bailey would do best in an adult-only home with someone who is willing to go at his pace and continue helping him build confidence and trust. He isn’t the kind of dog who will fit into just any household but for the right person, Bailey has the potential to be an incredibly devoted companion. We know Bailey’s perfect match is out there.  If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org  and email my foster parent for more information:  Karenslavin24@gmail.com Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.   Our adoption application can be found here: https://fohari.org/application/  Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt.  From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit.  If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Our extensive approval process is intended to ensure the best fit between our animals and adopters. Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) reserves the right to deny any adoption application with or without disclosure of cause. Your adoption fee helps to cover the cost of all age appropriate vetting and transportation. FOHARI.ORG makes no explicit or implicit guarantees in reference to the health, temperament and/or the breed of the animal. The animal is adopted ‘as is’, and the adopter assumes all responsibility for treatment of any and all existing conditions or any other conditions of physical or temperament changes that may occur. Story
Ekko & Mimi's Story Ekko (black and tan, male, 15 lbs) and Mimi (tan & white, female, 11 lbs) are an adorable bonded pair looking for a home where they can stay together forever! These sweet pups are house trained, crate trained, and have an easygoing, medium energy level that makes them a great fit for many different homes. They absolutely love people and enjoy playing with kids of all ages. Friendly and social, they are not fearful or reactive and have wonderfully happy personalities. Their favorite pastime is romping around the backyard together and playing with their small stuffed toys before settling in for some relaxation time. Ekko and Mimi are easy to walk on leash and could do well in an apartment or home environment as long as they get their daily exercise and playtime. They’re relatively quiet overall, though they may bark a little when they see activity outside the fence — but once outside, they are calm and content explorers. Like many playful dogs, they do enjoy chasing cats, so a cat-free home would be best for this duo. If you’re looking for two loving companions who already adore each other and are ready to bring double the joy into your life, Ekko and Mimi may be the perfect match! Ekko and Mimi are both about 8-10 yrs old. They are currently being fostered in Houston, TX and are available locally or out of state to the Northeast. If adopted out of state, they would come to their new home via professional transport. Email info@joyrides.org to request an application!

Story
Rory is a sweet and peppy 17-pound Havanese/Maltese mix. He's 11, but he's a little dog and still has many years of fun in him! Rory came to Save a Dog with MayBelle, surrendered by their adoring owner when she developed a terminal illness. He is a friendly boy who loves belly rubs. His mom called him her "furry four-legged water bottle" because he is so snuggly. He was raised with holistic care and supplements so should live a long and healthy life. Rory knows basic commands like sit, stay, and leave it. He is housetrained and crate trained. Won't you give him a second chance at a loving home? Please apply at https://www.saveadog.org/applytoadopt.asp, and someone will get right back to you.
