Meet Sweet Serenity! You’d be hard-pressed to find a dog sweeter than Serenity. She truly lives up to her name with her gentle and loving nature. It’s heartbreaking to think that anyone could have neglected such a precious soul. Serenity is a petite 4-year-old, weighing just 11 lbs. She was found wandering as a stray north of Nashville, but even after her profile was shared on every lost-and-found pet site, no one stepped forward for her. One possible reason is an old injury to her right front leg—a break above the joint between her foot and leg that never healed quite right. While her foot now lacks proper support for walking, the injury isn’t painful and doesn’t seem to slow her down. Serenity often shifts her weight to her other legs and has become an expert at the charming Maltese trick of dancing on her hind legs. Serenity is guaranteed to make you smile—she’s a true trooper with a resilient spirit. She gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes and is also friendly with cats. We believe she is around 2 years old, weighs about 9 pounds and is a Shih Tzu/Maltese mix. She came to us from a hoarding situation and is learning how to be pampered. Her first haircut was quite the transformation. Blossom is a bit skittish and loves having another dog around. If she cannot find her foster sister, she gets a bit anxious. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate, snuggled up with her foster sister. A home with another dog is strongly preferred. She is starting to discover that people and toys are fun. She has been described as a terrier mix or even a rainbow Yorkie mix with her black and white coloring. She even has a white powder puff at the end of her tail. Right now, she is a bit skittish with people, however, she likes other small dogs. So much so, that she sneaks into her foster brother's bed with him. Her foster brother is teaching her how to walk on a leash as she follows him out to the yard. With his help, she is now mostly potty trained. She eats well twice a day, is starting to play with toys and likes her quiet naps. She needs some time to come out of her shell. She will be spayed on September 28 -- then will be ready for her forever home. Lilah enjoys playing with squeaky toys and her foster brother. Another dog in the home may make her happy! He sleeps all night, hangs with the other resident dogs, eats well, and is house trained! He is the Total Package! Apply now to adopt this sweet senior gentleman. Meet Junior! Junior is a sweet, calm, senior gentleman. He is a Maltese type mix. He weighs about 12 pounds and is approximately 10 years old. (More photos to follow once he is settled) Junior was a stray at the shelter. He was being held for stray hold, then rescue placement due to his severe dental disease! He will most likely need a full mouth extraction. Junior is currently decompressing at his foster home in Newport News. He will have his dental, neuter and removal of a nodule on his tail on or before June 15th. For now he is resting, eating soft food and making new friends with his foster siblings. Contact her foster family if you are interested in making her dreams come true! Meet Sally! She is a sweet, little 7 year old, 9 pound Maltese. She comes to us from a puppy mill in Pennsylvania. She is very new in rescue but is warming up and enjoying life as a pet not property. Her tail wags all the time and she is very interested in her new surroundings. She will need a calm, patient home to allow her to adjust to pet life. A fenced yard is not required but will be an asset to her. She has never walked on leash. She has been a money maker for 7 years. She deserves a slow approach from a family who will not rush her and give her an opportunity to learn and grow. She is very sweet and will definitely make a wonderful pet in time. She just needs time. Sally is temporarily staying in Norfolk with a foster near the Snip Squad, our new and fabulous low cost clinic. This clinic allows us to take in dogs from puppy mills who have had no care and typically need many teeth extracted. Without their help, the rescue could not afford to help dogs like Sally. While the Snip Squad does give a wonderful discount her vetting to get to Virginia plus the cost of the dental and spay will total more than $1500. Finn is 5 year old maltese mix that is searching for his forever family. Finn would do best with someone who is home more often than they are not and committed to providing structure to his day to day. Finn is recommended as no shared walls in his future home as he can be very vocal when left alone. Due to some of Finns history and behavior we are recommending an adult only home or children 16 and up. We are asking at this time Finn be the only canine in the home. It will be important for Finn`s future family to follow up with their veterinarian to consistently evaluate the efficacy of his long term behavioral medications. While in foster Finn enjoyed a calm quieter home where he was the center of attention! His fosters stated he is active and enjoys walks and playing in the yard.
