Story
Piper is a one-year-old gal who is equal parts cuddly companion and playful best friend. She has a gentle, easygoing nature and a soft spot for being close to her people. Whether she’s curled up next to you on the couch or quietly following you from room to room, Piper just wants to be near her humans and soak up all the love she can get. This little lady is affectionate, friendly with strangers, and has a laidback personality that makes her easy to enjoy. She has a medium energy level, so she’s happy to play with other dogs or enjoy a good snuggle session after some fun. She gets along well with her foster's dogs. Piper is making progress with both crate and house training and will continue to thrive with a consistent routine and gentle guidance in her new home. She can be a little vocal at first when left alone, but she settles in with time and is already learning how to relax and feel secure on her own. She rides well in the car and is eager to please, already recognizing her name and showing all the signs of a smart, loving companion. At the end of the day, Piper is a sweet, snuggly girl who just wants to be your “little princess” and your constant companion. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving dog to share your days (and your couch), Piper might be your perfect match At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2687792##

Good with dogs,
Story
Current Location: Chester, VA Hi, I’m Ann! I’m an 8 pound Maltese with a soft heart and a quiet spirit. I’m around 6 years old, so I’m past all that puppy chaos and just looking for a calm, cozy place to call home. I can be pretty shy when it comes to people. New things can feel a little scary for me, so I’ll need someone patient who will give me time and space while I learn that I’m safe. Other dogs make me feel so much better and help me understand how to be brave. If you have a friendly, confident pup at home, I would love that! I feel happiest when I have a doggy friend by my side. I also have a special little gummy smile because I don’t have any teeth left. It just means I need soft food, which I eat like a champ. I think it makes me extra cute. I might not be the kind of girl who jumps into your lap on day one, but if you give me time, I will show you just how special I am. Watching me grow more confident and comfortable will be the best feeling. I’m looking for my forever family! Is that with you? If so please click “apply for adoption” or submit an application through the Adopt tab. Let’s get our family started!

Story
NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS! Meet Nilla! This sweet Maltese girl has been a loved and well-cared-for family dog. Her owner made the difficult decision to rehome her after a significant change in life circumstances. Nilla’s owner is a single mom and a federal employee who had a flexible schedule when she first adopted her. With recent changes requiring a daily commute downtown, her workday has increased by nearly three hours. By the time she gets home, she’s focused on her kids and understandably exhausted, and she feels Nilla wasn’t getting the time and engagement she deserves. She’s also traveling more frequently, which has meant longer boarding stays, very different from the life Nilla was used to. Nilla is still a young, active girl who thrives on companionship and interaction. She loves her walks, likes meeting other dogs, and enjoys being part of her humans’ daily life. She is happiest curled up right next to you. She’s incredibly affectionate and would always choose to nap curled up with you on the couch or sit on your lap while you work.  She’s very friendly with people and has great dog social skills. She does well at doggy daycare and has transitioned easily into her current foster home, where she lives with three other dogs. She enjoys playtime but is respectful of dogs who prefer their space. Nilla is housetrained, crate-trained, and knows basic commands like “sit” and “come”—unless she has one of her beloved mini tennis balls, in which case she might decide to keep it to herself! She loves squeaky balls, enjoys playing fetch (even indoors), and has a funny habit of hiding her toys in shoes…Don’t worry, she doesn’t chew them! This pretty, fluffy girl is a very happy pup with a little sass. She loves running in the yard (especially on a long leash) and even enjoys the snow. Watching her zoom around is pure joy. She also has an adorable “singing” howl that will make you smile. Overall, Nilla would thrive in a home with an owner who is looking for a bestie. A work-from-home or more flexible schedule would be ideal for this loving, social girl. Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE:  Maltese GENDER: Female  APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 14 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  3.5 years old COAT TYPE: Soft, lowshed coat that needs regular grooming ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION:  Vienna, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Brie came from North Carolina with her two puppies. Sadly, all three dogs were part of a 40+ dog hoarding case where they were severely neglected. By the time help came, Brie had lost one of her puppies leaving her with only two to raise. Now that the puppies are weaned, Brie is ready for her own story. A story that allows her to be the center of attention and doted on by her new human. She is a diva, so she very much enjoys the attention. She will co-exist with the other dogs as long as the new family understands how to properly introduce her. She is nervous around larger dogs but doesn't make a fuss. She has not been tested with cats, but if they ignore her, she will ignore them. Brie is 6-7 pounds fully grown. We believe she is Maltese/yorkie mix of some kind. She will make a wonderful pocket-sized companion if you're looking for something to keep you company. To adopt Brie, please submit an application https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/66b189c45d6f9afa2c07afb8/6986836228f7001030074db6
