Story
Interested in becoming a forever home for Taz Danforth? For immediate consideration, please fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we DO NOT go any further without an application. If there are multiple dogs that you are interested in, please fill out an application for each dog. This does not include bonded pairs, one application will be fine. We have different adoption coordinators working with different dogs, and your application may be missed if you only apply once. Find more adoptable pets, news and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws . We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them and you. Please do not submit an application if you are not serious about adopting Taz Danforth. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Taz Danforth the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. Our normal adoption fee is $525. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.    PLEASE NOTE: GPMR communicates primarily by email.  If you have any questions regarding one of our Mastiffs, please read their bio and if you still have questions - drop us an email at GPMastiffRescue@gmail.com.  If you have questions about our adoption procedures, please go to our page called 'Adoption Info.'  We answer email inquiries daily.    GPMR does not have a shelter. All of our dogs are kept in loving foster homes. We must have a completed adoption application on file before meeting any of our mastiffs.    GPMR adopts to the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and parts of Colorado.  !!!Any mastiffs being adopted out of the state of Oklahoma require a health certificate to be paid for by the adopter!!!       Meet Shaw! This boy came into rescue when his owner was no longer able to take care of him. Shaw lived with kids and other dogs in this home and was reported to do well with them, but we've not had him around any kids while under our care. We would recommend him for an adult only home.  Shaw is a lovable and affectionate English Mastiff with a heart as big as his paws! He still has some playful puppy energy but is already showing the gentle, calm demeanor that makes Mastiffs such beloved companions. He loves belly rubs, lounging around the house, and being near his humans. After 2 days of separated introduction to his foster brother (another Mastiff), Shaw integrated very nicely. Respectful and cautious at first, he slowly and steadily opened up to playing and chasing with his foster brother. With feeding spots separated, he quickly learned where his spot was and respected where it was not. Shaw takes a minute or two to warm up to new people. But given a little space and taking things slow, his big tail will slowly start to wag! Once you’re “in” with him, you are “IN!” The leaning and loving is non-stop! He is leash-trained and house-trained and rides well in the car. He knows basic commands such as “Shake,” “Speak” and is working on “Sit’ and “Wait”. He prefers a relaxed environment but enjoys occasional playtime (loves to play fetch!). He would love a home with a yard with space to stretch out. As with most Mastiffs, Shaw is a sensitive guy. So it only takes a soft but stern tone to discipline him and he gets the message! Shaw would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can roam safely or with an owner who enjoys leisurely walks. He does well with a laid-back lifestyle but still needs regular exercise and socialization. Due to his size, he may not be best suited for very small children he loves to play and wrestle and is still learning his size! Shaw is well behaved at his foster home but does not appear to have been socialized much outside of his home life. His vet visit was pretty stressful and the veterinarian recommends that he take calming medications prior to any future visits as he is difficult to handle there. He also had a terrible ear infection so that never helps as they can be pretty sore. It could also be a fear based reaction as he was also trying to hide behind the chairs! Unfortunately we see this a lot where people buy puppies and then don't socialize them and this is what happens. A 130 lb chicken who has learned that if he growls at the vet, they will leave him alone. Shaw definitely will need some training, medications before visits, an understanding Veterinarian and positive experiences at the vet clinic to help him overcome that! He likely would not be able to stay at a boarding facility either. He needs a family who either doesn't travel or can have someone stay at his home to take care of him. Shaw is being fostered in Burleson, TXVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!March 24, 2025, 9:09 pm

This boy was surrendered by his owner when they were moving and could not take him. He was born in April of 2022 and weighs about 160 lbs. He is current on his vet care and appears to be a healthy boy! The stress of the rehoming from him owner to us was difficult for him. His previous owner did not socialize Winston at all, and so this change was hard on him. His foster Dad had to figure out his needs/wants and adjust. He growled a little the first couple of days. Now that he has become comfortable, there are no issues. Has become a very sweet boy. He needs to be given space and going slow with him will be extremely important. This decompression time is going to be crucial when he gets adopted. Given time he warms up to you very well. Slow proper introduction is needed as quick movements toward him are scary and he can be reactive when scared. He needs a quiet, adult only, rescue-Mastiff experienced home without a lot of visitors coming and going. We haven’t fully evaluated him yet with other dogs and cats. He accidentally came nose to nose with a cat on a walk. There was no reaction, just curiosity. When seeing other dogs, he wants to meet them but doesn’t pull or bark. He has met a couple of dogs through a fence and just seems really curious. If he gets excited he can be diverted easily as he accepts corrections well. We will be working with a trainer on dog introductions soon. Unfortunately, he had minimal training when he came to us. He is having to learn to walk on a leash and is doing well. He will not get far from you when off leash. He will keep coming back to you on his own to make sure you are ok. Every day he is improving. Inside he is a counter surfer and we are working on this. He is housebroken and has never had an accident and does very well with free roam. He is crate-trained and his foster Dad has taught him sit, down, recall, leave it and wait. He can be guardy of his food and will need a separate quiet space for him when eating. He is a dog that needs a job. He loves playing puzzle games, tug with rope and picking a toy out of his toybox. He also loves to slobber over something that has my scent on it and keep it near such as an old shoe or shirt. He doesn’t chew it, just keeps it by hisside. When not napping he does need a purpose. He is curious, smart and silly. So keeping the brain busy is important to a successful adoption. At night he guards the house. He will alert to strangers outside the home and definitely has the guard dog mentality. He is protective of his human. He does not like the sound of lawn mowers and will bark. He doesn’t appear to have any other noise fears. During the fireworks on New Years Eve he had no reaction. We went outside briefly during the sounds and he didn’t appear to even be aware of the sounds. Winston loves to lay beside the sofa or head in your lap and asks for belly rubs. He does love car rides and loves them even more if he gets a pup cup! He has become a wonderful silly dog who loves to play with you as much as possible. He really shines outdoors, loves walks, and loves to play with his favorite toy (which happens to be a food bowl that came with him!). We have not witnessed any stranger danger outside the home. He is possessive/protective inside his home, so he will need to meet people outside the home before coming in.We believe Winston has a condition called 'Sleep Startle' and have scheduled him to see a Behaviorist to confirm. Read more here:  https://hectorsgreyhoundrescue.org/greyhounds-as-pets/sleep-startle-and-aggression/ Winston’s will need to agree to hire a trainer to help work him through his adjustment period.Winston is being fostered in Abilene, TX.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!April 1, 2025, 9:08 pm
