This boy found himself homeless in a rural area and was rescued by good samaritans. His family had moved away and left him at the house, and some of the neighbors were threatening to shoot Polar. Thankfully he made some friends who made sure Polar found his way to GPMR. Polar looks like a Mastiff/Pyrenees mix. He has the head of a Mastiff with a white haircoat. Whatever he is, he is wonderful! He was very underweight when we got him and tested positive for a tick illness. The Vet discovered his spleen looked large so we had an ultrasound done and everything looked normal so they think he just has a larger spleen than the average dog. He was also limping on a back leg and was diganosed with a torn CCL in his knee. He is having surgery to repair that and when he's recovered, he'll be ready for adoption. Polar is one of those rare dogs where he is good with everything and everyone. He does great with kids of all ages as well as dogs and cats. We really haven't seen anyone that Polar doesn't like! He does have mild storm anxiety but nothing major, he just likes to go to his person or hide somewhere. The one thing that Polar's family will need to be aware of is that he sheds a lot, much more than a Mastiff does. So he requires frequent brushing to get that hair off and someone who doesn't mind vaccuming daily. He also tries to run out any open doors, we are working on this but something that his family needs to be careful about especially if there are young kids in the home. He doesn't always come when called and was using to roaming a bit prior to coming to us. Polar is almost ready for adoption, consider submitting an application today! Polar is being fostered in Guthrie, OK.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!September 19, 2023, 3:18 pm

This sweet girl was wandering as a stray and found herself in a shelter in Louisiana. When her time was up, some great volunteers for the shelter contacted us and made transport arrangements to get her to GPMR. Teamwork makes the dream work! We're guessing Mattie at about 3 years old. She has a smaller frame for a Mastiff. She's definitely had puppies previously but is now spayed so no more of that for her! Mattie has been good with dogs of varying sizes but like many momma dogs, she can be bossy sometimes so needs to be with dogs who won't get offended by this. She's been around kids over the age of 5 and has done well with them. Mattie is fostered with cats as well.Mattie does suffer from separation anxiety and so would do best in a home where her family isn't gone all day at work. We've started her on medications and she is doing so much better. Her foster mom is retired and home a lot which Mattie enjoys. She's able to be left alone for a couple of hours at a time without getting into anything. With the notable exception that is will steal food off the counters. We can't blame her though, she was so very thin and we're working on putting some much needed weight on her.Like every dog we get from Louisiana, Mattie tested positive for heartworms and is being treated. Once that is completed she will be ready for adoption! Mattie is your typical loving Mastiff and has never met a stranger! She'd love a family to call her own - is that home yours? This sweet boy found GPMR when his owners moved and weren't able to bring Bear with them and so he was left outside in a pen. A neighbor was trying to take care of Bear and find him a home. Unfortunately he was in pretty rough shape when he arrived, only weighing about 97 lbs. He had no muscle left either which is an indication of starvation. Thankfully he's bouncing back quickly and is already up to 122 lbs at his last vet check and still has at least another 10 lbs to go.  Bear is somewhere between 3 to 5 years old. He is a very affectionate boy! He is fostered with another male Mastiff and doing great. He’s done really well around other dogs and he has no issues with the cat in his foster home. He is great at alerting when people come to the house! He does bark at new people coming into the home and once he sniffs and knows they are OK, he doesn't bark anymore. So something to consider if you have a lot of visitors. He is learning to walk on a leash but still pulls a lot. He knows his puppy drills and will do anything for a treat! When we got Bear he had some scabs on his body and the vet was not sure if these are from fleas or allergies. We started him on medications and these are all healed up now and he has not had to stay on meds. Thankfully he tested negative for heartworms! Bear didn't have much strength in his back end when he arrived to us, but this has improved a lot. We had X-rays taken to be sure and the Vet said everything looked normal. They think he was just suffering from neglect when we first got him, and doesn't have anything wrong with his hips. As a precaution we started him on joint supplements.Bear is being fostered in Fort Smith, ARVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!September 19, 2023, 3:18 pm

Story
Cuddles Arabella here, you can call me Bella for short. I am so ready to find my forever home!! I love my rescue team, but I have been here forever. Constantly seeing other dogs come and go, but I always stay. Everyone keeps saying I'm not a Boxer, but I think I am. I have very soft fur and love to be cuddled for a short time, especially when I first see you. I get so excited by the attention, I just want to put your hand in my mouth. My trainer keeps telling me I can't though, cause other will think I'm trying to bite. It's just my way of saying I love you and want you to stay. I have been through prison training and did really great, even got put in a home. My old family said I was perfect. However, 2 new dogs came in and I did not like that at all!! I am alpha. So back to the rescue. It really broke my heart, so I started thinking what's the point. Over time I became really hardheaded. Now, if I know I can get away with not doing something, I won't do it. I am that smart lol. However, if I know you will wait on me until I do it, I will. I am not good with dogs or cats, but I do like kids. My perfect family would be one that wants to take me everywhere, and let me just chill at their feet. I am an expert on a leash and know all my commands. I am not the dog that wants to be in your lap 24/7, but maybe just sitting next to you. I love stuffed animals and squeaky toys. Really love tug-a-war, but not with those hard ropes. If you are looking for an independent and loyal girl, don't look any further!!! Give me a chance, I know I am better than all the other dogs here!
