Harlee is a superstar fawn mastiff girl who is super sweet. She weighs in at roughly 135 lbs of laid back, but perky, personality plus! Harlee is a social butterfly who greets men and women with tail wags and pleas for pets.  Likes:  Harlee is a morning girl who will greet you with butt wiggles that will make you laugh.  She loves to snuggle on the couch and watch TV with you but is also up for a walk in the neighborhood to investigate her surroundings. Dislikes: Other than small dogs, Harlee doesn’t seem to dislike much of anything, so far. She is definitely not a fan of small dogs but otherwise doesn’t seem to be phased by much.    Personality:   Harlee is polite – she waits patiently in her crate while dinner is being prepped and walks well on leash.  She’s also a talker – she’ll have a whole conversation with you if you’re having fun.  Did we mention she snores?  Like, REALLY snores? Temperament:  She is SUPER sweet and pretty laid back. She’s curious and engages with her people. Energy level:  Moderate energy - Harlee likes to walk but she also loves to sit under the desk while you work or laze about in the sun on nice days.  Favorite activities:  Chilling in the sun, exploring her surroundings, snoring, walking, getting pets, and more to be found… Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?:   Harlee prefers the company of large or x-large dogs who share their toys.  She appreciates dogs that are calmer in nature - pups who are exuberant or overly excited seem to irritate her or put her on edge.  No cats or small dogs for this girl.  She also prefers to be in a home without small children.  Teenagers would be fine. Not good with:  Small children, cats, and small dogs. Housetrained:  Yes!  That makes life easier, right? Crate trained:  Yes!  She’s also crate trained!  But she doesn’t necessarily need it.  She does great when her people are away – either in or out of the crate. Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)?  We’ve been told that Harlee likes to wander, so a fence is preferred unless she won’t be off leash Walks well on a leash?  Harlee walks SO nicely on a leash.  If you’re looking for a walking buddy, she’s your girl. Challenges:  Harlee wants what Harlee wants and she’s sure that she should have it. Just be patient with her and be firm, and she’ll eventually move on to her next interesting adventure.  She’s a bit possessive of her person, so she needs some work on not hogging the path to that person. Any Medical issues?  Harlee has arthritis and is being treated for a low thyroid and cushings disease.  *Her foster is happy to answer any questions you may have about her care.* Harlee also made a New Year's resolution to shed a few pounds, so she’s on a low-calorie, high quality kibble diet.  :)   What would be the best kind of home?  Harlee Quinn lives up to her namesake....she's a fun, flirty girl who is a delight to foster!! She's in foster care due to a military relocation, through no fault of her own. She has adjusted amazingly well to many changes in her life and truly deserves a stable family to call her own again.  She would love a home with or without another dog sibling (although she prefers calmer dogs) and without small children.  She will make her new family incredibly happy with her sweet, loving demeanor.  Any adopter would be lucky to have her! Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include, but are not limited to: pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fill out an Adoption Application BEN IS LOCATED IN LITITZ, PABen is a 125 lb South African Boerboel.  He is 6 years old, neutered, and ready for a new home!Likes: Ben loves attention and love.  He adores affection and being with his people as much as possible. Oh, and treats.  He likes treats!Dislikes: Ben isn't a fan of other dogs.  He's ok with certain dogs, but is really a monogomous fella who prefers an exclusive relationship with his humans. He's also not a fan of those that jab needles in him and judge him by his weight.  He does need to be sedated when he visits those types of people at the vets office - it helps him relax around them a bit.Personality: Ben is very loving, gentle, and sweet.  He's very calm the majority of the time and is quite the velcro dog.  He's the definition of a 'big baby.'Temperament: He's super smart and eager to please but, true to his breed, does have a stubborn side.Energy Level: Ben is generally very calm.  He can be playful but doesn't need a ton of exercise.  He'd lay in bed all day or romp in the yard and be perfectly happy.Favorite activities: 'Stalking' his person, being outside, rolling in the grass, and receiving attention and affection.Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)? Cats unknown. Kids, yes! Dogs, nope! Ben would like to be the K9 King of his castle. Not good with: Other dogs & vet visits.  Housetrained: Yes!Crate trained? Yes! Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? Would prefer a physical fence.Walks well on a leash? Yes!Challenges: Ben shows high stress in extreme excitement situations.  Meeting new people can be challenging as he is hand shy - his foster mom is happy to speak to potential adopters about these challenges in detail.Any medical issues? NoWhat would be the best kind of home for Ben? A calm, quiet home without a lot of chaos and drama would be ideal for Ben.  His new family should be willing to work with him and devote time to him.  Large breed experience is a plus, especially since the Beorboel breed can be stubborn and comes with their own set of unique breed traits. He deserves a family that will stick with him.  He is an exquisite boy who has a lot of love to offer as a solo pet and will make someone incredibly happy!Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy:Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fill out an Adoption Application RUCKUS IS LOCATED IN JARRETSVILLE, MD. Hello. I’m Ruckus! I am a good house dog at about 75-80 pounds. I am potty trained and I do not steal food off the counter and am not destructive when I’m free ranging in the house once I’ve settled in. I’m low to medium energy. I’m currently living with adults and teens and I sleep in a dog bed in my foster parents room. I’m very quiet in the house and yard and never bark at people walking by or even other dogs walking by. I take a bit to warm up to anyone new in my home or yard. I just act scared and bark, but if the stranger ignores me and lets me investigate on my own terms I do come around. Once I know you’re my friend my head will be in your lap. :) It took a couple weeks to get used to all the teens at my house because they come and go a lot but now we are all friends. I met a 2 1/2 year old human and I really seemed to like her immediately! I followed her all around the yard and was very tolerant of her petting me and her loud noises and quick movements. I seem to be animal friendly. I currently live with male and female Great Danes and love them. I like to play with them and my foster mom says I’d do really well with a dog of any size to play with. I don’t play very rough. I don’t bark at the next door neighbor’s “ankle biter” dogs and I seem to be unphased by cats and even the chickens in the back yard. Once I know where home is I don’t want to leave. I don’t try to leave the fenced yard. I love laying in the grass. I never dig or try to climb the fence. If you go in I will probably scratch at the door because I really just want to be with you. I am still getting used to the leash and the car. I’m never aggressive but I just act very scared. I have practiced in the house and the yard and I’m much better now, but I still don’t want to leave my yard. My foster mom says I "pancake" when she tries to get me to come out of the yard or get in the car. I needed to be lifted in the car for my vet visits. I will need some help in overcoming my fears. At the vet I am perfect. I let them do whatever they want to me. And I am completely fine with all the other dogs and cats at the vet. My foster mom says I make my dog siblings look bad. I am very good for nail clips too. In fact, the only part that’s difficult is that I’m trying to climb in my human's lap while they are cutting my nails. You can also clean my ears - I don’t mind. I really love attention. As far as toys, I'm happy with a few toys and am past the “I need to chew and play every second” age. I like my elk antler! And I like soft toys as long as they don’t squeak.  For some reason I don’t like squeaky toys. I don’t seem to have any digestive issues. I have super soft fur and love to be brushed and love, love, love to snuggle. If my foster parents would let me, I would climb right in their laps. My perfect home would not have many different visitors every day because I will bark at new people in my house or yard until I get to know them. A doggy friend would be great as I love to be around my kind! In fact I would probably be happier and learn the routine super fast with another dog to follow! And kids should be fine too.  Once I trust you, I’m your best friend. My family should let me free range in the house because I really don’t like to be confined. I don’t seem to have any food aggression but my foster mom feeds us all separately because she says my foster brother can be stupid about food sometimes. I’m a really good girl once I learn the routine and I would love to have a family to call my own. Story
This adorable pup is Bubba Gump and he's a little bit country. :D His bestie is Opal. We'd love for them to be adopted together but will consider apps with other dogs. Neither of them likes not having the other around.  Bubba is a gentle giant at 85 lbs and 5 ish years old.For the last few years, he's been doing his best Forrest Gump impersonation and running across the state of Alabama.... Really it was only the town of Montevallo but he's really good at running. :D However, since getting caught, he realizes his place is among the people! He is a gentle lug  Bubba is very friendly and a curious boy. He wants to know about all the things. His favorite things are cheese, scratching his back on shrubs, and rolling in the grass. When he is ready to roll, he doesn’t just lay down and roll... This boy gets some momentum going, goes into a head first somersault, and hits the ground with a big THUD. Apartments probably aren't a fit :D. This sweet boy walks great on a leash, is house trained, and is a quick study.  Bubba is a friendly boy and loves meeting other pups but only plays for about 10 seconds before deciding laying down is better. His energy level is definitely closer to couch potato. Bubba hasn't been around small kids but we'd recommend older kids just because of his size.  If you think Bubba (& or Opal) might be the one for you, please let us know by completing an adoption application. We'll forward that to his foster pawrent who will reach out to answer any questions and provide additional information on him. We do provide discounts for multi pup adoptions too. So apply today! You might be the perfect match. =========================================================== If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. We are all celebrating because TATE IS HW- AND IS OFFICIALLY CLEARED TO GO ON TRANSPORT TO A FOREVER HOME 🏡 🥳 Tate is a big, handsome snuggle bug that is searching for his forever family🏡 Tate came into rescue already a 100% good boy and ready for his forever home. He is around 6 years old & a wonderful, settled pup. He is a mastiff mix that is respectful with his size and loves to give us a big beautiful smile in exchange for belly rubs🥰 Tate gets along with everyone he meets, human and animal alike, and we think he would do well in a home with or without furry siblings. He is currently in a home with two other male dogs and they get along wonderfully! He is very passive and friendly. More than anything, he wants a couch and a bed to snuggle up on and some people to spend his days with. He also LOVES car rides and will rest his head on the dash while being your shotgun rider💕 Tate is housetrained, walks well on a leash and is great with kids! He needs to be in a home without cats, but we know there is a perfect, cat-free home out there! Story
Dobby was adopted, and returned to us at no fault of his own 😓 He is back in Alabama and is the most handsome “miniature horse” we’ve ever seen! He is a lab/pittie/mastiff(?) mix with the most adorable jowls and saggy eyes. He walks with a leisurely pace and he LOVES him some ladies! He is timid with men, but will find a lady friend and follow her around, leaning against her leg or bringing a ball to play 🎾 Dobby is gentle with his size: he doesn’t jump or slam into you when greeting, walks well on a leash and prefers snuggling on a big dog bed over the couch so he won’t steal your spot during nap time!💤 This big boy is ready for his “happily ever after,” if you’ve been waiting for an XL BFF, apply for dobby today!
