She's about 4 years old and this big, beautiful Boerboel arrived in July, 2023 after having a couple of unfit homes. Spice needed some time to put all of that behind her, and she needed help in learning how to trust again. She's a resilient girl though, and she does her best not to let things get her down. Unfortunately, it does get her down, being here for so long. When Spice comes out of the kennel with friends, she's a big, bubbly goofball! She bonds intently with her friends and, as mastiffs are, she's protective of those she's bonded with. It takes her a minute or two to get to know and trust you but once she does, she just about knocks you over with leaning against you to get all of your attention. Spice is well-behaved and has learned lots! She knows sit, stay, down, paw, and so much more. She's good on a leash and loves toys too! Spice has had lousy experiences with pets in the past so it's best if she goes to a home where she can be an only pet. That just means she'll love YOU all the more though. She hopes so much that you'll just give her a chance already. She'll love you forever if you do. Call 609-693-1900 or email: office@ahsppz.org for an application. Story
Lexi is a special girl. Unfortunately, she was part of a long-term case and has been at the shelter for 4 years that is 1,460 days! During her time with us we have grown to love Lexi and have learned a lot about her. She is a mastiff mix and weighs in at 100 pounds and is now around 8 years old. She is a gentle girl with those that she knows but will bark at new people and is aloof until she knows them better. She is somewhat of a diva and enjoys going outside to lay in the sunshine! She loves attention and enjoys getting butt scratches! Lexi will most likely need multiple visits to build a relationship with potential adopters before going home with them. At this time, she will be shown to adopters with approved applications and by appointment only due to her shy nature. Lexi does best with a routine and will need some time to adjust to a new one. An adult only home would be best for Lexi. Lexi deserves to find a loving forever home to spend her golden years in! Lexi has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, Heartworm/Lyme tested, and microchipped since her arrival at the shelter. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Izzabella aka Izzy. HISTORY: One owner who did not provide basic medical care so Izzy lived many year with out of control skin issues, ear infections, UTI’s, etc. PERSONALITY: Izzy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves meeting new people and welcoming them into the house. She loves attention and affection and will lean in hard for pets and ear scratches. She tends to spend her days snoozing away but when she gets the zoomies she takes them seriously and this girl can move despite her age.  She lives peacefully with a 60lb male mixed breed but is reactive when seeing dogs out on a walk. Izzy is a bit fearful of fireworks and thunderstorms and will sometimes get spooked by loud noises. Izzy likes things to happen on her own personal timeline and can be stubborn when they don’t. She will test limits by whining and carrying on (dancing around, stomping her feet, wagging her tail furiously while staring at you) to try to get her way. She’s learning that those things don’t work in our house but it’s hard not to laugh at her antics. She’ll do it to the other dog in the house too when he’s laying in a bed that she wants. She usually gets her way with the dog.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Napping, soaking up love and attention, laying in the sun MEDICAL ISSUES: With vet care and a quality diet Izzy’s skin issues and ear infections have cleared up and she is no longer a big itchy mess. She did have a mammary tumor removed while being spayed. She is not currently on any medications. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Izzy enjoys hanging out with her people, so a family that spends a lot of time around the house/yard/garden would be great for her. Once integrated with another dog she is very polite and respectful but she definitely needs slow introductions to new dogs. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application Beautiful,  Bright, Shining Moon... Moon came from a home in Ohio where she lived with a family and her sister Luna. Moon is extremely sweet and calm. She has a laid-back personality, and although she does enjoy a romp, most of the time, she just meanders around the yard. She loves to be scratched and rubbed on and like most mastiffs, she also is a leaner. She leans right into you for love. Moon does okay on a leash, but will need some direction only because she is inexperienced. She is great in the car, she  spends her time quietly watching out the window or laying down. Moon was just recently vetted, spayed, and microchipped.  She did test positive for Lyme but is being treated, and of course, her prognosis is great. Everyone at the vets office fell in love with her.   She currently weighs in at 91 lbs, is potty trained, and doesn't mind going into a crate. She is good around children, but Moon will chase chickens and cats! Her ideal family would be one where she will get tons of attention, lots of love, maybe with another large dog, but not necessary. Overall her personality is bubbly, friendly and bright and she will bring a lot of love and tons of fun to a family. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Hi everyone I am Luna. I am a 3 year old English Mastiff. I am so happy you are reading about my story because I hope to find my forever home soon. I have so much love to give. HISTORY: I am the famous Mastiff that has been circulating the world of Facebook. I was brought into the rescue when they found out I had a prolapsed uterus and I needed an emergency hysterectomy. I had my surgery and it went extremely well, I then went to my foster home to recover, which I also did amazingly. I am all ready for my happily ever after. PERSONALITY: I’m a goofy giant! I sometimes think I’m just a floating nose without a giant body attached. My foster mom calls me a Velcro dog, I’m not sure what she means by that… All I know is I love to be wherever she is leaning on her or sitting on her feet. I love to play fetch, I love all the toys, and I super duper love treats and cheese!! FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: I love to play with my foster brothers (goldendoodle, bullmastiff and Pomeranian) I play bow except backwards… I tuck my bum and run all around waiting for them to chase me. I also love to just chill in my kennel with some stuffed animals and blankets. MEDICAL ISSUES: N/A WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: I would love a home with other dogs, I love to have friends and play. I am great with adults and children… I am intimidated by men at first, but I warm up quickly. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I am a very lovable girl who just wants a home where I can have all the head and belly rubs. I am very quiet, my foster mom has never heard me bark at all. I am the poster for an English Mastiff, a true gentle giant. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. Story
Gus was 1 of a litter of 3 mastiff mix puppies rescued from a neglect situation at 9 months old. He is great with other pets in home/on farm. He wants to please and be your companion. He will probably mature to be over 100 lbs. I've been fostering him for a 2 months and he's good for veterinarian. His neuter surgery is scheduled for October 2nd and pre paid for at a vet hospital in charles town wv. If he found a home prior, the adopter could take him to be neutered and it's paid for. He would do well with a strong adult because he is young, athletic, and strong. He would do better with teenagers verses small children because he could accidentally knock over small kids. He would make a wonderful farm dog but with a family that provides comfortable environment for him to sleep and spend time with him. He will keep way foxes, coyotes, etc just with his size He has shown no aggressive behavior over food, other pets, or with people. Someone with giant breed experience best. /p>

Story
Hi there, I'm Joanie. I might be a senior, but don't let that fool you. I've got a heart full of sweetness, a dash of shyness, and a sprinkle of goofiness. My favorite game is fetch, and I can still give those young pups a run for their money. I'm a bit shy at first, but once I warm up to you, we'll be the best of friends. I love snuggles, belly rubs, and the occasional treat. Despite my age, I've still got plenty of love to give. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will bring joy and laughter to your life, then I'm your girl. Adopt me, and let's make beautiful memories together.

Story
Hercules is looking for someone to be their hero.  This 3 year old 170 pound Bull Mastiff is massive and definitely the size of a small pony.  He is a lazy, affectionate big OOF that needs someone bigger and stronger than him to make him their sidekick in life. Hercules needs to be introduced slowly to other dogs. He has never been socialized with other dogs and deserves that chance. For years Hercules had lived with his sister until his owner could no longer care for him or the sister. He and his sister would drop off at the owners parents and told I don't know that he's good with other dogs even though he never tried him. The sister was easily adopted but alas Hercules was labeled with no real testing. Critter Calvary in trying to help this boy find a new home has stepped up and gotten a trainer to go over there and he said all Hercules wanted to do was excitedly meet the other dog and play. He's goofy and he's a little clumsy and he needs some training. He's not great on a leash but he's not terrible. Hercules needs a chance in life and not to be assumed that he's bad in any way because his heart is golden. His efforts will be a little clumsy but someone give this boy a chance to be inside the house and loved and going for walks and being given the trust that his heart is a good one. And an accepting one. We will require that others to adopt him will take him to training and getting polished into the smooth and gentle giant that he is.  Please someone give Hercules a chance to be loved and not parked in a fenced backyard.   He is housebroken, crate trained and he is not destructive in the house.  This boy will make you laugh, make you want to protect him (even though he is big) and he will love you unconditionally and who in the world would ever break in to your home!?  Goodness they would be insane.   This boy loves people though….but if you don’t know him then he could be a nice guardian.   A fenced yard would be the perfect environment for everyone.  If you qualify, then please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comSeptember 16, 2024, 9:40 pm
