Also known as Rugie, this 12-year-old Chihuahua mix is basically your retired neighbor who won’t come to the BBQ but insists you bring him a plate. When he first arrived, he spent two weeks hiding in his kennel like a dramatic soap opera character—but give him some treats and gentle words, and suddenly he’s the mayor of the house. Rugie thrives on attention like it’s oxygen. He must be the center of the party, even if that party is just you trying to eat dinner in peace. He’s got the spirit of a younger pup, the bladder of a much older man (yes, there may be a surprise puddle now and then), and the fashion sense of someone who thinks sunbathing on a heating pad is a lifestyle. This little man lives for walks. If he had his way, he’d be out all day, catching rays in the yard like a four-legged lizard who’s judging your life choices from the patio. He gets along great with other dogs—probably because he knows being small and spicy works better with backup. He’s a lover of toys, snuggling in bed, and making sure you never forget he exists… even for five minutes. So if you’re looking for a pint-sized companion who thinks he's the king of the castle, Ruger’s your guy. Just know he comes with a little attitude, a lot of love, and an unshakable belief that the warmest spot in the house belongs to him. Ruger is from a local shelter. Michael is a very sweet but timid min pin/doxy born approx 11/5/23. He really, really wants to be loved, but has to remember his bravery each time. He comes close and then scooches on his belly towards you for some neck scratches and tummy rubs. He truly is the sweetest boy who loves it when you throw his stuffies and play with him. He can be very energetic when he’s in a playful mood, but is just as happy to curl up and nap in a quiet spot. He is skittish and still learning that all humans can be friends, but given time and patience, his courage and personality shine. He is very submissive and often flops onto his back as he approaches. He does well with other dogs, a little wary of larger ones at first, and would benefit greatly from having another similarly sized friend to take cues from or being in a home where someone is always around. He’s almost there on potty training and will use his crate willingly. He prefers the door to stay open if someone is around, so he can choose where he wants to be. He does well with children, but until his bravery develops, he’s more comfortable around older kids who may give him the space he needs to open up.
