Story
**Please read Petu's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!** Meet Petu, an 8-year-old Mixed Breed, weighing 14 pounds (as of 12/30/25)! He was recently surrendered when his primary owner sadly passed away. While Petu will miss and always love his previous home, he hopes to find the next home where he can continue to be the perfect companion. Petu is a true sweetheart and loves to spend time with his humans. Whether it's yelling at the TV when your home team loses the game, celebrating Thanksgiving with the new in-laws, or selling Girl Scout cookies outside a grocery store, Petu wants to be a part of life's precious moments. His favorite activities include going on walks around the neighborhood, chasing balls and playing with his toys. While he can be a little timid around men at first, but he does warm up to them eventually. It helps if you bribe him with treats (which he LOVES)! Petu is also very alert when it comes to strangers and is more than ready to bark if a group of kids are about to egg your house! Not on his watch! He also "sits," "leaves it," and comes when you call him. In 2021, Petu had a grade 1 heart murmur, which is now a grade 2-3 in recent visits. It was recommended that he have an echo, and he is also blind due to bilateral cataracts. According to his previous owner, Petu can still see and didn't walk into objects around his home, but he'll need patience as he adjusts to the unfamiliar surroundings of your home. Petu is pee-pad trained and would thrive in a home with an older person or couple who enjoy peace and quiet as he's a very gentle and sweet soul. Sound good to you? Adopt Petu today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. Story
Meet Coco! Don’t be surprised if you fall in love with his silly, scruffy face immediately. This guy still has a heart full of love to give! He’s calm and sweet and loves to snuggle close to his people. He’s also been getting along great with his canine friends here at our shelter. Coco is apparently deaf, which means loud noises, doorbells, and you calling his name from across the room are simply not his problem. This may be genetic or age-related, but the good news is that his physical exam showed no other abnormalities- he’s otherwise feeling just fine. Because he can’t hear cars or other environmental noises, Coco will need a home that understands the importance of keeping him safely supervised, especially outdoors or near traffic. What Coco lacks in hearing, he makes up for in personality. He’s great at reading vibes, routines, and affection through gentle touch. He’s a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal, low-key friend who will happily share quiet moments, naps, and unconditional love.coco has joined our extended stay program, meaning his fees have been reduced in hopes to find his forever homecapeannanimalaid.org/dogapp

Story
Tony is an adorable senior pup looking for a loving home. He is 13 years old and weighs 27 pounds, though he is overweight. Tony was surrendered to Vintage Pet Rescue in January after his elderly owner could no longer physically care for him. He is a very sweet, happy, older dog. Tony has been living with a dozen other dogs and mostly keeps to himself. He will growl if a dog bumps into him or gets too close because he doesn’t want to be stepped on. With people, he is very sweet and will wag his tail and give kisses when approached. Tony has arthritis and has trouble climbing stairs. He also does not like being picked up because of his joint pain, so he will need a home with minimal stairs. He is currently taking medication (gabapentin) for his arthritis. Shedding excess weight will also improve Tony's mobility and comfort. At his recent vet visit, we treated an ear and eye infection. His lungs sound good, and there was no detectable heart murmur present. Prior records from his previous owner note a mass of fat on his heart and nodules on his liver. Tony is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and recently had full bloodwork. If you're interested in adopting Tony, please complete an application at: https://www.vintagepetrescue.org/adopt
