Roughly 90% of our dogs are adopted prior to their transport up to MA and 10% are adopted locally.Meet Phoebe! She is approximately 7 years old, 12 lbs currently and she may have some Poodle in her mix! She joined our rescue after her previous family went to live in assisted living and couldn`t take her with them.In her foster home, she is doing great with her house training, crate training, and leash walking. She could join households with other dogs. No kids or apartments, please! Cats are unknown. Her foster says, `Phoebe may be around 7 years old, but don`t let her age fool you! She can easily keep up with the playful 1-year-old pup in my home, then turn right around and relax with the senior fur babies. She truly fits in with everyone. Phoebe is the all-around ideal companion and has a way of brightening even the darkest days. She`s been the perfect house guest and is such an easy girl to love.Phoebe has it all—beautiful looks, intelligence, wonderful manners, she`s house-trained, and has a calm, gentle nature with just the right amount of playful spunk. If you`re looking for a loyal best friend who will happily join you for adventures or simply cuddle by your side, Phoebe is your girl. Story
Small in size but huge in personality, Mister is the kind of dog who makes an impression the moment you meet him. He’s smart, expressive, hilarious, and full of opinions — and once you earn his trust, he’s an incredibly fun and loyal little companion. Mister loves to play, has endless energy for adventures and enrichment, and is always ready to work for snacks (which is great, because this clever guy is eager to learn!). He’ll happily jump into your lap for attention once he knows you’re part of his circle. 💜 Mister is looking for a very special home that understands dogs with big feelings. He came from a neglectful situation last winter and missed out on important early socialization and life experiences, so the world can still feel overwhelming to him at times. Because of this, Mister is searching for an adult-only, dog-experienced home that is committed to positive reinforcement training and helping him continue to build confidence. He has a big voice and likes his privacy — unfamiliar people and dogs are something he’ll absolutely let you know about! A quiet neighborhood with a fenced yard would be ideal for him so he can feel safe and comfortable. Mister is currently looking for a solo pet home while we continue learning more about him around other dogs, and he is not a fit for cats. He can become overstimulated when excited and may use his mouth during play, so he needs adopters who are comfortable managing and redirecting mouthy behavior appropriately. Mister also has some resource guarding tendencies with things he believes are “his,” so he will need experienced adopters who understand management, structure, and positive reinforcement training. He gets nervous with handling and grooming as well. Due to his coat, regular grooming is essential, but it’s not something he’s currently comfortable with. His future family should be prepared to work closely with a trainer and groomer to help him feel safer during grooming experiences and be open to sedated grooming when needed to keep him healthy and comfortable. Mister currently takes daily anxiety medication, which has been very helpful for him, and he’s looking for adopters committed to continuing that support. He needs patient people who will respect his boundaries, move at his pace, and celebrate the little wins along the way. In return, you’ll get a goofy, intelligent, deeply entertaining companion with so much potential and so much love to give to the right people. 🐾 **Mister's adoption fee has been generously sponsored, along with a training package for his new family to start off on the right paw**

Story
Meet Avril! Avril is a gentle soul with a heart that's slowly learning how to trust. She can be shy and cautious around people at first, but every little milestone—like the tail wag that took a whole month to appear—feels like a huge victory. She'd love a quiet, adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand that patience is her love language. Avril feels safest with another small, friendly dog companion. She loves spending time in her Foster’s fenced yard, running around with her canine friends, lounging on the porch, or chewing on a favorite stick. While she's independent and happy doing her own thing, once she trusts you, she'll happily curl up nearby on the couch. Avril isn't comfortable with stairs, and is still learning house-training routines. If you're the kind of person who celebrates the small wins and understands that trust can't be rushed, Avril just might be your perfect match. Beneath her timid exterior is an incredibly sweet dog who deserves a chance to bloom. 💕

Story
Age:   approx 5 years old (Mia)  6 years old ( Coco)  Weight: 12  lbs and 13 pounds My adoption fee is $ 975  which includes transportation charges to the Northeast. Coco is a 6-year-old Poodle/Terrier mix weighing about 13 lbs, surrendered to us alongside his best friend, Mia . These two are a bonded pair and take great comfort in navigating the world together. Like Mia, Coco is fearful in new situations and needs time to feel safe. Compared to Mia, he has a more dominant, confident presence and often takes the lead when the two are together. Once he settles in, his curiosity really shines — especially when food is involved! Treats are a great way to earn his trust and help him explore new things. Coco is still learning house manners and will need continued potty training, along with patience and positive reinforcement. In a familiar, safe environment, he’s already beginning to show more of his playful, inquisitive side, particularly when he’s with Mia. Coco would thrive in a calm, understanding home that respects his boundaries, embraces his food motivation, and keeps him together with his bonded companion. With time and consistency, he has so much potential to grow into a confident and loving little guy.   Mia is a 5-year-old Terrier/Chihuahua mix with a soft grey coat, a tiny 12-lb body, and a heart that’s still learning how to feel safe. She was surrendered with her best friend, Coco , and the two are a bonded pair who find comfort and confidence in each other. Mia is very fearful when first meeting new people or experiencing new environments. She may freeze, hide, or take time to observe — she’s not sassy or aggressive, just scared. The good news? Once she feels safe (especially with familiar people), her happy, playful curiosity comes out, and she loves showing it off alongside Coco. She’ll need help with potty training and will do best with a patient, understanding home that lets her move at her own pace. A consistent routine and gentle, positive reinforcement will go a long way in helping her continue to build confidence. With time, love, and her pal Coco by her side, Mia has all the ingredients to truly blossom.   If you serious about adopting, the first step is to fill out an adoption application on our website:   https://www.smalldogrescuene.org/July 21, 2026, 10:39 pm

Story
Aura Provac is currently in RI and looking for a 'furever' home!    Aura was found as a stray in Providence - she was caught trying to throw herself over a chain-link fence to get into a children's daycare to play with the kids! Nobody ever claimed her, and she was very shut down in the shelter! However, out of the shelter her personality has really bloomed! Aura has opinions, so many opinions! For example: Auras likes include: being with you! Going where you go! Hopping over baby gates to go where you go! Going in between your legs out the door to go where you go! You get the point. Girl is needyyy! Aura loves to cuddle, car rides and enjoys getting dressed up to go out with YOU! Auras dislikes include: being without you! Not going where you go. Being left behind! With a close runner up of: strangers! But luckily for Aura, all strangers are one cuddle away from being a friend. You will just have to get past her barking at you first Aura loves people and definitely would do best with someone home a lot as she does have separation anxiety. Aura is about 2 years old, 10lbs & some sort bichon or maltipoo mix! ! She is fine with other boy dogs and cats but loves, loves, loves her human! She loves kids but would do best with older, dog-savvy kids! Aura is potty trained and would probably do best in a fenced yard since she has a tendency of running through your legs out the door! Aura can jump a baby gate with the agility of a gazelle and has no problem leaping onto the back of the couch from floor. She loves to be an acrobat and will squeeze through small spaces or use a chair as a gateway to a table or counter to steal your tacos (speaking from experience here) If you are looking for a permanent sidekick with a gold medal in the high jump, LOOK NO FURTHER! Aura has a hilarious personality, she is truly one of a kind and would love to never leave your side. If you think Aura would be a good fit for you, apply today! **Due to clinic delays: this puppy will be available for adoption with the collection of an additional $100 spay/neuter voucher deposit, which will be refunded upon receipt of successful procedure at our partnering clinic.   If you are interested in adopting this dog please complete the adoption application at www.rhodehomerescue.org/adoption-form to become a pre-approved adopter.   If you were already approved through Rhode Home Rescue within the last 6 months, contact us today!
