Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Pearl Jam, Pearl to her friends, is from Texas.  She was rescued from a high kill shelter there after being surrendered by her previous owner.  Pearl is a sweet older pup who is excited to find her forever home in Minnesota! At 11 years old and blind, Pearl enjoys the quiet, simple life. She needs time to warm up (result of being blind), but once she realizes she is safe, she’s as loving and easy as they come. She eats, sleeps, has the occasional burst of energy, and is fully potty trained—she even knows the word “potty” and goes to the door when she needs out. She’s independent in her own way, putting herself to bed every night by climbing the dog stairs up to her spot. She loves sleeping in bed with her person, soaking up belly rubs, and rolling onto her back with a big, happy smile. She’s quiet for the most part but will bark to announce visitors. Pearl would do best in a calm, low-key home with no small kids or overly energetic dogs. She’s fine with other dogs but doesn’t necessarily need one, and she appreciates people who let her come to them on her terms. Grooming is important for her, and fragrance-free products work best for her sensitive skin. She’s on medication for her liver, but otherwise, she’s doing well! Pearl has been through a lot, and she deserves a home that will give her the love and stability she’s likely gone without for far too long. She may need a little patience at first, but once she trusts you, she’s the kind of dog who will be your best friend!   Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Pearl Jam is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 2/21/2025 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
