You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Rhodes! Despite a tough start in life, Rhodes’s spirit remains unbroken. Rhodes was rescued from an abusive owner and has never truly experienced the joys of being a carefree dog until now! Rhodes is incredibly affectionate and bonds deeply with his humans. He’s a loyal companion who will stick by your side through thick and thin. While Rhodes is sweet-natured and loving, he can be territorial with dogs once settled in and isn't always adaptable to new dogs being brought into his environment. Slow introductions to new dogs will be important. He needs a patient and understanding owner who can provide him with a calm environment and help him feel secure. However, his natural instinct to guard his space makes him an excellent companion for someone seeking a loyal and protective friend. He is good with kids and people of all ages. Rhodes requires decompression time in the beginning. It is not abnormal for him to not want to eat or drink for a few days. He bonds so deeply with his people and becomes sad when they are no longer there. He does come around and builds new bonds, but requires time, patience, love, understanding and some cuddles along the way. Rhodes is a great lap dog and cuddler. He loves to cuddle on the couch or in the bed. If you have a calm and loving home, Rhodes could be the perfect addition to your family. Rhodes is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 7/27/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 22, 2024, 1:43 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.      Hello, wonderful souls! I'm Peter, your soon-to-be charming companion! I'm a very handsome Miniature Poodle, and I'm discovering the joys of comfort and love in my foster home. Each day brings me more confidence, and I'm eager to share my overflowing love with a special someone—maybe that's you! I am a bit timid, sudden movements, commotion, and loud noises still make me a bit uneasy. However, I'm getting better at facing these fears every day. When foster mom is still, I'm all about those loving pets and cuddles. But if she's on the move, I keep my distance—I even bolt if she walks toward me. I know commands like "outside" and "stop," and leash and potty training are still on my to-learn list. I'm 95% potty trained, especially with a consistent routine. A fenced yard is a must for my adventurous spirit. I'd love to have a canine companion to show me the ropes, help me 'dog' properly, and boost my confidence. We're working on some manners, and my foster pals are excellent teachers. Walking on a leash needs some practice, and a confident pal by my side would be perfect. Despite being easily startled and a bit hand-shy, I've found joy in playing with toys, furry friends, and even those mysterious creatures called cats. I'm all about giving kisses, nibbling fingers, and enjoying ear scratches. Zoomies are my specialty, especially in the fenced yard or on the stairs. I've got some manners to polish up, like waiting for my turn and distinguishing between toys and household items – hee hee! I really am a sweet boy who is simply looking for the patience, unconditional love, and security that I SO richly deserve from my own fur-ever family! I really hope that YOU will be my new family because my heart is overflowing with love that I want to share with someone very special! Love, Peter *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Want to meet me? Come to the Underdog Headquarters (3345 Dakota Ave, St. Louis Park, 55416) for an Adoption Event on Sunday July 21st, 12:00-1:00 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs.   I’m fairly new here but have been gaining confidence by the day!  As with most dogs, when I first meet someone, I’m a little shy and timid.  I’m really curious inside and want to be near so it’ll just need a bit of time to know that you’re a safe space for me.  I’ve been learning about trust and now I’m more apt to stay put than run, when approached.  Once I’m picked up I just melt right in for love.  That’ll likely be my personality all the time once I know you’re my people.  I’ve just started sleeping on my foster’s leg and inching my way up to hopefully a lap soon. In my spare time I enjoy eating and playing with other dogs.  I’m trying hard to follow along and go potty outside but as close as I am to getting the hang of it, I might need a little transition time to learn it at my forever home too. I do well in the kennel and am working on going inside on command.  Won’t that be a neat trick?! I do need a fenced yard in my forever home. When it is time to put on a leash and harness, I get worried. We are practicing how to stay put nicely to put on a harness without bolting.  HAHA  I’m tricky like that.  I haven’t really had any true leash walking experience so that’s something we can practice.  I do know the command for “stay” which is what I’m told when they want to wrangle me in the harness.  I have been snarky with some of the other dogs here when it comes to my food.  I have to tell them to buzz off, that it’s mine.  That seems to be all it is, as I’m not aggressive.  I can be an only dog too if you’d like. I’m just a sweetheart (so I’m told) and quiet overall.  I am still a little timid but not as much as I was when I first arrived.  I hope to find my forever home so I can have all the love I deserve. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs.   How do you do? Regina is my name, quite a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Now, it’s not like a lady to share her weight, but if I must, I’ll make the exception this one time. I am a 26 lb adult poodle, and while some other dogs are okay calling themselves a “good girl” I would say I am more of a refined lady. I mind my p’s and q’s, I wouldn’t dare cross your personal boundaries until I am invited to which I will gracefully accept your invitation. I will stand and give you a greeting hug and put my arms around you in a gentle fashion.        I am rather intelligent and am of the curious kind. If my senses are heightened by a delicious scent from the countertop, I must admit, I may explore but only when I know something is obtainable. Perhaps keeping delicious morsel treats a tad bit higher will keep my nosy nature at bay, which will likely lessen a counter surfing opportunity. Because of my intellect, I will remember where you keep treats, so, take note.        Despite my small frame, I move with elegance, like a graceful horse in stride. Though I have not been around children or felines, I am gentle and calm in spirit, so I do believe my patience will carry over if either were present in my new home. I do not mind other dogs of any size, but I love being with my person, a home without another canine could be ideal. I’m sure either will be quite alright.       I do prefer to be near my master, but will remain quietly poised in my kennel if that’s where you desire me at times, I also understand the command. While I often do not choose to speak, if prompted by another playmate, I may whine until the barking stops. Because I am a smart cookie, puzzle games are a great joy to me, along with treats and food being a delight as well.        I’m hoping my new home has a fenced yard, I don’t enjoy unnecessary sights and sounds, and an area that’s familiar would keep me in a gentler state of mind. I am working on potty training, I go outside, and I do use bathroom pads in the middle of the night, but I do need practice. I would think that with some extra attention in this area, maybe a schedule, I will likely pick up on cues in this area quickly. Perhaps allowing me to have free reign in the home when you are gone will have to be a reward that I must earn because of this reason, which is quite alright as I stated earlier, I don’t mind the kennel.       Well, look at the time, I must take my afternoon nap. Before I go, I will leave you with this thought to keep in mind. I promise to be loyal, loving and a caring companion for the human that is looking for a fellow gentle soul. Sending my warm regards.   *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       Hi there! I'm Blue Jay, a 7-month-old poodle weighing in at a charming 10 pounds. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I'm still a little hesitant when people approach me, and I'll probably run if you get too close too quickly. But if you sit down and give me a moment, I'll come to you because I love pets and snuggles. I'm getting better on a leash every day, and I really enjoy the company of other dogs. In my current home, the other dogs don't really like to play, so I'd love to have a furry friend who enjoys some fun and games as much as I do. My favorite activities include chasing the other dogs around the house and chewing on toys. I haven't quite figured out fetch yet, but we're working on it! When it comes to treats, I only eat them if they are put in my bowl—I'm a bit particular like that. Also, I'm not a fan of loud noises, and I found my first grooming session a bit scary, especially the dryer and the water. I'm still working on potty training, but I'm crate trained and comfortable in my crate. I don't need a fenced yard because I'm getting better on a leash and can go outside for potty breaks and exercise on a leash. We are also working on kennel training, I only whine a little and then I settle down. I’m still a puppy and learning! I'm coming out of my shell nicely and adapting quickly to my new routines. I'm smart, very handsome, and I know I'll make an awesome companion for someone special. If you're looking for a playful, affectionate, and smart little guy, I might just be the perfect fit for you! *I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! P lease note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   This puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up.
