To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application    HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see    HERE Age:  5.5 years (as of 2/27/24) Weight: 9 lbs (as of 12/13/23) Location: RI Chalie is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states.    This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Charlie Schnauz is a sweet purebred Miniature Schnauzer who deserves to be cherished forever. He is five years old, and was recently surrendered by a breeder, along with many other small dogs who all have papers and are currently available for adoption.  Charlie is the sort of dog who will truly touch your heart. He has not had many life experiences and is looking for a quiet household where he can take things slow and build trust.  He can be unsure of handling; this may be due to his limited sight and hearing.  Due to this we do not recommend him for a home with children. He would need a patient home that is willing to go slow with him so he can build up trust. He is startled easily, especially with touch.   He is house trained and has just begun his leash training and is making progress. He likes his crate but only with the door left open.  He is mild-mannered and eager to please. As a previously kenneled dog, he has had to learn about interacting with people and other animals. He is not used to normal dog things like walks on leash.  He is currently in foster with two 25-pound dogs and is ok with them but prefers to observe them vs playing with them. He would love a kind and patient home to call his own.  Medical Note: We suspect he is deaf and may have some sight impairment. He also has some dental issues, which are currently being addressed. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions about these conditions and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see      HERE      for more information about this. To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see    HERE To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:    www.sosarl.org/aa/ *  *Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor. June 25, 2024, 1:34 pm

If you are interested in adopting from Sterling Animal Shelter, please submit an application through our "Pets for Adoption" page.  We are currently open by appointment only Tuesday through Friday, and have Open Hours on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.  Our appointments are scheduled by matching our applications to our available pets. If your application is chosen, our staff will contact you to set an appointment for a meet and greet to spend some time with the animal one-on-one. We do still have same day adoptions, and if your meet is successful, you can take your pet home at the time of your appointment.  To find the best match for each pet, we prefer to have the entire family present when doing an adoption. If you have a dog at home already, please be prepared to bring your resident dog to meet a potential new dog, to ensure all parties get along. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet. Story
🌸Jill This adorable little scruff is Jill, she is a four month old Wire Haired Terrier/ Yorkie mix, a Torkie 🤣 Jill and her brother Jack are the cutest little things ever ! Jill has those precious stand up ears and is a petite little thing at just over eight pounds. Jill is a happy, playful puppy who is learning all about how wonderful life as a beloved fur baby can be. She likes playing with toys, being brushed and pampered and most of all being held like a baby. Jill loves her brother Jack and would be fine in a home with another small dog. She would also do well with older children. She is not a fan of being by herself so she needs a family who is looking for a companion pup who will be included in the family’s daily activities. Jill is still very young and while she does love to cuddle, she is still a puppy and would do best with an active family. 🐾 So, if you think you have the perfect home for this little doll, please submit the application and let’s get her to her forever family. Jill is ready to be loved and pampered for the rest of her life. 🎉
