Meet Jake Jake is a handsome young mountain cur / retriever mix. Sadly, our Jake has been with us over a year now, which is way too long! Jake LOVES people. He is happiest when he can be with them. His eyes shine and he smiles. His body gets all wiggly in anticipation of pets or a game of fetch. This little guy is incredibly sweet and affectionate. Jake has a beautiful soft coat. He’s a medium size dog, currently weighing 50 pounds. He walks well on a leash. He loves playing in the yards and a containment fence will be important for him. He loves retrieving a tennis ball and would play all day if he could. He is energetic and is eager to be out and about hiking, walking, running or riding in a car. That said he has a calm and mindful demeanor. He is a super smart. He knows some basic commands and we think he is house-trained. Jake is looking for his special person or family to bond with. This young handsome doggo is amazing and deserves a second chance at a loving life. Jake will thrive in a home environment. The quiet and consistency of a real home will do wonders for him. Jake does not like other dogs or kitties though, so will need to be an only pet. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Meet Timmy The safe and loving world Timmy knew is gone. Timmy is a five-year-old pup and he is suddenly without his mom and his home. Nothing is familiar to him, the cold cement kennel feels strange and he doesn’t know a soul. Timmy was surrendered recently. He’s confused and sad, you can see the bewilderment in his eyes. He did nothing wrong and his confidence has been shaken badly. Timmy’s Mom surrendered him when she moved in with her mother as a caregiver and there was no room for sweet and loyal Timmy in her life or home anymore. Timmy lived with his Mom since he was six weeks old. He’s perfect in every way. Timmy looks to be a lab mix. He is sweet, friendly, calm, well-mannered and gentle. He likes people and other dogs. We’ll test him with cats. Timmy walks easily on a leash, he is housetrained, and he travels well. Timmy enjoys being out in our fenced yards. He enjoys the sun and exploring. Timmy is fully vetted, neutered and ready to go. We think Timmy will transition easily into a new home. We pray his stay will be short, but it depends on finding the right home. The world has not been kind to him so far, but we believe, with all our hearts, that it’s not too late for this tender soul to discover what it means to be safe, loved, and part of a family. He’s very sensitive to noise and would thrive in a calm, low-traffic home without young children. This beautiful 35-pound sweetheart has been waiting since 2021 for her true forever home. Riley is a proud graduate of the Colwell Rescue Program, where she formed a deep bond with her detainee handler.
