Story
Meet Teddy! Life has asked this little Papillon to start over more than once, but somehow he always seems to greet each new chapter with the same quiet confidence. He simply assumes everything is going to work out—and somehow, you can't help but believe him. Teddy was adopted from a shelter only three months before he was rescued by Miri's. He'd been so excited to start a new life, only to be returned after he committed the grave offense of... being a male dog in a new place, learning new things. He lifted his leg in his new home, and that was enough to earn himself a trip out the door. Teddy's not the kind of guy who dwells on things. He marched into his foster home, introduced himself to the resident dogs, and settled right in. The quickest way to win him over? Grab his harness. The moment Teddy realizes it's time for a walk, he lights up and proudly struts down the sidewalk like he knows he's the most handsome boy in the neighborhood (spoiler alert: he is). Teddy is an easygoing gentleman who enjoys leisurely walks, peaceful naps, and quietly keeping his people company. He first arrived looking adorably frazzled, with enough ear hair to braid, but after a visit to the groomer, he transformed into a clean-cut, hardworking fellow who looks ready to clock in for his shift. He has a hilariously permanently relaxed expression that makes him look like he just wandered out of a dispensary with a few sleeves of Oreos and zero responsibilities. While Teddy isn't looking to be a full-time lap dog, he has his own sweet way of showing affection. When he's ready for a cuddle, he'll quietly wander over, lean against you, or gently rest his head on your leg before continuing on with his day. He enjoys being wherever his people are, rides well in the car, sleeps through the night, and does just fine when left home alone. He gets along well with other dogs, cats, and respectful people, but more than anything, Teddy is looking for a family that will finally give him what he's been searching for all along: a place where he gets to stay. Teddy would thrive in a calm home where he's given the time and space to settle in at his own pace. He has some hearing loss and is sensitive about having his face touched, likely because of past discomfort, so a gentle approach goes a long way. He's housebroken and walks beautifully on leash. While we were told he had some marking behavior in the past, his foster family found that it resolved very quickly once he settled into a routine and was easily managed with a belly band during that time. Teddy doesn't ask for much: a comfortable place to nap, a nice walk, a few quiet snuggles, and the chance to spend the rest of his life knowing he doesn't have to start over ever again. We think he's more than earned that, don't you? Apply today to meet him! Teddy is approximately 15 years 16 lbs. Fostered in Hampstead, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Grace was surrendered to a shelter with her housemate Rocky. Both were scheduled to be euthanized within the week due to fear/anxiety/stress within the shelter. Pulled by this rescue on their scheduled D-Day, Grace had pneumonia and obvious ongoing malnutrition. Once out of the shelter environment she began to open up to her foster Mom. Pneumonia was treated, she was able to get spayed, and now she is a zig zag wiggleworm of excitement! She is silly, fun, playful, happy, fetches, wrestles, and gives kisses! You have to earn her trust before she comes to you, but that is a fair ask! Currently working on potty training and getting more weight on her and leash training. Goal will be about 25#. She will excel in a home with a fenced yard, daily exercise (she has plenty of energy now!) and people who understand her wariness of anything/anyone. She is an absolute doll that will melt your heart. She takes treats from yiur hands like a sneaky raccoon… slowly and carefully, then runs off to eat them! Story
Benny was adopted July 2026! Meet Your Unicorn Dog: Benny! Some dogs are good with cats. Some are good with dogs. Some are good with kids. Benny is good with all three--which is why we think he's the trifecta of perfection. Benny is a happy, social boy who loves everyone he meets and would love to be part of an adventurous, loving family. He's also very treat-motivated, making him eager to learn and easy to train. Although he's already fully house-trained, we're sure he would love to learn some new tricks to help entertain at your dinner parties. His favorite way to steal the spotlight? Chasing his tail whenever he thinks the cats are getting a little too much attention. If you're looking for a sweet, well-rounded companion with plenty of personality, Benny is your guy! My Profile Age: 2 years old Weight: 45-50 pounds Good with kids: Yes Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes Fenced yard: No Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Yes House trained: Yes Meet Me If you are interested in Benny, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application. Please consult our Adoption FAQ before contacting us. Please check the adoption-show-attendees page to see if Benny will be attending the next adoption show. NOTE: We are an all volunteer group and do not operate a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes. If you are not local to the DMV area, but are interested in one of our adoptable pets, that's okay. If you're approved to adopt, we can work out the geography!
