Story
Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!

Meet Harper: He’s the easy “Yes”. Some dogs feel like a deep breath. That’s Harper. He’s a 59 pound Plott hound mix who we estimate was born around 7/27/24. And he is effortlessly good company. Harper doesn’t jump. He doesn’t demand. He just is. Sweet. Easygoing. Happy to stroll beside you on leash or wander politely off it. He gets along with other dogs and has a calm, steady way about him that makes everything feel simpler. Why Harper stands out: * Dog-friendly * Loves children * Smooth on & off leash * Polite manners, no jumping * Gentle, relaxed, and kind * Anxious to please and learns things quickly * UTD on vaccines and preventatives * Heartworm negative! If you’re looking for a companion who already knows how to be good company, Harper is waiting. This boy is the perfect addition to any family. Are you ready to make yours the luckiest family? Story
🐾💕 Meet Willa 💕🐾 Willa is a 3-year-old, spayed female Plot Hound mix weighing around 60 pounds, and she is searching for the patient, loving forever home she truly deserves 🏡❤️ This sweet girl was found as a stray while sadly pregnant. She lovingly raised her puppies, and now that most of them have found homes, it’s finally Willa’s turn to be spoiled and loved 🥺🐶 Willa can be a little shy and slow to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she becomes the biggest love bug 💕 She is incredibly sweet, quiet, and gentle in the home. She does well with other dogs and mostly ignores cats. Because of her timid personality, she would do best with older children who understand how to give her space and patience. Willa is still learning that leashes are safe, so she will require a securely fenced yard to help keep her comfortable and safe while she continues to build confidence 🐾 Due to a suspected history of neglect, Willa unfortunately tested positive for heartworm disease. She is looking for a foster-to-adopt home willing to bring her to a vet clinic in Plymouth for her treatment appointments. The rescue will fully cover the cost of her heartworm treatment ❤️ Despite everything she’s been through, Willa remains such a kind and loving soul. She just needs someone willing to give her the chance she’s never truly had before ✨ ✔️ Spayed ✔️ Good with dogs ✔️ Cat friendly ✔️ Quiet & gentle ✔️ Needs fenced yard ✔️ Heartworm treatment covered by rescue ✔️ Potty trained, but not a fan of crates Please fill out an application if you think this sweet girl could be the perfect addition to your family 🐾💕 https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HPH/Dog

Story
Peaches A18533845 lb. spayed female, approx 4 years old -This girl loves to snuggle!-She leans in and welcomes all the pets and attention you will give!-She is treat motivated, sits without being asked and takes them very gently!-Quick movements near her head make her nervous-She really perked up when toy came out. She will chase and retrieve most times.-Overall she is a very gentle and mild mannered girl who has a playful side too!-She walks decent on leash with minimal pulling—although a straight line is still a struggle as she bounces and twirls about-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids •Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** •The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-5:30 **1431 E Ferry St. Detroit

Story
Meet Jake! SEE FOSTER UPDATES BELOW! This happy-go-lucky plott hound/lab mix will have you grinning from ear to ear. He is five years old and is 65 pounds of playful perfection! He has the most wonderful endearing optimism about him that you just have to experience for yourself. Jake is currently enjoying some time away from the kennel in a great foster home and we are excited to share all we learned about him. House-trained and crate-trained, Jake aims to please! He has spent some time with kids and did wonderful with them. Jake absolutely loves his toys (plushies are his favorite). Jake is a fan of meaty treats and knows several commands too! His foster dad is able to take both toys and food away with no issue. Jake's go to move is to gently put his chin on your lap when he's ready to snuggle up for a nap. Jake rides well in the car and does well on leash with a capable handler. After he's done patrolling the yard (fenced-in yard preferred), you'll often find him lounging on the couch napping. After all-it's exhausting keeping the yard free from pesky critters! At the end of the day, Jake sleeps quietly through the night. Based on our evaluation, we feel he will do well in and active, but predictable home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. Jake would most likely be happiest as an only pet where he can soak up all the affection you have to give. If you think he could be the fellow for you, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our jovial Jake!

Story
Hi,My name is Bryan and my family has a 5 year old hound mix who we need to rehome. Bernie is overall very well trained he can run off leash on an ecollar, he is also trained on an electric fence. He enjoys riding in the car and does well in stores. I have done some work with him on shed hunting but he is not fully trained just in the early stages. We have to rehome him because he doesn't get along with our toddlers. There are some issues with space and jealousy between him and our son and he has pinned him down causing scratches from the dogs nails. Bernie is currently at home with us but he is separated from the kids, while this is working short term it is not a permanent solution which is why we are looking to rehome. He is good with other dogs of similar size with proper introductions but we do not think he would do well with cats or small animals due to his pray drive. Thank you and we hope to find Bernie a Kid free home where he is able wander and sleep his days away.
