Arrival story: Came to Waggin’ Tails from Detroit Animal Control in July 2022. Adopted but home just not the right fit.
Approximate age / Weight: 2-3 yrs old / 38 lbs.
Personality: Our petite southern belle is a sweet, shy-at-first, affectionate girl. Your lap will be her comfy haven at night when its time to relax and you will not be able to resist rubbing her silky long, ears.
Walks with Savvy are an interactive experience. She follows that hound nose of hers, walking fast then hard stop to the next thing scent that captures her attention. As a scent hound, this girl would love humans in her life that provide some opportunity to exercise her innate sense-abilities with treks to new places for sniffs, backyard games, etc. Savannah is treat-motivated and would love to learn new things.
As much of a busy-body that Savvy is out in the yard and on walks she is a gentler soul in the home and when guests come over. She warms up quickly, though. She’s a smart cookie and was quick to house and crate train, is good at the vet’s office, has good house manners, knows basic cues, easily redirects when baying (that hound dog awrroooo) and comes when called. Savannah is very responsive to praise and positive reinforcement and would thrive on routine with some added scent-work surprises in her life.
** Savannah is missing most of the fur on her left flank, likely from some type of scalding or burn. While not painful now and healed nicely, sunblock is necessary for the pink areas of the skin if she’ll be outdoors for a period of time.
Forever Home: Savannah would thrive with a family/person who likes to go for walks and explore. She'd enjoy a chance to engage with dog friends or have a sibling who likes to play hard. She equally likes humans and dogs and while she has met children, she removes herself from interacting with small kids with their unpredictable hugs and squeezes. A physical fence is preferred for Savannah to help satisfy her serious sniffing instincts safely but a situation where she'd get plenty of walks would work, too.
