Meet Jack! This guy has a fun and energized personality that's sure to bring some new life into his new home! He's the perfect mix of energetic and lazy. Jack loves to go for long walks or adventures with his people, happy to whatever as long as he's with his people. He has done well with other dogs similar sized to him, but he can be a bit more energetic for older dogs who aren't as interested in playing. He does resource guard high value items (such as treats, food or anything seen as high value), so some extra perceptions around other dogs or young children is needed. Because of his guarding tendencies, he would do best in a home with older children who display a level of understanding around dogs. Meet Stella! This sweet, lazy and goofy girl is ready to find her forever home! Stella is a 6 year old Plott Hound with the cutest floppy ears! Stella gets overwhelmed in chaotic environments and will do best in a calm, quiet home with minimal foot traffic. She loves toys, especially squeaky toys, but they don't last too long when she's around. She prefers to play with her toys alone and my get protective over her toys. She will do well with older children who display a level of maturity around dogs. Stella's favorite activity is sleeping! When she's not following her people around the house or out for an adventure, you can find Stella in her favorite sleeping spot. Stella has gotten along with both dogs and cats, but will need a few days to adjust and get used to them. She's even been noted to play with the cats! Stella loves car rides and sticking her head out the window, making her the perfect copilot! Stella may need some time to get used to her new environment and routine, but once she's comfortable, you'll get to see a whole new affectionate, goofy and occasionally, energetic girl. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   P is for Poppy and P is for perfect! Poppy is a 4-year-old spayed female hound mix who just spent 2 weeks with a foster family. She returns to the shelter with an A+ report card! Poppy quickly adjusted to a house full of children aged 3 to 9 and wagged her tail so excitedly for them every morning that the 6-year-old says she’ll remember that “thump thump” forever. Poppy loves a good stretch before going outside and lives for belly rubs. After a short morning walk Poppy settles nicely for the day. She is content to be in the home with her humans but does not require constant activity or stimulation. She’s just happy sunbathing outside or watching you go about your day as long as you’re willing to pause for a belly rub every now and again! Poppy is housebroken, sleeps through the night (and most of the day!) loves riding in the car, does well on a harness for walks, and is school bus stop approved! She will do best with thoughtful introductions with other dogs. Poppy is adaptable, gentle, loyal, and deeply loving with those big brown eyes staring straight into your soul. Not yet spayed/neutered due to age.Age/Size: Turned 5 months on 8/3; approx. 35–40 lbs currentlyHealth: No known issues except Pocahontas. All will need spay/neuter and updated shots.Training: Not housebroken or leash-trained. They spend time outdoors in a pen and will need dedicated training.Temperament: All friendly with adults and kids; no cat exposure.Location: Schuyler, VA (30 min south of Charlottesville). Will need to meet in-person around Charlottesville.
