Story
Spec is a 1-year-old, 50 lb Pointer/Lab mix with a heart as big as his playful spirit. This happy-go-lucky boy is truly everyone’s best friend—whether you’re looking for a hiking buddy, a backyard playmate, or a couch companion, Spec is all in. He loves to play and is always up for whatever adventure you have in mind. Smart and eager to please, Spec is both treat- and praise-driven, making him a great candidate for continued training and bonding time with his new family. He is wonderful with dogs and cats but does not do well with very young kids. His ideal home would not have kids under 8 years old.  Spec is neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped—ready to head straight into his forever home. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion who will match your energy and brighten your days, Spec just might be your perfect match.April 29, 2026, 9:52 pm

Story
Meet Oliver – The Gentle Giant with a Big Heart  Oliver is a handsome 9-year-old Great Dane/Pointer mix who weighs about 75 lbs. He’s a big boy with an even bigger heart! Oliver gets along wonderfully with dogs and kids of all ages, though he’s not a fan of cats. He’s currently polishing his skills — working on sit, stay, kennel, and no jumping, along with crate training and housebreaking. This smart, eager-to-please boy just wants to make his humans proud! Oliver’s story began when he and his 10 siblings were found in a box by a mailbox at only 10 days old. Most of his littermates found homes right away, but somehow Oliver was overlooked — and he’s been patiently waiting ever since for the family that’s meant to be his. Oliver has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and is heartworm negative. Adoption Fee: $250 If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who’s full of life and affection, Oliver is ready to fill your home with joy — he’s waited long enough for his happily ever after! April 29, 2026, 9:52 pm

Story
Pre-applications takenHe's a puppy so he'll be what he's trained to be, like a child. That'll be on the adopter. He was taken from someone who couldn't care for him when he had to be bottle fed and we truly don't know his real breed, we're only guessing at English Pointer mix. MAYBE. Because that's what he looks like as he's growing. Plus he's trying to hunt birds already. He can't go to a forever home until he's neutered, but we're taking applications. His adoption fee is $250 because that's what it costs us to give the puppy shots, neuter etc etcHe's been doing well in foster with all the dogs, cats and kids. He needs a loving INSIDE home but with a secure fenced yard and respectful kids to play with. He'd love a playmate since he was removed from Mom far too soon. Get your app in but your dog will need to be fixed, up to date on all vaccines and on heartworm prevention. Your vet reference will be checked closely. Apply onlineMadisonarf.org

Story
Candy has a unique look - unless you count her nearly identical sisters! These distinctive girls have ears the better to hear you with and tails that act like rudders when they run - and they are built to run, athletic and active. Intelligent and sensitive, the girls are overwhelmed at the confusing shelter and need time to understand new situations. Having been abandoned and on their own, they are just cautious like that. Candy is a bit more of a free thinker than her sisters. She knows what she wants, and while mostly she wants treats, she also wants some independence. She is the last one to learn 'sit' (didn't wanna!), but does walk nicely on leash and crates up when asked. She is more ready to explore and do her thing. Still, she wants to enter into a fair relationship with new people who are respectful and looking for a partner, not a baby. She has struggled to make new dog friends at the shelter, mainly because of the environment - she has been fine in less stressful situations.
