ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. Meet Tucker!  Tucker is a 3–4-year-old, 46-pound medium-sized sweetheart who we think is a Boxer/Pit Bull/Pointer mix. This special boy has been through a lot, but you’d never know it from his infectious happiness and loving personality. He is incredibly gentle, polite and affectionate. Tucker gets along great with his small dog and kitten foster siblings. He is sweet and respectful with everyone he meets and has such a naturally easygoing temperament. For the most part, Tucker is a laid-back, mild-mannered guy, but he’s always ready to show off his spunky side when it’s time to play! He loves playing with other dogs, chasing a ball, splashing around in the water, and curling up on the couch for cuddle time. Even when he’s having fun, he is gentle and never plays too rough. He is also a remarkably mellow and quiet dog.   Tucker is housebroken, crate trained and settles easily into a routine. He isn’t a chewer or a digger and is truly an all-around easy dog who is happy to hang out and be part of whatever you’re doing. Tucker does have an improperly healed femur fracture, which left one of his legs slightly shorter than the other. As a result, he sometimes has a little hop in his step. It doesn’t seem to cause him pain or keep him from enjoying life, though it may put him at increased risk for arthritis as he gets older. Despite everything he has been through, Tucker doesn’t let his past—or his little hop—slow him down. He is simply a happy, loving boy who is ready for a family to give him the same unconditional love he gives so freely. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. His adoption fee is $300.   All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to  www.secondchancedogrescue.org  and complete an application today!    All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.  August 6, 2026, 11:38 pm

Story
Marvin is a sweet and noble dog, 1.5 years old and 30 pounds. He was hanging around the shelter for a couple of weeks, he was given food, water and some love, but we decided to take him in when he arrived really injured and covered in blood, we think he was attacked by dogs. Fortunately in his medical checkup he didn't come out with many problems, and he is now healthy and ready for his new home! He knows how to coexist with other dogs, although he has his temper, he is usually very tolerant with effusive puppies. He likes to sleep in his giant bed, is crate-trained, house-trained and is sociable and friendly with new people. He knows how to ride in a car, and smiles when you scold him, he is adorable! We don't know exactly what breed he is, google lens finds a resemblance to an English Pointer and Andalusian ratter. The $350.00 adoption fee covers the following: Transport to San Diego, CA. Spay/Neuter. All vaccines up to date. Deworming (puppies 2 sets). Flea medication up to date. Tick control up to date. Microchip. Microchip registration to new owner paid for. Collar. Temporary leash. The adoption fee does not include transportation to North of San Diego

Story
Tux is one of those dogs who makes a great first impression and an even better lifelong companion. He was abandoned on the property where our sanctuary is located, and sadly, no one ever came looking for him. Despite that, Tux has held on to his loving, trusting nature and continues to greet life with a wagging tail and an open heart. He is incredibly friendly, respectful, and easy to be around. Tux enjoys life's simple pleasures: lying next to his favorite people, playing fetch, exploring the yard, or sharing a snack. And when we say he loves food, we mean all food, fruit, chicken, crackers, you name it. If it's edible, Tux is probably interested! He's also a smart boy who learns quickly and responds well to guidance. He understands commands easily and has the kind of adaptable personality that allows him to settle comfortably into almost any environment. Tux is the total package: affectionate, obedient, social, and wonderfully uncomplicated. Story
Jett is approximately 3 years, around 90 pounds, neutered, fully vaccinated English Pointer breed. He will be crate trained but needs patience with potty & leash training~ soon he will be a pro of all three!! He is affectionate, but can be a bit nervous when first met with unexpected changes. Jett gets along well with most dogs (but we suggest he be paired with a female companion), adults and older children alike. Given his adaptability, he should be able to learn your family’s routine rather quickly and become part of the gang in no time!!! Jett was rescued from a gas station parking lot in Tecate. When found He suffered from ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis. Fortunately he is now healthy & flourishing under the loving care of a foster. (Aug 2025) Jett has a lot of love to give and longs for a family who can provide him patience, affection and attention he craves. He deserves a warm and loving home where he can feel cherished as a member of the family!!!

Story
Loki is 4.5 years old and an absolute sweetheart. He's grown up with kids and is very protective over them. He loves to cuddle and get under the blanket at the end of a long day, or hang out on the back of the couch while the family hangs out in the living room.He does struggle with separation anxiety, and has been taking Trazodone for about a year in order for us to leave the house without him constantly barking. Before that, I was always home with him. He is good with other dogs once acclimated, but is not good with cats. He is a very persistent, smart, and sneaky dog; if he can break out of a front door or hop a fence, he will, but always comes back.I think Loki would thrive with an owner who is very active and authoritative. I picture him going on runs, hikes, and even camping trips once properly trained. This is beyond heartbreaking but my life cannot accommodate Loki anymore, try as I might. He deserves someone who can give him everything he needs and more.

Story
Meet Holstein From fearful… to playful… to ready for home. Holstein’s journey began as a scared young pup, running along a riverbed and golf course, unsure of people and the world around him. When A Way Home For Dogs stepped in, they discovered he was just about 6 months old—still a baby who had never truly known love. Today, Holstein is a completely different dog. He’s grown into a big, goofy, affectionate Great Dane / Pointer mix with a personality that keeps everyone smiling. Known for his “Tigger-like” bounce, Holstein is playful, silly, and full of life. He loves carrying around toys, finding the coziest spot in the house (usually your bed), and showing off his excitement before walks.  Perks Playful, goofy, and full of personality Loves toys (the squeakier, the better ) Affectionate and loyal once bonded Great walking companion Keeps life fun and entertaining  Needs Only pet home (no dogs or cats) Older kids (10+) due to size and energy Secure handling on leash (no off-leash) Continued structure and guidance  Ideal Home Holstein is looking for a home that has a calm, structured environment. His perfect adopter is patient, committed, and comfortable handling large breeds.  Holstein has come a long way—from a scared puppy to a joyful, loving companion. Now he just needs someone to give him the home he’s been waiting for. If you’re ready for a big, lovable goofball who will keep you smiling… Holstein is your guy. ##1342588##

Story
My name is Fury because of the distance and way I covered ground as a stray.  I was very young (less than a year old) and very scared.  I would spend a few days or weeks in one location and move far away.  They say it would not be credible if there were not photos to prove it!  After a long distance and time I was creatively secured and safe.  No one came looking or claimed me from the shelter so my captor saved me again.  It took some time, but I learned to trust, embraced love and now find friends in people and fur.  At events I am quick to roll over for rubs, will look at you with my gooey eyes and ask for more when you stop.  I enjoy outings on leash and in public.  I LOVE my people and can't wait to greet them or have one on one wth them.  I do struggle when left alone  so need to be supervised, with someone at all times or safely contained (my escapee skills are almost as impressive as is my destruction).  I am all about being honest but have a huge heart and love to give.    They didn't think I'd make it this far but three years later here I am....... Out and about, confident with people and LOVING life, limited as it is in a rescue.  Please give me a chance and I won't let you down. Because of my Flight Risk I cannot be left unattended in a yard, crate training is a must when you are gone, tight grip on the leash is a must on adventures and my new family must be aware of open doors and windows.  NO offleash activities in unfenced areas for life.
