Cobalt is a sweet scruffy little man originally from OK. One of our awesome fosters opened her home to him so he could have the best chance at finding his furever home! Like most puppies Cobalt is learning everything there is to know about the world. Some things are scary and some are very exciting! He loves his humans and other dogs. Snuggling and playing in the sprinkler are two of his favorite things! Cobalt is currently being fostered in the Chicago suburbs but he can be transported to an approved adopter! Please help us find Cobalt his furever!!

Story
Dean is a young Pointer/Hound mix with a zest for life and a heart full of love. At approximately 1 year old, he’s still very much a puppy at heart—curious, playful, and always ready for his next adventure. Dean is an affectionate boy who never misses an opportunity for cuddles. If you're looking for a dog who believes there’s no such thing as being too close, Dean is your guy. He loves climbing into laps, handing out kisses, and soaking up belly rubs whenever he can. After playtime, you'll often find him curled up beside his favorite people or stretched out dramatically on the couch, completely content. Like many young dogs, Dean is still learning the ropes. He is currently working on basic manners, including commands like sit and nice, and he responds well to positive reinforcement, treats, and consistency. He's smart, eager to please, and enjoys learning new things. Dean absolutely loves other dogs and thrives on canine companionship. Whether he's wrestling with a playmate, following a friend on an adventure, or snuggling up for a nap, he enjoys having a dog buddy around. Cats are still an unknown; while Dean’s intentions seem playful, his enthusiasm may be a bit overwhelming for more laid-back feline friends. Because of his youthful energy and playful spirit, Dean would do best in an active home that can provide regular exercise, continued training, structure, and plenty of affection. In return, he will reward his family with endless entertainment, unwavering loyalty, and more love than you could imagine. If you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing, keep you active, and always be ready for a cuddle, Dean may be the perfect addition to your family. If you're interested in adopting/meeting this pup, please complete our online adoption application, available here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application. Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $250 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 20, 2026, 3:41 pm

Story
Perry is one of those dogs who just makes everything more fun. With his white coat, playful black spots, and soulful eyes, he’s as handsome as they come! He absolutely loves going for walks, especially the kind where he gets to stop and sniff all the interesting things along the way. He’s got a curious nose and a big appreciation for the little things in life. If you're someone who enjoys a good, slow stroll with a happy four-legged companion, Perry will be right there with you. He’s also super food motivated. Treats are the key to his heart, and he’ll do just about anything for a tasty snack. That makes him a fun dog to train and a great match for someone who enjoys working on tricks or building a strong bond through positive reinforcement. Weight: 60 lbs Spayed/Neutered: Yes! Up to date on vaccines: Yes! Microchipped: Yes! Housebroken: Yes! They will potty outside every time or nearly every time (rarely has accidents). Crate-trained: Unknown! They have never been crated while in foster care. Leash behavior: Working on it! They are still learning what the leash is all about and may have some behaviors that will require continued positive reinforcement training. Dog sociability: They don't like them! They do not get along with other dogs and need to be the only dog in the home. Cat sociability: They do not do well with cats! They will chase, bite, attack, or otherwise harm or frighten cats. Kid sociability: No kids, please! They are afraid of kids or reactive toward them, or they have a history of behaviors that make them incompatible with children. Likes: Snackies, walkies, hanging at home with his people Dislikes: Space invaders If you’d like to meet Perry, please fill out an adoption application at animalcareleague.org/adoptions and send us an email at adoption@animalcareleague.org!

Story
Click here for Elvis's Facebook Album April 2026: Well it's been a year since I posted an update on precious Bubba (formerly Elvis) but I am happy to report that he is now heartworm negative and doing GREAT!! He is the happiest Pointer and loving life in foster care. Unfortunately he does have an incontinence problem perhaps due to his neuter and tumor surgery last year. Kinda of a bummer, but I just put a belly band around him indoors as he does love to snuggle on the couch. Bubba is the epitome of what we love in our English Pointers- loving, silly, goofy, playful and just a joy to be around. I did DNA test him and Wisdom Panel thought he was more German Shorthaired Pointer, but we suspect that they don't have a lot of field bred Pointer DNA in their program as he really looks more like a field bred "English" Pointer. He is also calmer than a typical GSP and doesn't need to play fetch constantly. He does like pulling toys out of the kiddie poop however. Bubba is a super special dog and he will need a super special adopter. March 18 2025: Elvis' dental and neuter are done. He did well, lost 4 teeth and we are doing a biopsy on his potential scrotal tumor. What a sweet boy, that just needed some TLC. With heartworm slow kill, we'll test at 8 months and see where he is at, hopefully he'll be negative by then, but oftentimes it takes longer. We are taking our time with him especially since he is also infected with Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Glad he came to IBR otherwise that would have been missed. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home for him in the Chicago area with a safe fenced in yard. Heartworm slow kill treatment is super easy and so much easier on the dogs we rescue. Our adoption or foster app can be found at www.helpibr.org March 2025: Elvis was left outside the city jail in a cage in Tompkinsville, KY a few weeks ago. The jail is sometimes used as the local humane society. He was in terrible shape, extremely thin and frightened. We worked for a few weeks to line up transport and in that time it was discovered that Elvis was infected with heartworms and he had a sore on his testicles. The great folks in Kentucky got his vaccinations done and also got him started on heartworm slow kill. In between some nasty weather, and some plane electrical problems, Elvis was driven to Louisville, KY and then flown to the Chicago suburbs by Captain David Tan. His latest exam and bloodwork shows that Elvis is also fighting 3 tick borne diseases- Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. We got a closer look at his teeth- which were in terrible shape and Elvis also has an enlarged testicle besides a cyst. This poor dog has suffered some terrible neglect but while we are in the search for a longer term foster, he is being cared for and loved on by our good friends at Tail Gate for Dogs in Elmhurst. As Dr. Rimkunas didn't rule out testicular cancer, I have his neuter and dental set up for March 18th and we could really use some donations to help with his ongoing medical care. Story
Daisy is a Pointer (English) and not a German Shorthaired Pointer-- they are similar but different. I add GSP to give our Pointers a little more exposure. Click here for Daisy's Facebook Album October 2025: How about a much needed update on sweet Daisy. She is my PRIDE and JOY and while she is not available for adoption currently because of her health, It's been journey to help her recover from some serious health issues. Back in February, we knew she had heartworms, but when she moved to Illinois for foster care in April because she was struggling, we also found Rocky Mountain spotted fever and a horrendous fungal infection-- Blastomycosis. As the Founder and President of Illinois Birddog Rescue- I took over her care and she had made some huge progress although she has a long way to go. Daisy is a complete joy, with the English Pointer- happy-go-lucky silly disposition we have adored for over 20 years. She is starting to play with other dogs and she loves to run in the yard. I can only hope that what we learn from helping her recover will help other dogs with similar serious health complications. We are all in at IBR HQ with TEAM DAISY. March 2025: Daisy moved to temporary foster care in St. Louis until we can line up a longer term foster or foster to adopt in the Chicago area to help continue her heartworm slow-kill treatment. Here's an update from her foster mom Kathleen, "Daisy is timid and needs to be given 'permission' or needs to be encouraged to leave her chosen safe spots. In our house, those are the bed that came with her, and our couch. I would guess she was taught to 'stay' or 'place' with unpleasant consequences for leaving without permission. Because of that, she is less curious than other dogs we have had - hopefully that will change as she learns she is safe. Daisy is housebroken as long as you pick up on her cues. She is learning the dog door. It was so cold the week after she arrived, that we didn't spend a lot of time on that training. Now that it's warmer and the door is open more, I expect she'll figure it out within the week. Daisy walks with a delightful prance and takes treats super gently. She is sweet and undemanding, only occasionally reaching out gently with her paw to ask for petting if you're sitting next to her on the couch. She has shown no interest in our cats, and gets along well with our dogs. So far, she has not been especially playful with them, but she will happily sleep touching them on the couch or on a dog bed. Her previous foster reported she was also safe around human toddlers. Daisy seems to be interested in chewing on bones and likes to play tug. She has not been interested in fetching toys. Daisy is underweight and surprisingly a bit of a diva about eating, only consuming dry kibble if it's mixed with canned dog food. She will wake from a sound sleep if there's a smell of tasty human food in the house, though - and she's happy to eat that if you're willing to share it with you. (Or if you leave it unattended where she can reach it - working on that now!)" She sure sounds like an easy project. If you are in the Chicago area, have a safe fenced in yard and lots of love to give while giving our new girl extra cuddles, please consider fostering our sweet Daisy. Our application can be found at www.helpibr.org January 2025: Daisy is our newest little Pointer rescue from Tennessee. She was pulled from an overcrowded shelter and is currently in our heartworm slow-kill program. While in her foster home in Tennessee, she is learning what it's like to live indoors, to lay on furniture and to just feel safe. We don't know what her life was like before she came into our program, but we know she was not treated kindly, but she is getting braver and more affectionate everyday. We are looking for a foster to adopt family in the Chicago area with other confident dogs she can feel safe with. The foster must have a safe fenced in yard. The rescue covers all slow-kill supplies. We'll need to get her to our vet for her bloodwork and in a few months we'll schedule her spay and microchip.
