This is a story that will tug at your heart. Hi. It’s me. Ava. Yes, I have the little squishy pug face. Yes, I am a middle aged lady. Yes, I am soft in every possible way. They found me wandering around Calumet City. Just out there. Alone. I am a tiny girl and the world is big. Bigger when you cannot see it very well. We think I am blind. Or close to it. What I know for sure is that I navigate with my heart. The shelter was not the place for a girl like me. Too loud. Too fast. Too much. The rescue stepped in because no one wanted me trying to survive like that. I am not a high-maintenance diva. I am a calm, docile, snuggly little lady. I move slowly. I listen carefully. I memorize the shape of a room. Once I learn it, I am good. I will toddle around like I own the place. What I really want is a person. Someone patient. Someone steady. Someone kind. Someone who does not mind being my eyes. I will follow your voice. I will lean into your legs. I will curl into you like I have known you forever. I am the kind of dog who bonds deep. Not flashy. Not chaotic. Just loyal. Devoted. Yours. If your home is quiet and your heart is open, I think we might fit together perfectly. Update - 03/19/2026:She is an attention seeker. She hears a voice and she jumps up to find you. LOVES FOOD. she does not like it if you take too long to get her bowl ready. She has started doing a low grumbling bark when she thinks your taking to long. Loves to cuddle and be close to her people. Can this girl get any cuter?We can't imagine what she went through when she faced uncertainty and is blind. Our hearts broke. We had to keep her safe and give her a chance at finding a loving home. Arlo is a sweet, fun, easy pup! He gets along with everyone (dogs, cats and kids) and loves to play, but he is not too hyper or needy. If you feel like being active he will happily join you on a hike or adventure. He loves car rides! We recently took him to dog beach and he did well, but wasn't a fan of the water. At home, he enjoys his toys and playing fetch or wrestling with his dog pals. If you just want to relax at home, Arlo is also content to hang out and watch TV with you. Arlo is fine with all people, but can be indifferent when meeting strangers. However, just spend some time with him and he will quickly bond. Then, he loves to cuddle and will even sit in your lap for hugs! Arlo looks like a Boxer/Pug mix. He is only 25lbs and about the size of a stocky Beagle. He is just 2 years old and in great shape! He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped already. Arlo is also crate trained and housebroken! When we rescued Capone from the shelter, we thought we were saving a senior pug with kennel cough. Well, it turns out the shelter got at least one thing wrong. Yes, he had kennel cough (and he's fully recovered now), but our vet estimates this little guy is only about 2–3 years old! At just 16 pounds, Capone is basically made of cuteness, charm, and pure love. In fact, we're pretty sure he might be the most perfect little pug to ever grace this earth. Capone is the kind of dog who fits in just about anywhere. He's potty trained, quiet, walks beautifully on a leash without pulling, and listens remarkably well. He's friendly with dogs, cats, and kids, though very young children with wild energy can make him a little nervous. We don't blame him—when you're only 16 pounds, the world can seem pretty big! Even so, he's always sweet and gentle. What truly makes Capone special is how deeply he loves his people. He forms bonds quickly and would happily spend his days following you from room to room, supervising your activities, and then curling up beside you for a snuggle. He loves his daily walks, but he's not looking for nonstop adventure. He's looking for companionship. A retired person, work-from-home family, or anyone who is home a good portion of the day would be his dream come true. All Capone wants is someone to love—and fortunately, he's very easy to love back. Everyone who meets him adores him. We have a feeling you will too.
