Meet Checkers!
Breed: Pug x Beagle MixGender: MaleAge: AdultSize: Small ([WEIGHT])Good with: Submissive dogs, adults only, people who respect his boundaries
Checkers is sweet, goofy, and full of personality—the perfect combo of Pug charm and Beagle enthusiasm! This little guy loves to play and has that endearing goofball energy that makes everyday life more entertaining. He's happy to romp around and enjoy life, as long as his canine companions are on the more submissive side. Checkers likes to run the show, and he does best with dogs who are okay with that arrangement.
Here's where Checkers shows his quirky side: he's NOT a fan of being picked up out of the blue. He's got opinions about personal space and consent, and he'll let you know if you've crossed a line. However, when HE'S ready for cuddles? He'll present his tummy or jump up to signal he's open for business. It's all about communication and respecting his boundaries—once you understand his language, you're golden.
Because of his particular preferences, Checkers would be a great companion for an adult-only home with people who understand that quirks are what make a dog interesting. He loves to give love to his people, but not everyone is his people—and that's okay! He's looking for someone who gets that he's a complete package: sweet, playful, a little opinionated, and 100% worth it.
If you're ready for a goofy companion who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to tell you, Checkers is your guy!

Disclaimer: The information in this profile reflects observations made while this dog has been in our shelter environment. We strive to describe each dog as accurately as possible; however, behavior and needs may change once the dog is in a new home, routine, or environment. Our dogs are not freeroaming in homes. When we note that a dog is "potty trained," this refers to reliable crate training, not confirmed freeroam house training. Accidents may occur during the transition to a new home, and additional training should be expected. All dogs are examined by our veterinarian, are spayed or neutered if old enough, and are up to date on ageappropriate vaccinations at the time of adoption. We share all known medical information, but we cannot guarantee future health or rule out underlying conditions.
ALL adoptions require a completed application, vet check, and final contract. The application to adopt can be found at www.happyfacespetranch.org
Once your application has been approved, a representative will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. We select the best applicant for each dog based on the dog's individual needs.
