She has an appointment in 3 weeks with a cardiologist. This will need to be addressed and see what options there are for treatment. More to come on this sweet girl.   Update: I am finally over my pneumonia after 2 rounds of antibiotics. I do have severe collapsed trachea and will be on prescription medication for my cough for life. I am still very selective on my eating so my foster mom is working on that. The plan is for my spay with a doctor that is experienced with dogs with collapsed trachea. Once this is done and I am medically cleared my foster mom will go through all the applications for me to select the best possible home for me.  Ava is a 7.6 year old black pug. She has an upper respiratory infection or early pneumonia, and bilateral ear infections. We are concentrating on making her well. Its hard to learn their personality with they come in sick. Ava was bulled in her last home so she fearful of other dogs. She would be best as an only dog or a home with an older dog her size that will give her space.  Ava will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on routine shots, heartworm negative and current on prevention prior to adoption. Fostered in Virginia Beach, VA adoption fee is $300.00  Pugs most be indoor dogs. We only adopt to NC, VA and surrounding states. Adopt A Pet. . .  Save A Life!http://www.apugrescue.org Http://www.pugrescuenc.org Email us:  admin@pugrescuenc.org      July 1, 2026, 8:39 pm

Story
Lennon is a mix of beagle and pug but one thing is for sure he has a lot to say. Lennon will need a home that can help him work on his reactivity when he sees other dogs. Lennon has meet other dogs while here at the VBSPCA and while awkward he coexisted just fine. However Lennon does have some barrier reactivity which will need some work. Adopters should be prepared to work on this on their own or with professional support. We have a great list of trainers we recommend. We highly recommend Lennon as an only pet but if you have a dog in your home discuss with our kennel team if this could be a possibility. Lennon will also need a home with teenagers 16 and up or an adult only home. While Lennon may need a little work on his socialization with other dogs, he loves people! Lennon has a big personality with lots to say if you`re looking for short king in your life Lennon is for you!

Story
Hi, I’m Bugle! I’m four years old, 23 pounds of pug mix personality, and I’m here to keep life lively. Now, let’s talk about me honestly—I’m not your average, easygoing pup. I’m spirited, mischievous, and bursting with energy. I’ve got a knack for finding creative ways to entertain myself, which sometimes means chewing up blankets, beds, or occasionally a cable cord. I’m still working on my potty training and guard my food. I’ll need a patient person who can help me learn better manners. I’m hyper, playful, and dramatic in the funniest ways—you’ll never wonder what I’m thinking because I’ll let you know. Here’s the thing: beneath all the chaos, I’m sweet. I love other dogs, I am good with kids, I enjoy snuggles when I’ve burned off my energy, and I’ve got a scrappy little face that makes people smile even when I’ve just caused a little trouble. I respond well to correction, and with consistency, I’ll thrive. My antics might keep you on your toes, but they’ll also keep you laughing. I’m neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and currently hanging out in Hampton, VA (though I can be transported out of state for the right home). If you’re looking for a dog who’s full of personality, who will challenge you, entertain you, and reward you with affection once you’ve earned my trust, I’m your guy. I’m not perfect—but I’m perfectly Bugle.

Story
Hammerhead is currently enjoying life in a foster home while he waits for his forever family! This handsome boy is full of personality and is looking for an adopter who will appreciate his playful spirit and continue helping him be his best self.Hammerhead is highly treat-motivated, making him eager to learn and a great candidate for continued positive reinforcement training. He has made wonderful progress with his house training since arriving in foster care and continues to build on those good habits. He also settles in a crate for short periods when needed.A true toy enthusiast, Hammerhead loves stuffed toys especially giving them a good shake! He enjoys playtime and benefits from appropriate outlets for his energy.Because Hammerhead can become very mouthy when excited, we recommend a home without small children. He is also looking for a home where he can be the only pet, as he does not do well with other dogs.Hammerhead is searching for a patient, committed family that will continue his training while providing the love, structure, and enrichment he deserves. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a fun loving personality, Hammerhead is ready to meet you! Primary Color: Grey Secondary Color: White Weight: 38
