Story
Meet Penny Penny is an energetic, joyful girl estimated to be 2–3 years old and about 35 pounds. In her photo, she’s sitting attentively in the snow, looking up with soulful brown eyes and an eager expression that perfectly captures her personality. She has a sturdy, compact build, a short coat with warm brown and black coloring, a white chest, and soft, floppy ears that frame her expressive face. Penny looks ready for whatever comes next—as long as it involves people, movement, and fun. This happy girl has a huge personality and an endless zest for life. Penny is always thrilled to see you and greets everyone like an old friend. She is extremely friendly, outgoing, and affectionate, with not a mean bone in her body. Her enthusiasm does sometimes come out as jumping when she’s excited, so continued work on manners will be important. Penny loves getting out of the house and would make a great walking buddy for someone who enjoys daily exercise and playtime. She does best when she has an outlet for her energy and would thrive in a home committed to keeping her both physically and mentally engaged. She is good with most dogs and enjoys social interaction. She has not yet been tested with cats. Penny would be great with kids due to her sweet nature, but because she’s still learning impulse control, she could knock over a small child or grab food if given the opportunity. Supervision and training will be key to helping her succeed in a family environment. Penny came to us from local animal control, so we don’t know much about her past. What we do know is that she’s ready for a fresh start with a family who understands what a young, energetic dog needs to thrive. Penny will need: Consistent, positive reinforcement training Help learning polite greetings and food manners Daily exercise and enrichment Structure, routine, and clear boundaries Patience as she adjusts and continues learning Like all dogs, Penny will need time to decompress and settle into a new home. With commitment and guidance, she has all the potential to become a wonderful, well-mannered companion. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate dog who will greet every day with enthusiasm and a wagging tail, Penny may be the perfect addition to your family. CORI Female 8 years Attributes Adult home only preferred Single dog home Dog friendly Good w/cats Requires a fence Housetrained Good in cars Cori is a sweet beagle girl with an adorable underbite. She was obviously very much loved in her previous home, but sadly, her mom passed away. Now, at 8 years old, Cori is looking for a forever home where she can be spoiled again. An adult-only home where she can have ample time to settle in would be best for Cori. She would prefer a quiet lifestyle (no cities or busy neighborhoods for Cori) and would like to be the only dog in the household. That being said, Cori enjoys her visits to doggy daycare where she can socialize with other dogs. Cori also does well with cats. Cori will thrive in a home where she has a regular routine and will be walked daily so her beagle nose can be used to its fullest potential. She’s house trained, but she doesn’t potty on leash, so a fenced yard is a must. Car rides with Cori are a breeze – she’s the perfect passenger when it’s time to hit the road! Because Cori was displaying some behavior that we wanted to better understand, we sent her to a certified professional dog trainer. Cori was already on medication for general anxiety, and she underwent thorough behavioral and medical evaluations to determine if there was something else that was affecting her behavior. We discovered that Cori’s underbite was causing a lot of jaw pain, and her discomfort was affecting how she interacted with the world. Since starting daily anti-inflammatory medication, Cori has bloomed beautifully. According to her trainer, she now has a good appetite and is a “total foodie.” Her confidence has increased, she’s more playful and more at ease meeting new people, and she has learned to ignore distractions while she’s on leash. Best of all, Cori is now ready to find her new forever home. If Cori seems like the beagle buddy you’ve been looking for, please contact Midwest BREW to learn more about her. COOKIE (female) 7 years Attributes: Likes car rides Good with kids over 4 yrs House trained Likes cats Dog friendly Medium energy Will potty on leash Cookie is a beautiful lemon Beagle who just turned 7 years old on Dec 28th. She is 27 pounds of snuggle bug extraordinaire!! She does NOT like being alone but will tolerate for a couple of hours. Gets along with other dogs but doesn't engage in play. Lives with 4 resident cats in her foster home with no issues. She is house trained and will potty on leash while enjoying her walks in the woods. Loves to have her head out the car window for a bit then lays down in the seat to rest. Story
ARROW 4 years Attributes Dog friendly Needs another dog Snuggly Playful Likes car rides Working on housetraining High energy Hi, my name is Arrow. I’m approximately 4 years old and 22 pounds. I’m searching for a family to spoil and pamper me at all times of the day and night. In return I promise to give lots of beagle kisses, cuddles, playfulness and entertaining beagle antics. I love to be picked up, carried around, snuggled and given lots of back scratches and belly rubs. My foster mom says I’m the most affectionate beagle she’s ever had. I do love my humans! If you want to become my permanent human, you will have to say goodbye to your personal space. I follow foster mom all around the house and whine if I can’t be in the same room with her. I could use a little help with my separation anxiety, but I am a real sweetheart. I can’t stress enough how much I love to snuggle and give kisses. I am great with other dogs. I’m even happy to share my human’s lap with other dogs. I just squeeze myself right in there and get some snuggles from both my human and my beagle sibling. I would really enjoy having another energetic young dog to play chase and bitey-face with me. I LOVE to run and play. My favorite toys are stuffies – durable ones or else I shred them. Stealing socks and slippers is one of my many talents. Foster Mom says now that I know I’m safe, I’m reliving my puppy days. I do not like crates. During the day, I do NOT like to be away from my humans as it makes me anxious. I would not do well with long periods of alone time. At night I sleep in the big bed with the humans. I am a great car rider. I am still working on potty training. This is another area where I would be helped by having another dog in the house to show me the ropes. I am quite the follower and like to do what the other dogs do. I’m generally submissive towards other dogs. Please consider becoming my lifelong human family. Love and kisses, Arrow.
