Story
Salsa is a 6-year-old Terrier blend who recently returned to our care after her beloved owner passed away. At about 35 pounds, she's the perfect size and comes with a big personality packed into a compact package. This confident, active girl is full of life and enjoys engaging with her people. She is attentive, makes great eye contact, and clearly enjoys working with and learning from her handler. During a recent training session, Salsa practiced leash walking and worked on skills such as "sit" and waiting politely at doors. She caught on quickly and responded wonderfully to praise, showing that she's eager to learn and please.Salsa loves to play and has a preference for rubber and hard toys over plush ones. Fetch is one of her favorite games, and she's quite talented at catching toys in midair! She's also happy to entertain herself, spending time playing with a wobble ball, or other independent toys. With her intelligence, confidence, and playful spirit, Salsa would be a wonderful companion for someone looking for an active dog who enjoys both learning and having fun. She's ready to start her next chapter with a family who will cherish her as much as she deserves. If you're looking for a smart, engaging companion with plenty of personality, Salsa may be the perfect match for you! She does have some allergies and is currently on Apoquel. To get started in the process of meeting Salsa, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, and then come by the Adoption Center to meet with one of our adoption counselors. No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Jepp may be tiny, but he’s packed with personality. This little firecracker has opinions, boundaries, and a whole lot of charm once you earn his trust. He can be snappy and temperamental with new people, but after a few slow, positive meetings (three is his magic number) he turns into a loving, loyal, toy‑tossing goofball. Jepp loves to play and has plenty of energy, but he also has a soft and snuggly side. He has some quirks, including occasional resource guarding, so he needs a home with adults or older teens who can read his body language and respect his space. Jepp would do best as the only pet in the home and will happily soak up all of your attention. Because he can be reactive to unfamiliar people and noises, Jepp will likely do best in a house rather than an apartment, with adopters who understand that slow introductions and patience are the keys to helping him shine. Jepp has been waiting over a year for someone who sees past his tough‑guy exterior and believes in the sweet dog underneath. If you’re ready to take a chance on a small dog with a big personality, Jepp is more than ready to meet you! Adoption Requirements: Behavior consult, only dog in home, teens 13+ His adoption fee is $260 and includes the following: -Spay/neuter surgery -All current vaccinations -Microchip -FREE wellness exam through VCA Animal Hospitals -$25 gift voucher from our friends at My Pet Market

Story
Unagi is a part of our Bento Box Crew that we saved from a horrendous hoarding case at the beginning of the year. Unagi has been in foster the last few months and has blossomed into the most amazing dog. He is now ready to share that with a family of his own! A snapshot of Unagi: 🥰 Sweet, friendly and affectionate with whoever he meets 💤 Loves cuddling and taking naps in your lap 🐕 Extremely dog-friendly with big and small dogs, has excellent manners, can keep up with all types of play and is respectful of dogs who do not want to engage in play. ✅ House, crate and doggy door trained 🌟 Growing in his confidence thanks to his foster siblings Unagi would love an active home that can keep up with his youthful and spunky spirit with a fellow furry sibling. He’d benefit from a home that can continue some basic structure, routine and training. If you could be the fit for Unagi, fill out an application!

Story
Meet Papi, a sweet little gentleman with a big heart and excellent manners at 11 years young and 20 lbs, this Rat Terrier mix is the definition of easy living. Papi loves people just the right amount—happy to hang out, happy to snooze nearby, and especially happy to cuddle when it’s bedtime. He’s a champion sleeper who will gladly match your sleep-in schedule. Papi is generally a laid-back guy, but don’t let that fool you—walks and car rides are his JAM. He gets adorably excited when it’s time to head out, then settles into a nice, relaxed stroll (even easier when he’s walking solo). At home, he’s a total potty-training rockstar, uses the doggie door like a pro, and allows all handling with zero fuss. He’s lived peacefully with other dogs and mostly ignores them on walks, though cats are a no-thank-you for Papi. Toys are still a mystery to him, but he’s curious about crinkly ones and might discover his playful side with a little encouragement. Papi would thrive in a calm, loving home where he can enjoy daily walks, cozy cuddles, and all the love he so clearly deserves. Looking for a mellow best friend with a sweet soul and a cute little strut? Papi’s ready to meet you. Story
Meet Ita!  Ita is a tiny but mighty Wiredhair Terrier. Ita is extremely smart and picks up on cues quickly. She watches you for guidance and thrives on praise. She loves tummy rubs and cuddles. It is funny to watch her pounce after flying bugs in the backyard as well as run and leap.  Ita plays tug of war with her toys and chases her ball. Ita plays hard then rests like a little angel cuddled in her bed. Ita gets excited for her morning walk and struts with confidence through the neighborhood. She walks well on a leash and keeps up with the pace of other dogs. As she walks, she observes her surroundings and makes protective growls/barks. She has made a great deal of progress in minimizing her barking when visitor enter the house.  In addition, Ita is responding well to the cue of a training clicker and the following commands: sit, drop it, down, and out (to keep her out of the busy section of the kitchen). Ita is working hard at getting potty trained, and knows she is typically given a treat when she goes on the grass. In case you forget, she will enter the home and point you towards the treat jar.  Ita and her sister, Gigi, enjoy each other, play well together, and keep each other company. Watching them wrestle and chase after each other is extremely entertaining, and I can’t imagine them not being together.  We have a larger female dog, and both Ita and Gigi get along well with her. It is our hope to home them together as a bonded pair. If interested please fill out an adoption application on valleydogs.org or email the following contact: adopt@valleydogs.org (Adoption fee is 500 for both dogs)

Story
My Personality : Playful, Curious, Goofy Meet Gigi! Gigi is a beautiful Wiredhair Terrier who is playful and entertaining. She loves to play with her toys and especially attends to finding and chasing her ball. Her playful nature is fun to watch, as she runs and leaps in the backyard and collect sticks. When she finishes playing, she enjoys a good snuggle nap in her bed. Even when she sleeps, she is fun to watch. Gigi enjoys her morning walks and sniffing around. She walks nicely on a leash and is excited when she sees you take out the leash. She enjoys a cuddle hug and tummy rubs. She is learning these basic commands: drop it, sit, and out (to stay out of the busy kitchen area). She responds well to a clicker for training as well as mini treats. She is working hard at getting potty trained and enjoys the praise when she goes outside on the grass. Gigi and her sister, Ita, enjoy each other, play well together, and keep each other company. Watching them wrestle and chase after each other is extremely entertaining, and I can’t imagine them not being together. We have a larger female dog, and both Gigi and Ita get along well with her.
