Story
LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY. Peabody is a 2-year-old Rat Terrier mix (we think). He was pulled into our rescue from an over-crowded, rural, KY shelter because he was not tolerating the environment well and was shut down. He was terrified when first arriving at his fosters home. It took time…but not much. We have video evidence that he is a Velcro mix. He likes dogs about his size, but gets passive-aggressive with bigger dogs. Meaning he runs his mouth. He would have no problem with another, playful dog or being the one-and-only. He likes to watch TV on the couch, beside you, with his eyes closed. He will be the big spoon every night and knows how to fit perfectly into the small of your back. Peabody will likely need the expected 3 days to decompress in a new environment. But once he has stopped fretting, he’ll be melting like butter in your lap. We think Peabody needs to find that doesn’t require transport, so applications must be local to TN. I need to be adopted in Crossville, Tennessee. FOCCAS is a foster based, non-profit rescue in Crossville, TN. The adoption fee Includes Age-Appropriate Vaccinations (DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies), Deworming, Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Flea/Tick/Heartworm Prevention, and Sheltering. Adult Dogs are Heartworm Tested and Treated as Needed. FOCCAS does not DNA test or guarantee breed. Peabody's adoption fee is $300.If transport is needed, there are additional fees to cover department of agriculture requirements and transport, the additional fee adds $300 to the adoption fee (any location out of Tennessee, East Coast, Great Lakes or New England regions)Thank You for Your Interest in Adopting a Canine Companion from Foccas-tn.org!To Apply Please Copy and Paste to your browser:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=hb2428&method=online_form_html&formid=41

Story
For nearly a year, Matilda has been waiting 🥲 She was found running the streets and eventually brought in by animal control. When she came to us, she was so scared and shut down that it was hard to see the dog underneath all that fear. Honestly, sometimes it still is. Matilda’s world is very small right now. Her crate is her safe place, and that’s where she spends most of her time. She isn’t going to run up to greet you or jump in your lap. A hand reaching toward her can still be scary. If things move too quickly, she’ll run. And if she can’t get away, she freezes and shakes, just hoping she can get back to her crate. But there is another Matilda. Shes the little dog who will carefully take a treat from your hand. Every once in a while, she’ll decide that sitting next to you isn’t quite so scary and let you scratch her ears for a few seconds. She LOVES chicken nuggets and has been caught sneaking out of her safe spot to investigate an unattended plate. She’s also a toy hoarder. When she thinks no one is watching, she’ll collect toys and make herself a little stash. And then there’s Matilda with other dogs. That’s when we see the most change. Her tail comes out and starts wagging. She follows her dog friends around, watches what they do, and seems so much more comfortable just having them nearby. We really believe there’s a happy, playful little dog in there. She just needs someone who is willing to give her the time and space to find her way out. She needs someone who understands that her progress may look different than it does with other dogs. We know adopting her won’t be easy. She will need patience, understanding, and someone who is willing to celebrate the little victories. But after nearly a year of waiting, we want her to have more than a safe place to stay. We want her to have a home. Matilda is looking for a forever family who: Will let her move at her own pace and never rush her Has another friendly, confident dog to help show her that the world isn’t so scary Has a securely fenced yard. The outdoors is still very overwhelming for her, and she is an extreme flight risk. Leash walks are not something she is ready for right now. If you think you can provide the best home for this sweet girl, please apply. We believe as her caretakers she deserves a chance! She’s waited long enough. Matilda is a 1-2 year old Rat Terrier, she weighs around 22lbs. We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.
