EJ is a fun, young hound. He needs someone active, with a big outdoor life that will take him on adventures. He is affectionate and loyal to those who show him love. He would prefer to be the only dog as he doesn't like to share. He is not good with cats or other smaller animals or small people. Story
Say hello to happy-go-lucky Waylen! This happy hound boy was brought to us as a stray and is looking for a home to call his own! Waylen is a very talkative pup, and loves to run around the yard to play or sniff. He will need some work on his leash manners as he gets very excited when he is out and about and tends to pull on the leash. He does significantly better when on a harness and would do best walking on that compared to a collar. Waylen is very treat motivated, and very smart and will be excited to learn more with a patient owner! At this time Waylen knows sit, paw with both feet, and down! His favorite toy has been anything that makes noises and that he can chase around the yard! Waylen has been picky with the dogs he befriends and would do better as the only dog in the home or with a calm, non-reactive dog. He is very interested in cats, and may not be the best fit for any feline friends. We would be happy to cat-test Waylen further upon request. This happy boy has done amazing with kids! He is very respectful and gentle with children of all sizes and would not mind having young human friends in his forever home! If you would like to meet Waylen and potentially welcome him into your home, stop by and visit with him today! Waylen is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Availability date: 08/09/2023

Story
Copper was surrendered to the shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. Copper is a 3-year-old, Redbone coonhound that currently weighs 53 pounds. He is a very handsome, but very energetic guy! He has never lived inside a house; with his previous family he lived in the barn with a kennel run. He will need someone that understands that he will need to learn what living in a home is all about. He is an outgoing guy that does jump up when excited but is working on this here at the shelter. Copper has never been around children and may be too much for small children, so an age restriction for children in the home may apply, please discuss this with shelter staff. Copper is a happy guy that would love to find his loving forever home soon! A knowledge of hounds would be best for his future family. He has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, Heartworm/Lyme tested, and microchipped since his arrival at the shelter. Story
Let’s help Olive find her forever home! She’s a 15 month old Hound mix. She currently lives with 2 dogs and 2 young children. She is about 50lbs, she is fully house trained, crate trained, knows basic commands, up to date on vaccines, and she is spayed. She is a huge cuddler and very affectionate! She is also a ball of energy so she needs a backyard she can run around in or someone who could frequently take her on walks to tire her out. She can be protective over her people so a house with not a whole lot of people in and out would be best.

Story
Dalia is a one-year old, 40 lbs red hound mix.  She is very sweet and curious.  She is good with other dogs and all people.  (She will chase cats - not aggressively but annoyingly so we recommend a cat-free home). She is good in the car and likes to go on walks.  Dalia has had a hard life - she was shot in the face, side and foot (her owner was trying to kill her) Remarkably, she survived and will be just fine.  If ever a dog deserved a second chance, it's this girl.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 19, 2023, 12:13 am

Story
Ralph is a beautiful 6 year old redbone coonhound.    He *loves* playing at the dog park. He is a fundamentally kind and gentle dog.  He is house trained and crate trained. He needs some leash training, as most hounds do.  He's good with kids.  Not a jumper.  Not aggressive.  He would love a yard to explore.  Would make a great hiking partner.   Ralph loves to nap, too!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 19, 2023, 12:13 am

Story
Ranger, approximately 1 year old and 35 pounds, is a people-friendly pup who enjoys the company of kids, even as young as 9. He plays harmoniously with dogs of various ages and sizes, ranging from 1 to 11 years old and 30 to 125 pounds. While not particularly interested in the barn cat, his compatibility with household cats is uncertain. Accustomed to cattle and horses, he generally ignores them. Overnight, he comfortably sleeps in his crate, displaying affection for it. Together with his brother, they relish porch swing evenings, engaging in activities like chasing balls and wrestling. Ranger understands basic commands but requires some leash and recall training, typical of a puppy. His strong hound instincts make him motivated by treats, and he's a resilient survivor, rescued in Texas after being abandoned. Ideally, he and his brother find a home together, but separate adoptions are also possible. He’s anxiously awaiting transport from Texas to his furever or foster home up north!  DISCLAIMER- Breed type is determined based on general appearance and behavioral characteristics and cannot be guaranteed unless DNA test results or AKC registration were provided at intake. ***MOST OF OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN TEXAS, BUT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT OUT OF STATE. Read below for more information. Our dogs are transported to a predetermined location agreed upon by the rescue. The adoption contract and fee are finalized prior to transport. As a Pep's Pals Rescue direct adoption, the adoption interview/meet and greet occurs on video call (Skype, FB Messenger call, Facetime, etc).  Our adoption fee is $350 plus health certificate and transport (varies by location). This fee includes all current vaccinations, deworming, microchip (additional $12.99 registration fee required at time of adoption), fecal analysis, spay/neuter for dogs 6 months & older, and a heartworm test if over 6 months old. All dogs are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. A health exam will be completed and a health certificate issued by a veterinarian within 10 days of transport. Barney is an affectionate, sweet boy. Probably not a year old and loves to play. He has that wonderful hound voice but he's not obsessive with it. He does well with other dogs, he's not familiar with cats but plays to hard with chickens. He's very smart and has learned a few basic commands. He would be a loyal companion for a little love. Story
We saw sweet Ginny on Facebook. She was a stray that ended up in a high kill shelter in Virginia. Shortly after she arrived she gave birth to 4 puppies. The shelter had no idea that she was pregnant because she was nothing but skin and bones. We knew we somehow had to get her here to Tennessee so we put our thinking caps on and a lot of wonderful volunteers drove her to our pick up spot in southern VA where our regular transporter picked her and the babies up on his way back to Nashville. We met them in Nashville at 1 AM and drove the family 100 miles back to the rescue. We knew Ginny was young, possibly still a pup herself and our vet confirmed that she was only 11 months at the time of the puppy's birth. Her pups have all been adopted and now it's Ginny's turn! Walker Hounds are very high energy dogs and can be a little stubborn so make sure you research the breed before you make the choice to adopt. We insist on a fenced yard for her so she can have room to free run and enjoy the rest of her life. These dogs are the number one dumped off breed as their owners will desert them if they don't hunt the way they want them too! We have several of them here at the rescue for that very reason. They are fun loving couch potatoes and will bring you many years of joy and happiness! PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE $650
