Story
We have had him since he was a puppy and he grew up with our pug so he seems to act like he is a small breed dog and doesn’t understand his size. He was born outside, but prefers to be indoors like our pug as well as wants to be in our bed, on your lap and will trample our little children without hesitation due to his size and stature. He really means well and would do best with someone who can give him all the undivided attention he craves as well as an environment without small children or cats. He already hurt one of our kids unintentionally as well as attacked and eaten a neighbor’s cat that wandered into our yard one day, plus we are moving to a smaller house as well as having another baby so we just can’t have him around anymore because he has become more of a hazard in our home.

Story
Rocky is a friendly, happy, and snuggly dog who is always eager to meet new people. His positive energy is evident in everything he does, and he’s an absolute love bug who thrives on attention and affection. Here’s a breakdown of his current behavior and some important notes: Body Language: Rocky passes by kennels and play yards with confident and good body language. He is relaxed and comfortable around other dogs. Leash Behavior: Rocky is always excited to go for walks! He does tend to pull on the leash, but we’ve worked with him a bit and he’s made noticeable improvements. With continued training, he’ll become even better on walks. Training: Rocky is very smart and already knows how to “sit” on command. He’s eager to learn and always happy to engage during training sessions. Size: Rocky is a big guy! His head is about hip-height on me, and he has large, sturdy feet. He’s got the presence of a big, strong dog, but his sweet demeanor is his true charm. Snack Time: Rocky can be a bit jumpy when it comes to snacks, but his enthusiasm is just part of his lovable nature. Personality: This guy is handsome and snuggly—he absolutely loves attention, and all of us gave him some love, which he happily accepted and enjoyed. His kennel tech loves him too, and it’s clear that Rocky has a lot of love to give. Escape Artist: Rocky is quite the clever guy! He can scale a 6ft tall wooden plank fence, so he should never be left outside unsupervised unless he’s on a tether or in a covered kennel. This makes him a great candidate for agility sports! With his intelligence and athleticism, he’d thrive in that type of environment. Overall, Rocky is a sweet, affectionate, and energetic dog who just needs some guidance and supervision in the right home. He’s ready to bring joy and love to a family who can match his excitement and energy.

Story
Jax is a handsome Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a heart full of love and a bit of shyness that makes him uniquely endearing. At first glance, Jax may appear reserved, especially around unfamiliar faces or in new environments. While he’s not one to rush into social situations, his friendly nature shines through once he feels comfortable. With time, patience, and a little encouragement, Jax warms up to new people and situations, showing off his playful side and eagerness for affection. Jax enjoys outdoor activities like walks or playing in the yard, though he might need a moment to settle into new surroundings before fully engaging. His calm demeanor makes him an ideal companion for a relaxed home.

Catahoula Leopard Dog Mixed Breed (Medium)

Stephenville, TX
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Not good with kids, Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Julie was surrendered because she was no longer wanted. As you may be able to tell from her eyes, she does have some visual impairments that she has likely had since birth. She is still opening up here at the shelter and is extremely skittish. She will try and squeeze past you once the kennel is open. She is sweet once she realizes you're there to give her love. She will take time getting used to you and a new environment. She pulls on a leash. She is able to scale chain link fences, so she will need a secure fence and possibly not be left outside for too long. She did good with our dogs during testing but since she is high energy and visually impaired, some dogs may not like her being in their space. We do always highly recommend a meet and greet with any current household dogs. We do not recommend smaller dogs or cats. She will need to be fed separately as she has shown food aggression towards dogs. She does show some barrier aggression with strangers and dogs. Julie is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and heartworm negative and on prevention.

Quartz

Catahoula Leopard Dog Australian Cattle Dog

Female, 5 yrs 3 mos
Stephenville, TX
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Quartz was found as a stray in 2023 and not claimed, then adopted in 2024 and returned after a few weeks because she was not getting along with the other dogs. She is a lean girl that prefers any kind of people food to dog food, and she does not finish a meal usually. Her fosters made a note that she doesn't really eat her dry food unless it is mixed in with wet food. She is a counter surfer, and will get into the trash to find herself some treats. Her previous name was "Shenzi" which she does respond to. She has done okay with dogs in passing in a calmer setting, but has been dog reactive at the shelter and did not do well in a home with other dogs. She is a very sweet lady and is very high energy. She knows "sit" and "shake." She will tear her way out of a crate if she is left unsupervised in one. She loves going on car rides and being able to stick her head out of the window. She loves being outside with her people, but if left unattended she will jump a fence. Her fosters said that she never barked while she was with them. Quartz would do best in an only pet home. Quartz loves cuddles. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative (also on prevention). All adoptions are first come first serve the day of availability. ECHS does not reserve available animals for the public for any reason. Please note that availability is subject to change at any point in time per ECHS discretion.

Catahoula Leopard Dog Mixed Breed (Medium)

Female, 3 yrs 7 mos
Stephenville, TX
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Not good with kids, Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Bella was adopted from us back in 2022 and returned due to her jumping their fences and running in the road. She is a very sweet and energetic dog. She is very anxious here and does not like being cooped up. Her previous adopters stated she is a very good dog who loves other dogs and playing. She can jump fences and will need a tall privacy fence if she is going to be left outside unsupervised. She has never met a stranger and does good with kids. She does pull on a leash and is said not to do well in crates. She does not do well with cats as she chases them and it is unknown how she is with livestock. She does well in cars but if the window is rolled down too far, she will jump out through them. Her previous owners stated she is treat motivated. Bella has received her DHPP and Bordetella vaccines. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention. Her adopters will need to get her a rabies vaccine.
