Story
Meet my sweet 3-year-old Rottweiler—a loyal, loving companion who truly just wants to be close to his person. He’s the kind of dog who will follow you from room to room, happy just to be by your side, and always ready for a walk, some playtime, or a cozy spot to relax near you. He has a gentle, affectionate nature with the people he trusts and forms strong bonds with his family. He’s smart, attentive, and thrives when he has structure, consistency, and someone who understands and appreciates the Rottweiler breed. He would do best in a home where he can feel secure and comfortable, ideally with someone who enjoys dogs and can give him the time, attention, and positive environment he deserves. Like many dogs, he picks up on energy around him, and he truly shines in a calm, dog-friendly home. This is a really special dog with so much love to give—he just needs the right match where he can be his best, happiest self.

Adoption Event Schedule Events run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM every month at these locations: 2nd Saturday, Sacramento - Pet Food Express 3rd Saturday, Modesto - Strand Hardware Store 4th Saturday, Roseville - Pet Food Express Please visit the GCGSR Rescue Page for specific address information. All of our dogs are in foster homes and not in one single kennel location.  Adoption events is the best way to meet several of our dogs at once. Danny is a senior boy estimated to be 12 years old, mostly black without a tail.  He came from a local shelter with no history of his past.  He must have led a hard life, as he was missing much of his fur from an apparent flea allergy, had an eye infection and bad ear infections.  He’s received several baths and the vet packed his ears (while he was sedated) and sent medicine for his eyes and he’s already showing improvement.  Because his ears are packed, he doesn’t hear well and may have some age related hearing loss too. Danny is sharing the foster home with a senior alumni girl (Grandma Belle) and does great with her.  He doesn’t do well alone, so having another dog in the home with him is key. He was brought to an event with several other dogs (mostly German Shepherds) of all ages and he ignored them all. Danny walks well on leash, but doesn’t require a lot of exercise.  He’s a little unsteady of his feet. When he was new to us, he didn’t want to get into the car.  After several trips with nothing horrible happening, he now gets in the car willingly.  Housebreaking is a work in progress.  He’s doing well living in a home with a cat. Danny is an easy dog to have around and would like to have a new forever home for the holidays. Small critters unknown. Level 2  Understanding Dog Levels Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Go to our home page for an explanation of the Dog Rating Levels. Additional Adoption Information For more information and to see when this dog will be attending an Adoption Day, please see our Dogs page on our main website. (Adoption Process) We operate within a reasonable driving distance from the Greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley down to Merced, and Lake Tahoe. A reasonable driving distance is determined by where one of our volunteers is willing to drive within our areas of service. That means we don't adopt out of our area, to Southern California, or out of state. Puppy Requirements We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy or email us at info@gcgsr.org for more information. Thank you for visiting! March 10, 2026, 4:54 am

Story
You haven’t seen anything til you’ve seen Palo Santo walking down the street with a stuffed corn cob ?? in his mouth—ears flopping up and down, eyes shining bright. Adorable yet also handy, it’s a technique to keep Palo from biting the leash like a toy, instead redirecting that urge to an actual plaything. And he catches on immediately to it, as soon as you show him what to do. Once he’s in a stable home with regular exercise, away from the stresses of the shelter, he will likely grow out of this habit. And then you’ll just have a really cute dog walking down the street with a stuffy in his mouth! This very good boy also knows some of the basic commands and he’s a very willing student to learn more; he just needs somebody to believe in him and give him that consistency and patience that he deserves! His other very cute habit is chasing shadows, though he’ll need some help to make sure it doesn’t become obsessive-compulsive. It’s possible someone played with him with a laser pointer at one point in his life but that can create a deep feeling of dissatisfaction in animals, as they try to catch something they’ll never achieve.Palo Santo has potential to live with other dogs; while staff had to try a few times before they found a suitable match for him, it’s not clear whether that was Palo or the dogs he was being introduced to meet. He has shown on a few occasions that he is respectful and politely communicative with both male and female dogs—and then he just wants to play! He does not have leash reactivity and he met other dogs calmly through a fence, too. If you do have other dogs at home, it is always recommended to conduct slow, integrated introductions.Palo Santo is an extremely handsome boy with the sweetest face and a really goofy side that comes out pretty quickly. Come meet him today!Palo Santo`s adoption fee has been paid for with a donation from Tim Pantle
