Story
Meet my sweet 3-year-old Rottweiler—a loyal, loving companion who truly just wants to be close to his person. He’s the kind of dog who will follow you from room to room, happy just to be by your side, and always ready for a walk, some playtime, or a cozy spot to relax near you. He has a gentle, affectionate nature with the people he trusts and forms strong bonds with his family. He’s smart, attentive, and thrives when he has structure, consistency, and someone who understands and appreciates the Rottweiler breed. He would do best in a home where he can feel secure and comfortable, ideally with someone who enjoys dogs and can give him the time, attention, and positive environment he deserves. Like many dogs, he picks up on energy around him, and he truly shines in a calm, dog-friendly home. This is a really special dog with so much love to give—he just needs the right match where he can be his best, happiest self.

Story
Waffles is a wonderful girl. We rescued her as a puppy and she is about 1 and a half years old. She loves to play, run, go for walks and heading to the dog park to play with other dogs. She is formally trained (went to a professional dog trainer when she was about 6 months old). She comes to her name understands commands: sit, down, place, here. Unfortunately our 2 house cats have a hard time with Waffles and we have to find a new, loving home for her. She is a fun, energetic, beautiful young dog and it is very sad for our family to have to rehome her. I am happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Story
Gigi is a very special dog! She is a 1.5 years old, spayed, vaccinated, and docked purebred Rottweiler. She is special needs due to a rare autoimmune condition. She was found as a stray in Modesto in poor health. The shelter did not know what was wrong with her, but they knew she needed more help than they could give, so she was set to be euthanized. Thankfully, our rescue stepped in, took her into our care, and got her the help she needs. Our vet diagnosed her with entropion (inverted eyelashes) causing almost total blindness and severe cranial muscle atrophy caused by a rare autoimmune condition called Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM) that was left untreated for the first year of her life. After thousands of dollars in treatments and multiple surgeries including the insertion of permanent contacts into her eyes, Gigi can finally see! She has made a full recovery. Gigi is still special needs. She cannot open her mouth more than an inch high, so she is at an increased risk of choking and needs to be monitored with toys. She also has been isolated from the outside world for months while in recovery, so she is still learning about the world around her and how to socialize with new dogs. She is currently dog selective, she gets along with friendly dogs that respect her space. She has not been tested with children or cats.

Adoption Event Schedule Events run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM every month at these locations: 2nd Saturday, Sacramento - Pet Food Express 3rd Saturday, Modesto - Strand Hardware Store 4th Saturday, Roseville - Pet Food Express Please visit the GCGSR Rescue Page for specific address information. All of our dogs are in foster homes and not in one single kennel location.  Adoption events is the best way to meet several of our dogs at once. Danny is a senior boy estimated to be 12 years old, mostly black without a tail.  He came from a local shelter with no history of his past.  He must have led a hard life, as he was missing much of his fur from an apparent flea allergy, had an eye infection and bad ear infections.  He’s received several baths and the vet packed his ears (while he was sedated) and sent medicine for his eyes and he’s already showing improvement.  Because his ears are packed, he doesn’t hear well and may have some age related hearing loss too. Danny is sharing the foster home with a senior alumni girl (Grandma Belle) and does great with her.  He doesn’t do well alone, so having another dog in the home with him is key. He was brought to an event with several other dogs (mostly German Shepherds) of all ages and he ignored them all. Danny walks well on leash, but doesn’t require a lot of exercise.  He’s a little unsteady of his feet. When he was new to us, he didn’t want to get into the car.  After several trips with nothing horrible happening, he now gets in the car willingly.  Housebreaking is a work in progress.  He’s doing well living in a home with a cat. Danny is an easy dog to have around and would like to have a new forever home for the holidays. Small critters unknown. Level 2  Understanding Dog Levels Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Go to our home page for an explanation of the Dog Rating Levels. Additional Adoption Information For more information and to see when this dog will be attending an Adoption Day, please see our Dogs page on our main website. (Adoption Process) We operate within a reasonable driving distance from the Greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley down to Merced, and Lake Tahoe. A reasonable driving distance is determined by where one of our volunteers is willing to drive within our areas of service. That means we don't adopt out of our area, to Southern California, or out of state. Puppy Requirements We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy or email us at info@gcgsr.org for more information. Thank you for visiting! March 10, 2026, 4:54 am
