ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home. In some cases, we can help transport. All dogs are located in NY/NJ area All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too. Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate! If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet. It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Alfalfa has so many meanings. To horse people alfalfa is a rich and green leafy food :) To dog people, Alfalfa, means ME!!! I have not lead the most "leafy" life though. I was FINALLY saved from an extreme hoarding situation - I was waiting my whole life to leave that "life" behind!! And I am SO grateful to the ladies who have taken over a year to save 65 of the 87 dogs I lived with AND are still working to get more out! I am a shy when u first meet me, but don't let that de-suade you! I will warm up and you will be so so grateful that you gave me the time to open up to you and show you my steady and grateful side, I am more of a loner than a lot of hoarding dogs are, I actually would be fine with or without another dog or cat. I am slow to trust but once I trust you I am a quiet and loving companion :) Only on my terms. I have been through a lot and just need the most wonderful, patient, laid back and quiet family!! Just like the classic debate- Left Twix versus Right Twix... both sides together ARE THE BEST! Just like a Twix bar, I am super sweet, a little salty, and really ooey gooey! I was found when I was only 10 months old and brought to God’s Dogs Rescue. I was adopted shortly after but returned due to being a snarky teenager and showing tenacity and energy common with my breeds. Training would have been key! Anyway, since coming back, I have spent almost **4.5 years** living on GDR's ranch property in Texas. I’ve been overlooked all this time and it’s time for that to change! I have now been in a foster home for a few months. It took some time to adjust to being indoors again but I have learned the wonders of ✨air conditioning✨. It also took time to adjust to “less dogs” but I‘m loving my newfound personal space. There are other dogs in my foster home but, at my age, I prefer dogs that match my low energy. I may even be fine as the only dog. Kids, same thing, I prefer ones that are old enough to respect my space and low energy. Certainly no cats or other small animals for me! I still have a tinge of that independent/stubborn streak from my youth but, at the end of the day, I am a BIG LOVER! I get so excited, wiggly, and bouncy with my foster mom. She gives the best scratches and I give the best hair tumbleweeds. I shed A LOT! While living at the rescue, they took great care of me...too good, honestly. I have become fat and happy but the weight has worn down on these ol’ joints. I am on a diet, limited treats, and I am getting joint supplements every day. I am a generally lazy guy but I am amazing on a leash and love to go on walks. More consistent exercise will help with my weight loss. I still have plenty of pep in my step (especially when I‘m on the hunt for squirrels) so don’t let my age or size fool you. I am so ready for my new AND FINAL home! I will melt your heart when you look into my caramel eyes and sweet, chocolatey soul. Don't hesitate, ADOPT ME!!
