Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Abby is a stunning Rottweiler that is estimated to be 2 1/2 years old and weighs 65lbs.  Abby and her puppies were surrendered to a rural shelter in August 2023 when the puppies were only 4 weeks old. Animal control did a welfare check and found Abby living outside in a pen with a huge sore around her neck from an embedded collar and the owners were unable to afford her medical care. One of our volunteers wanted to help immediately and agreed to foster Abby and her puppies. All of Abby's puppies have since been adopted, but it was clear that Abby had never been properly socialized or received any kind of training. She did great with her original foster with house manners and was friendly with people, but she lacked confidence and wasn't sure how to play, walk, or interact around other dogs. BFPA decided it would be best to send her to an eight-week positive reinforcement training program to help develop her confidence and learn how to be a "dog". We are happy to report that she did amazing in training and is ready for adoption! Feedback from her training is that Abby is loyal, loving, and eager to please. Her willingness to make her handler happy is unmatched. Abby has great recall, offers sits for permission and has done great with strangers in and out of the home. She is very food and treat motivated and takes treats gently and respectfully. She loves to work for her food! Abby has been conditioned to her crate and all she needs to do to be told "kennel up" with a finger point to the crate and she goes in. She sometimes can get stressed for being crated for long periods of time, so a home that doesn't have long working hours would be best for her. Abby's ideal home would also have a fenced in yard (but not required), a foster/ adopter that is willing to continue with her training which BFPA will help with, and no other pets. Abby is dog selective and seems to tolerate calm dogs her size or smaller, but she doesn't really show any interest in wanting to interact. Dogs that are higher energy, barky, or ones that show signs of anxiety/ nervousness tend to cause her to react. If there is another dog(s) in the home, we would have to evaluate if they are a good fit and be with someone that is experienced with dog behavior. Abby was tested with a kitty early on. While she wasn't aggressive with the cat, she did seem overly interested and we would need to make sure there was a way to keep the cat(s) separate until trusted. Abby has also lived with kids and would be ok with older children 12+ that are able to respect boundaries. Do you have the right home for Abby?  She wants to be part of a loving  family.  She has come a long way from her miserable life before Best Friend Pet Adoption saved her.  Could you provide a wonderful life for Abby?  She will give you plenty of love in return.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants ideally should  live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. We would also like to provide assistance in her training which would occur in the Raleigh area.  For the right match for Abby, we will consider applicants who live a bit further away.  INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ABBY? Story
BRANDI is ready for her forever home! She is about 72LBs, sweet and friendly once she warms up and feels comfortable. She is selective with dogs and prefers male dogs. We think she would do best in a home with just one adult or with a couple. Brandi is a great dog, but needs some training and exercise, and a safe place to call her own. Decompression time and a routine is really going to help this girl shine. She will make a great companion for someone with Rottie experience. Brandi is a 3 year old with a docked tail. ADOPTION DETAILS: Each dog is spayed, neutered, (unless medically on hold) up to date on shots, dewormed, and microchipped. At this time, due to the size of our rescue, adoptions are limited to NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA, VIRGINIA and +/-6 hours from Raleigh, NC. ADOPTION FEE: Our total adoption fee is $300, including a non-refundable $25 application fee. Fee can be paid using the "DONATE" button on our website (www.RottweilerHeartsRescue.org) - please indicate in the notes that it is for an application fee, and the intended dog.
