Story
CHARLIE - 1 Year & 10 months old, 75 + pounds, house trained, dog tolerant Charlie arrived at VBACAC after he started guarding important items from his family. He is a big boy, 75+ pounds, who has bright white teeth, deep black and tan fur and a great smile. Charlie is nervous with new people but warms up quickly. I met him in the playgroup yard and he almost immediately approached me, sniffed and started licking my hands.  Within a short time he would run to me after being pushed a bit too hard from another dog and sit on my feet leaning against me. He is young and needs training. We are doing some at the shelter and see this boy is eager to please you.  He's smart, loves to chase tennis balls, and loves toys. Puppies use their mouths a lot and Charlie is no different. The mouthiness can be managed with training, tug toy play and treats. He can be trusted free to roam with his family but is used to a crate when left alone. He is scared of loud noises and is known to guard items he finds important. The guarding can be managed as well by an owner willing to put time in training.  Charlie is dog tolerant. He does need some time getting used to other friendly well-balanced and respectful dogs. We are seeing him come out of his shell from scampering to a safe spot and growling if another dog gets too close to actually running, chasing, and playing with others. He also has moved from not allowing other dogs to sniff him to letting others get close and sniff.  Charlie is currently in a back kennel so if you come in to meet him and don't see him, please just ask. *Please do your research on Rottweilers and German Shepherds before considering adopting. Both have specific breed characteristics which you should make sure align with your family's lifestyle.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 15, 2025, 9:58 am

LONG TIME RESIDENT DALLAS IS READY TO MEET HIS NEW PERSON!    DALLAS - 3 years old, 100 pounds, house trained, enjoys walks. (His bday is April 22, 2022.)   Dallas was surrendered for following his person around the home... poor boy just wants company..    He does not like being behind cage bars. Who does?!?   Instead, Dallas would prefer hanging out with his people, going for walks, or going for a car ride and adventure.   He has lived with 6-year-old children with whom he was friendly and playful.    Dallas was allowed to roam free in his home when left alone.    He loves his own doggie bed and loves to play with any kind of toy, balls, frisbees, squeaky toys, and tug toys.    Dallas is hanging in a back kennel so if you come in to meet him and don't see him, please just ask.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 9, 2025, 9:36 am

Story
Athena is a 3-month-old Rottweiler mix who is looking for a patient and loving forever home. Though she’s still very young, Athena has already experienced a rough start in life and hasn’t always been shown the patience and understanding that every puppy deserves.Because of this, Athena would do best in a quieter home with a calm and patient adopter who can help her grow into her best self. With time, positive experiences, and gentle guidance, she will benefit greatly from socialization and confidence-building as she learns that the world can be a safe and happy place.Athena would likely do best in a home without young children, as she will need a lot of focused attention and support while she works through her past and continues to build trust. For the right person, Athena has the potential to form an incredibly deep and lasting bond. If you’re someone who is willing to give a young dog the patience, love, and guidance she needs to blossom, Athena could be the perfect companion for you.Come meet Athena and see if you might be the person she’s been waiting for.

Story
Missy is almost 5 years old. She was the runt of the litter. She is a great dog, very sweet and loves to be pet. She is house trained and crate trained. She doesn’t need a lot of activity but would love a walk to sniff. She likes treats but will take hostage of a bone. Unfortunately she has developed littermate syndrome to her sibling and has gotten aggressive towards them. I’ve been having to keep them separate which is getting impossible to do with 2 small children. Missy is great with our older dog and other dogs we meet. We feel this is in her best interest. She is so sweet and will be missed!

Story
Meet Buddy, a lovable 5-year-old Boxer mix with a heart as big as his adorable, expressive ears. Those ears are truly the cutest — always perked up and ready to listen, especially when you’re talking to him. His sweet, affectionate personality shines through in everything he does. Buddy can be dog selective, so he would do best as the only dog in the home or with calm introductions. He thrives when he has clear boundaries and structure. Buddy would do best in a household with older children who understand how to respect his space and allow him time to feel comfortable. This handsome boy is also quite the jumper! For his safety, he will need a home with a tall, secure fenced-in yard where he can play and stretch his legs without worry. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with personality, charm, and the cutest ears around, Buddy might just be your perfect match.

Story
Meet Champ, a sweet senior boy who was transferred to Norfolk SPCA all the way from Tennessee in hopes of finding his forever family here. He’s ready for a fresh start and a cozy place to call home. Don’t let the “senior” title fool you — Champ is super playful and absolutely loves spending time with his toys. He still has plenty of pep in his step and would happily join you for a morning trip to the dog park before heading home to nap the day away while you binge-watch your favorite TV shows. The best of both worlds. Champ does have a little wear and tear that comes with age and experience. Champ is would love to meet other dogs and children. He is eager to settle in and be someone’s loyal companion. If you’re looking for a fun-loving senior who can balance playtime with serious couch time, Champ just might be your guy.

Story
Big Boy. Big Heart. Big Cuddles. Meet Bear.   Bear is the kind of dog people dream about finding. He’s healthy, well-mannered, deeply loyal, and full of love—he simply needs a new home because his family is relocating and sadly cannot take him with them.Born August 25, 2023, this handsome 90-pound Boxer boy is the total package. His parents are AKC registered Boxers, and while Bear isn’t registered himself, he has all the best qualities of the breed. He is neutered, microchipped, fully housebroken, and wonderfully smart. Bear will even let you know when it’s time to go outside—or when bedtime has arrived.   Bear’s personality is where he truly shines. Every morning starts the same way: a giant Bear hug. He absolutely adores his family and believes the best place in the world is curled up close to his favorite humans. Despite his size, he is convinced he’s a lap dog and will happily drape himself across you for cuddle time.   While he loves his family endlessly, Bear is a little reserved when meeting new people and likes to take things slow. Busy environments and crowded stores aren’t really his style. He currently lives on a farm and enjoys the calmer side of life where he can focus on what matters most—his people.   With other dogs, Bear is a social butterfly. He enjoys canine friends and especially loves playing chase in the yard or at the dog park. Toys aren’t really his thing, but he will occasionally chew on a bone and then happily stretch out on his bed for a long nap.   Bear is great with children and other dogs, listens well, and already knows his basic commands. He rides nicely in the car and enjoys going on walks with his family.   At the end of the day, Bear is exactly what his name suggests—a big, lovable teddy bear who thrives on companionship and loyalty. The perfect home for Bear will appreciate his affectionate nature, give him time to warm up to new people, and enjoy having a devoted best friend by their side.   If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a huge heart and an even bigger cuddle factor, Bear may be the perfect dog for you.   To learn more or apply to adopt Bear, please emailCritter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 10, 2026, 12:49 am
