Story
Sheila is the kind of dog who quietly becomes the heart of your home. Her days start with a stroll around the garden, followed by helping supervise breakfast and school lunches. Once the house clears out, she’s ready for her favorite part of the day: a long morning walk at the park. Sheila is friendly with every dog she meets and greets people with an easy, gentle confidence. The only thing that can derail her calm demeanor? Squirrels. Those are serious business. After her walk and breakfast, Sheila settles into a relaxed work-from-home routine, spending most of the afternoon napping nearby. When the kids come home from school, she happily greets them, then later heads out for another long walk in the afternoon. In the evenings, she prefers cool tile floors and has carefully chosen a spot where she can keep an eye on the whole household. When it’s time for bed, Sheila often walks into her crate on her own and sleeps quietly through the night. Sheila isn’t demanding or overly clingy. Her affection is steady and constant. She shows her love by being near her people, not by needing constant attention. She tolerates hugs and kisses, happily follows kids around for a few minutes, and then calmly returns to her favorite spot once everyone settles. Sheila does struggle with being left alone, especially when her primary person is gone. Even if others are home, she can become anxious. She self-soothes by curling up on a bed and resting, and she does best in a home where someone is around for most of the day. Because of this, she is not a good candidate for being crated when left alone. Sheila is excellent with new people and dogs of all sizes, has never shown aggression, and has become a neighborhood favorite. She walks well on leash and actually finds comfort in it. She enjoys two long walks daily, plus a short evening walk, and loves riding in the car, tagging along on errands, and being included in everyday life. Her challenges are minor: being left alone, having her paws wiped, and brushing (which she tolerates well). In return, she offers something rare. Calm companionship, reliability, and a peaceful presence. Sheila would thrive in an active home that enjoys walks, hikes, or outdoor time, but also values quiet evenings. She is wonderful with children, gentle with older adults, and exceptionally well-mannered indoors. She would make an excellent office companion or side-by-side buddy for someone who works from home. Sheila doesn’t ask for much. She just wants to be near you. And once she is, your life feels a little steadier because of it.

Story
Awwooooo!!! Adopt me!   LAKOTA is an affectionate, gentle, playful (and at first - a little bit shy). but is now available for adoption to the public!!   Background: Lakota was picked up as a stray on 7/27 and brought to a shelter. He was thin and leggy, and originally thought to be a wolf hybrid (and therefore rescue only to wolf-sanctuaries). He stole our heart and we advocated for him by presenting info to the staff which gave them the resources to properly phenotype him. We also presented his photos & videos to other rescue groups that specialize in Northern breeds who also weighed in. Our favorite, wolf-sanctuary-sister-rescue and friend, Dr. Lorin Linder, Ph.D., MPH. of Lockwood Animal Rescue Center also reviewed the photos/videos and provided her expert opinion to the shelter. He's now been properly labeled as an Alaskan Malamute mix and because of his lovely, friendly temperament, can become the forever companion to a very lucky person or family.   Despite all of Lakota's people-friendly qualities, Lakota is reactive to other dogs so only adopters with experience with strong, Northern breed dogs will be considered, and he will not be placed in a home with other dogs or pets.
