Story
Meet Max Mailman! Little Max's mom fell asleep in her recliner and sadly never woke up. Friends of ours from the San Diego House Rabbit Society were called to her house, because her rabbits were micro-chipped to their organization. They retrieved the rabbits and offered to help place her beloved dog, Max, too. They called us, and Max became a Frosted Face on November 9, 2022. He is 14 years old and weighs 20 lbs. We've had a bunch of Frosted Faces named "Max", so he got the fun nickname Max Mailman because he is so friendly, and his ears are in the wind as he "rushes from house to house," more like person to person seeking pets in the yard! Like many seniors, Max is vision impaired, but he at least sees shadows. It doesn't slow him down either! Max Mailman loves going on our weekly FFF hikes, and he glides along the trails gracefully with his long legs. He acts younger than his years! Max is a super sweet, fun-sized guy who has lived with bunnies, dogs, cats, and horses! He has been living in a Foster home since December while he waits for his forever family. His Foster Mom shares: "Max is the perfect companion! He just wants to be close to his person. He enjoys laying on the couch with me, but he also sleeps in his dog bed. Max is very friendly with people and is always wagging his tail. He does so well in a home! Max seems to like all food and likes to be left alone while eating. He loves to run when he is outside to go potty. While he does sometimes have accidents inside, it's manageable by taking him outside frequently and using diapers. Max doesn't like my cats, because due to his poor vision, he can't always see when they're nearby. He will try to chase them if he sees one, but he's too slow for them though! Max is a great guy, very quiet and always ready to give kisses & tail wags. He just wants someone to love. He follows me around the house all the time. He loves hanging out in the kitchen. He enjoys napping most of the day and sleeps well through the night." Max Mailman has a great foster home, but he is still looking for his forever home. Might it be with YOU?

Story
Meet Feebee! Feebee was adopted back in 2013. She and her family had many great years together, but then her mom and dad had a baby and moved into a new house. Both were a tough adjustment for Feebee, by then a senior, and vision and hearing impaired. Juggling the care of a toddler and a dog was too much for them. On September 11th, Feebee became a Frosted Face. She is 14 years old and weighs 13 lbs. Feebee is a very gentle, sweet girl who loves every person she meets! She enjoys being petted, sitting on laps, and cuddling. Feebee is good with cats and other dogs. She enjoys car rides and is a perfect companion to run errands, go to a coffee shop, and eat on a restaurant patio with! Feebee still enjoys going on walks and exploring with her nose. Feebee went on a two-week Frosted Fling, and her fling family offered to give her a Foster home until she is adopted! We are so happy Feebee is enjoying extra TLC in the comforts of a home. Her Foster Mom shares: "Feebee is a sweet, tender girl who just wants to hang with the family. She is cute as a button, comfortable with other dogs, and a great eater. She is crate trained and will let you know if she needs to go potty. Feebee is an excellent walker, especially for a mostly blind dog!"

Story
Meet Yogi! Yogi entered Baldwin Park Shelter as a stray, and when he wasn't claimed, we scooped him up on October 27th to become a Frosted Face. He is around 12 years old and weighs 16 lbs. Yogi LOVES going for walks and playing with toys! Yogi went on a two-week Frosted Fling soon after he arrived at FFF, and being in a home environment helped him decompress after his stressful experiences as a stray and in the shelter. We received a great report from his Fling Family: "Yogi is a cute little dude! He is learning to relax. He's finding his comfy spots throughout the home. Sometimes it's his bed and sometimes it's the middle of our floor! He is still a perfect pack pup. He does well with our dogs and our cat and enjoys playing. Yogi gets excited whenever we get up and has a little pep in his step when following us around. He loves to be greeted by our dogs and wags his tail when approached. He also enjoys his walks with the pack and likes to stop frequently to explore the neighborhood smells. Yogi can still be a little spicy about being picked up. We practiced using a treat, gave it to him, and then quickly picked him up onto the couch. Everything was too quick for him to get upset and he had a mouthful of treat, so no naughty behaviors that time. He will need someone who is patient and can work with that behavior. It'll take time, but I think he would come around as his trust grows. Yogi deserves a special family who can appreciate the quirks - spiciness included. He is a really chill guy who just wants to spend time near you. Doesn't jump on furniture either, if that's not your jam. He enjoys pets and kisses from his people. And he will reciprocate his love for you with the gentlest of kisses. He has gotten really great about sleeping through the whole night. Doesn't wake up at all anymore. Please someone scoop this sweet guy up soon!" Yogi is currently on a second Fling as he waits for his forever home. His Fling Mom shares: "Can you resist the Yogi look? He is ready for a forever home. A little patience pays off! He is a sweet dog who really wants loving. He is potty trained and will head to the door when he has to go. Yogi is a foodie and has put on some needed weight since being here. Today he got so excited as l prepared his dinner that he started dancing around the kitchen! Yogi loves going outside. He gets along perfectly well with my mini Schnauzer and even wags his tail when the cat comes up to him. His hearing and sight is somewhat limited, but he knows where his bed is and even puts himself in his soft enclosure at night. Yogi doesn't have separation anxiety while I'm gone. Yogi sleeps a lot and wants to be in whatever room the humans are in. He would do great in a home with another chill dog." Yogi longs for a family of his own that understands he needs time to feel safe. He has so much love to give and is a lot of fun! If you have a Yogi-sized spot in your heart, please email our Placement Coordinators at adopt@frostedfacesfoundation.org.

Story
Meet Yolo! Yolo entered Baldwin Park Shelter as a stray, and when he wasn't claimed, we scooped him up on December 16th to become a Frosted Face. Yolo is around 14 years old, weighs 17 lbs., and is very sweet. Shortly after Yolo arrived, he left on a two-week Frosted Fling for the holidays. We are so grateful to his Fling Family for extending their time with Yolo, so he could recover from surgery on January 9th to repair a perineal hernia. He was also neutered. Fortunately, Yolo came through surgery very well, did not bother the incisions, and was able to stop wearing an e-collar much earlier than planned. He is so much healthier and happier than he was two months ago! Thanks to Yolo's Fling Family, we have learned a lot about what he is like in a home setting with other dogs and the type of care he needs to thrive. They share: "Yolo loves a good cuddle. He is wonderful with adults, but because of his vision he does startle if someone approaches him without giving a verbal cue, but he has never reacted badly. Yolo prefers to eat with our other dogs but never guards his food (even when they steal pieces from him). He is a member of the clean bowl club, always finishes his food but does not try to steal the food from other dogs. He also prefers to eat his kibble from a snuffle mat instead of a bowl, plays with a food toy and shares it with his Fling "sister. Yolo's exercise tolerance is limited to less than 1/4 mile. Because of his visual impairment, he needs to be watched carefully, so that he does not bump into sharp bushes/objects or fall off curbs. He would do well with a halo harness. He does not do well on stairs (he "surfed down a few steps on his belly because he could not see the height/depth of the stair going down. He does not attempt to climb stairs, possibly due to some hip or shoulder arthritis. Mostly we carry him down anything more than 3 steps). We use baby gates to protect him from unsupervised stair surfing. Yolo would do well in a single story home or a home where there are few steps. Yolo does well with dogs his size, and has had no reactivity to them even when they are reactive or aggressive towards him. He just gets out of harm's way. He does want to snuggle with the other dogs when they let him. He is a little timid around big dogs because he can't see them so we limit his exposure only to big dogs that we know well. He does not join in barking even when our other dogs are barking at deliverymen. His only barking has been when he is hungry or when he needs to go out to potty. He rides in the car with our two dogs with no problem and sits in his place. Yolo is an excellent traveler, he makes himself comfortable on the van floor (of our Sprinter van, between the front seats) with his buddy or on the passenger's lap, with no fuss at all. He went all the way to Oregon, and back over a 2-week trip. Yolo was a perfect house guest, with no accidents or issues with a new environment (he liked joining in with his pals when barking at squirrels and quail). He loved exploring the yard, sniffing around the travel rest stops and exploring our Harvest Host wineries (being a French poode, he loves the cafe scene, of course, and was a perfect gentleman while we had our wine tastings). Yolo seems so much happier and healthier over the last 6 weeks. We really want to find a forever family who would love and appreciate this mellow little fellow." Yolo feels like a new man and is ready for a loving home where he will be cherished for the rest of his life. Might that be with you?

Story
Meet Traviesa! Traviesa became a Frosted Face on January 27th. She is 18 years old and weighs 9 lbs. Traviesa is a very sweet girl who loves to snuggle, nap, and eat - all the simple pleasures of a laid back senior dog! Traviesa went on a two-week Frosted Fling while she recovered from spay and mass removal surgery, and it turned into a Foster home. We are so thankful she is getting extra TLC in the comfort of a home. Her Foster Mom reports: "Traviesa is the best. She literally gets along with everyone, including our other dogs, cats, and rabbits. She is quiet and sweet, so she doesn't bother them, and they don't bother her. Traviesa took a while to decompress here. She was clearly traumatized when we first brought her home. She was a bit scared of people touching her, and she sometimes snapped when she was surprised. She spent a lot more time sleeping -- as though whatever she had just been through literally took everything out of her. She was in survival mode. After about two 1/2 weeks, Traviesa began to warm up to us. She allowed me to begin picking her up in a blanket and cuddling her. That is now her favorite thing in the world. She cries out for me sometimes in the middle of the day or the night if she feels scared or alone, and I scoop her up in a blanket and rock her to sleep. She dozes off in 2 minutes and sleeps for hours. Traviesa is currently eating Fresh Pet with added ground broccoli and carrots twice per day. She has a very healthy appetite! I feed her separately, so she can eat in peace. Traviesa doesn't indicate she needs to go potty, so we put her out every 4-6 hours, and she does her business. Traviesa finally just allowed us to give her a full bath with a face wash this last week. Before she acted like it hurt her, but now I realize I think she was just nervous. Now she is clean and fluffy (as much as she can be with such thin hair). She is a very sweet old girl who just needs a home where she can be protected, and cuddled, and warm, and fed. She is a very, very, very low-maintenance gal. We call her our golden girl." Traviesa needs a loving forever home that is calm and gentle, just like her! *This is a courtesy listing.* Meet Padre! 8-year-old Padre needs a loving new home. His mom recently moved to assisted living, and sadly, he can't go with her. She describes Padre as her "most beloved friend" and is heartbroken about having to rehome him. They have been together since she rescued Padre when he was 4 weeks old. He is now 8 years old and is very healthy and up-to-date on vaccinations. Padre is a sweet and mellow homebody, who also enjoys going for car rides and walks. He loves people and is very enthusiastic when his mom has visitors. He has lived with other dogs most of his life, but tends to be scared of new dogs. After being carefully introduced and given time to feel safe with the new dog, Padre will make a new friend. Padre is house-trained and knows how to use a doggie door. He is used to going to bed at 9:00 pm and sleeps throug the night. If you are looking for a gentle, loving companion, please consider adopting Padre! To learn more, please contact Sharon by texting 619-504-9308 or emailing a99accord@outlook.com. *Frosted Faces Foundation has not assessed this dog medically or behaviorally.*

ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Meet Jacks! Jacks is a 13 pound, 6 year old, hypoallergenic Poodle / Maltese mix. Jacks has a bite history and will need an experienced owner who is willing to work with him to build trust. Jacks has been patiently waiting for his forever home since his rescue from the local shelter in April 2022.    He is very loving and affectionate and loves to kiss and nibble noses, ears, and mouths if given the chance. He loves sitting right on your lap, snuggling as close as possible to you. He loves to be touching you, but doesn't love to be touched BY you. He is not a dog that likes touching or petting and will react out of fear and bite hands if provoked. We do not recommend he be around children or people who are unable to understand not to touch him. Don't mistake his fear for aggression, he has never gone after anyone for no reason. All bites were the result of being approached by hands (even with the best intentions). Despite his fear of hands, he does quite well in first encounters with strangers and has never bitten a stranger or the vet.    Jacks is extremely smart, he learned to use "Hunger For Words" talking buttons very quickly to communicate his basic needs such as "dinner", "outside", "play", and "water". He considers his crate as his safe space, where he can go when he's feeling overwhelmed. He walks very well on a leash and can walk at heel. He does great on walks and doesn't react to other dogs, cats, or humans even in busy/loud places. Jacks is very calm and well behaved during the day while his foster parents are working from home, mostly sleeping with a few potty breaks. However, he can be very vocal when he's ready for his evening walk or play time, or when his favorite person leaves the room. He does not like to be left alone and bonds very quickly.    Jacks is very playful and active. He loves to run, hike, and walk. He can go far distances at a fast pace. He does best behaviorally when he gets at least a 30 minute walk per day, although we recommend even more activity if possible. He loves to play with toys including antlers, plush squeaky toys, and other chew toys. He is somewhat treat-motivated and loves going through his tricks such as sit, shake, high five, hold hands, up, lay down, roll over, and even going "over" and "under" hurdles.    Jacks currently lives in a foster home with 2 other dogs. He is very submissive to other pets and has never bitten another animal. He is potty trained, but he may mark in an environment with other dogs if there is a smell of past pee.    He takes anti-anxiety medication Trazodone daily for his anxiety. Plan on getting Jacks groomed every 6-8 weeks. He has a special sedating medicine that can be used, and we can recommend a groomer in San Diego who is familiar with his needs.    With a lot of love and dedication, Jack will make the perfect dog for the right family. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccines. His adoption fee is $300. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to  www.secondchancedogrescue.org  and complete an application today!    All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.  May 4, 2024, 12:45 am

Our time as well as your time is valuable. Please don't waste valuable time that is so precious for a rescued pet. Every single wasted time is a time that an animal will die because we didn't get to them on time to help them. In addition, of wasting gas and grooming fees which are paid by volunteers. Please take the time to put your shoes in the shoes of the volunteer and most of it to put your shoes on our rescued fur kids!! Please take a minute to tell yourself if you are ready to adopt and for this commitment. LIVE!! LOVE!! LAUGH!! ADOPT A RESCUED HOMELESS PET AND SAVE A LIFE!!
