Story

Characteristics: Wesley (also known as Wessie) is a loving, goofy and loyal boy. He loves hugs and cuddles, rolling in the dirt, and playing with his dog besties. We believe he is a bone-mouth sharpei mix due to his black tongue and gums. Wesley would make a great addition to any family, or just as someone's adventure buddy. Background: Wesley grew up in a home, where he was eventually surrendered due to a baby being born in the family. There was an account of Wesley guarding the baby from the parent, although we don’t know exact details about the situation. Wesley has been shown to be protective of women, as well as female dogs in his time here at Como, but has never resource guarded a person in our care. Current progress: Wesley has made so much progress here, from no interaction with other dogs previously, to now spending everyday with his dog best friends. He is still a little nervous meeting male dogs. He has responded very well to building his confidence, and is now non reactive, having calm interactions with strangers. Cat tested: Can be tested. Kids: All ages, meet and greet (can be nippy when playing). On leash: Wesley is a puller, but receptive to corrections. We would recommend a front pull harness, which he is a lot better on. Behavior concerns: Potentially playing rough with another dog in the home, or stress redirection. When playing, he can get nippy when overly excited (usually goes for pants). Training receptiveness: Wesley has a great drive to please, and his breeds really make a great mix of a calm protector. He can take a little while to process things however, but is still very easy to work with when training. When you adopt a dog from Como Animal Works, you are provided free boarding as a courtesy and comfort of the dog being familiar with our facility. We also provide free training sessions on-site or at the home while the dog is transitioning to home life. Our goal is to help keep dogs out of overcrowded shelters and provide much needed dog socialization during that time.

Story

Cupid or Cupi or Cup-Cup is the most handsome boy! He is ready to rock your world with love! Are you looking for your forever Valentine? Meet Cupid! He is fantastic with other dogs. We haven’t witnessed him playing yet but confident that is right around the corner. He is the boy that quickly bonds with his people. He is loves both men and women equally. Not many dogs will climb up on the sofa and lay down next to you the same day they get out of the shelter where they have been for almost a month. His eyes are absolutely to die for! No Entropion surgery needed for this guy He will soon have a gorgeous brush coat. Right now he is on the thin side and his coat is a bit dull from poor nutrition. He loves to eat so guessing we will getting him looking fabulous pretty quick. He is super treat motivated so training will be a breeze with him. This guy was absolutely horrible in the bath tub...I mean really he can't be 100% perfect but we are confident with a few baths under his belt he will be so much better. He was never aggressive in the tub but both him and his foster mom were squeaky clean when it was all over. Cupid has impeccable house manners. He would never dream of lifting his leg in the house and peeing. He is working on his dog door skills. He isn't a huge fan of the crate and has been noted to sing a short song of protest just so his foster mom hurries home. Slate is a perfect description of this boys coloring. It's gray with blue undertones...well he is a bit spotty right now but with some great care being given by his foster mom we are confident he will look pretty amazing in a short period of time. This boy is a bit sight impaired at the moment due to severe cherry eye and entropion but you would never guess it. We are excited to see those gorgeous peepers next week post surgery. He is fantastic with other dogs both big and small. He is completely house trained and walks great on a leash. He is crate trained as well. Everyone who meets this boy raves about how sweet and friendly he is. Have we mentioned how much this boy loves his stuffies? His new home will need to provide him with an unlimited supply of squishy toys. He is never without one in his mouth and he loves to tuck himself into bed with his toys next to him. Do you need a ride or die in your life? Chloe Mei might be just the one! She is a two year old petite girl that is literally a pocket Pei. She only weighs 39 lbs This girl has done absolutely spectacular with every dog she has met...yep you read that correctly! Female dogs..no problem. Old grouchy dogs..no problem. She loves to play so we would love a home with another playful dog that will check that box for her. We think she would do great with a dog savvy cat as this girl as no aggression and we have yet to see even the inkling of a prey drive. Kids in your life...Chloes likes them too. Want a dog that you can dress up...yep she enjoys that. Love to go out for coffee at your local coffee shop..Chloe is up for that too. She loves a puppaccinno. You like to Hike...yep she likes that but can pull a bit on the leash. Her foster mom walks all three dogs at the same time and even though we think she is a bit like SuperWoman this is not a difficult girl to walk on a leash. Your dog makes a huge fuss at meal time...not Chloe. She is happy with whatever is on the menu. She is not a picky eater and in fact will compliment you on your cooking even if you are the type that tends to burn water. You prefer to sit on the couch and watch a good Netfix series...yep she likes that especially if it involves her cuddling on the couch with you and maybe a little popcorn. She LOVES snacks! This girl does like snuggling up to her people so if you don't like dogs and don't like being loved all over this IS NOT the dog for you. Looking for a Shar Pei with zero skin or eye issues. Chloe has a gorgeous velvet coat and she has already had her entropion surgery. House Trained...yep. Why would you ever get a puppy when you can have a Chloe? She would never dream of having an accident in the house! Love having lots of people to your house for the Holidays? Well this social butterfly is down for that too. Especially if her favorite people are invited over. Find barking dogs annoying..no worries this girl only barks when a new person enters the house. Hate crates...no problem this girl is so well behaved in the house she doesn't need one. Love crates..no problem she is totally fine with being crated. She sleeps in her crate in her foster home only because that is Chloe's favorite spot when its time to go to bed Your dream vacation is driving across the country and checking out all the beauty this country has to offer...no problem exactly what Chloe has on her bucket list as well! You like Beach vacations....She has the dog beach in San Diego on her bucket list as well. You like mountain vacations...well so does Chloe. Meet Dolce — Sweet by Name, Sweet by Nature Fostering in Phoenix AZ Dolce truly lives up to her name — she’s the definition of sweet! This lovely girl has had a bit of a rollercoaster journey and somehow found herself in need of rescue twice. We like to think we’re pretty great at screening adopters, but clearly, Dolce slipped through the cracks — and we’re determined to get it right this time! She’s wonderful with other dogs and has previously lived with kids. We’re not sure about cats yet, but she’s such a gentle soul we wouldn’t be surprised if she did just fine with a proper introduction. She is amazing with big and small dogs. Her BFFs are a malinois and a shitzu. She has done great with literally every dog she has met. Dolce is healthy. She walks nicely on a leash, rides like a champ in the car, and has great house manners. This girl adores her walks and will go for miles if you are up for it! She is house trained and crate trained which is huge if you have ever spent months cleaning up after puppies that are not house trained! No one wants their house smelling like a kennel! This girl has amazing skills at making you feel safe in your own home! She has had some basic training and her foster is a professional dog trainer so she will absolutely come with support for any future training! Have we mentioned how much she loves water? Zero fear of the pool in fact looks at the pool as her own very large water bowl. She will also jump right in the shower with you if given the opportunity. Her only “flaw”? She doesn’t have that classic Shar Pei look — but what she lacks in wrinkles, she makes up for in personality and heart. She had her wellness check and her bloodwork was perfect! She has a little arthritis in both of her knees and takes an occasional doggie ibuprofen when the weather changes and she gets a bit stiff. If you’re looking for a loving, easygoing companion with a whole lot of sweetness, Dolce might just be your girl. She would be ideal for first time pet owners, seniors looking for that pet to keep them active or anyone that is ready for a full time certified cuddler.
