At just 16 lbs and 3 - 4 months old, his name says it all—Champ is a true champion of cheerfulness, cuteness, and confidence! He and his siblings, Grumpy-Bear and Surprise-Bear, are named after the classic Care Bears, and they have the charm to prove it! They are all on the hunt for their paw-fect families! Champ is crate trained, does well in a car, loves toys, and has a blast playing with his siblings (check out his videos to see the fun for yourself!). He’s super affectionate, great with kids and other dogs, and is currently living with two active boys aged 7 and 9. Champ will keep you entertained with his adorable antics and is an easygoing dog who seems to adapt to his environment very easily. His foster mom says he loves to play hard and nap harder! Sure, he’s a puppy and will need some training but his foster family is already hard at work with him on obedience. Champ is progressing well with his potty training. Meet Dot - she can sure make a point! Dot is a sharpei mix that is full grown and currently weighs 31 pounds. We believe she is 1 to 2 years old and is amazingly sweet with humans!! Dot is great with other dogs in causal settings (like on a walk) but does have resource guarding issues with food and toys with other dogs. Given her resource guarding issues with other dogs we believe Dot should be in an home as an only dog or someone with experience/trained in resource guarding behavior. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. When Jody and Buffy were first seen, they roamed the streets with their mother and siblings. It took some time to trap these two. The 3rd sibling was hit by a truck trailer and passed away. The mother and 4th dog were never seen again. When they came to us, they were very skinny and had very bad skin. Good food and vet care, and they are now healthy and ready to go home. Born sometime in April 2023 Jody weighs 35 lbs. in mid-December Loves being patted He sleeps up against the foster. He would love attention and love and it would affect on his trust of you. Jody is very playful. He Loves squeaky toys. Sabre, the third sibling of our two babies, Shar-pei, was found on the highway after one sibling was hit by a truck, and Sabre and momma were nowhere to be seen. After a few months, here she is, in the shelter, very pregnant and with not much time left for her to live. We didn't think twice and went to the shelter to save our 3rd missing sibling. No more than two days passed, and she gave birth to nine beautiful puppies. (Three puppies still await their home: Moonshine, Vodka, and Whiskey. You can find them on our Petfinder) Sabre was an incredible young mother, but now it's time for her to start enjoying life for herself. Sabre is estimated to be about one year old. She is fully vaccinated and will be spayed before going home. She is a very loving girl, very friendly with all the animals and the humans she met. She walks well on a leash. She seems to be house-trained. Foster says she is a great dog!! STATEN ISLAND, NY: Handsome, good-boy Koda is on a mission to find his forever home, where he can shower his family with affection and snuggle up for pets! Charming Koda is 3 years young and weighs 70 lbs. He was known as Newark in the shelter, but has been lovingly dubbed Koda with his foster. He is affectionate and loves being touched, pet, rubbed, scratched – and is always ready to snuggle! Sadly, he was found as a stray wandering alone on Staten Island before arriving at the city shelter. AmsterDog was able to pull him to safety thanks to his foster, who fell in love with his gorgeous smile and deep, beautiful eyes (he has that effect on people!). Koda has been such a good boy while decompressing, and wow, is he thankful for some cozy blankets and a bed. He has been through a lot so decompression and slow, proper introductions are crucial for this boy’s success. Koda was dog-tested at the shelter and he did well, even going for a walk alongside another dog just fine. He was also around a cat briefly with his original finder and was non-reactive. Koda has been going on lots of adventures with his foster - check out our social media for some videos of Koda, his progress, and even catching some waves at the beach! Koda is food-motivated and easily directed; food is his language, so he will do anything for a treat: he has even already picked up how to sit on command!
