Story
Please read everything below and submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org if this pup seems like a good fit for your family :) BLINI  is arriving to NYC on 2/17/24. They are available for foster to adopt starting that day. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the subject line BLINI if you are interested.  BLINI - Sharpei Mix, 9 weeks, 4lbs, (as of 2/17/24), Spayed, Expected to Be about 40lbs Full Grown  We cannot guarantee breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses, though! Home Recommendation Puppies do best in homes that are ready to commit to their needs. Raising a puppy is lots of fun but we won’t beat around the bush: it’s also a lot of work. Puppies can be raised in the city or out of the city. They are very adaptable. Puppies need adopters that are full of energy themselves and can keep up with their new four legged best friend.  Level of Dog Ownership Experience Needed  BLINI  is an Intermediate level puppy. This means that ideally the adopter has primary dog ownership of a breed or energy level similar to this pup. At a minimum the adopter should have solid experience doing things like dog sitting, or fostering young dogs or dogs of a similar breed. This means that if you've only dog sat, fostered or owned a senior dog or low energy breed then this isn't the right fit for you. Adopters should have some hands-on experience with taking care of puppies and/or teenagers. Adopters should be comfortable around working breed dogs. Adopters should be ready for everything that entails raising a puppy: lots of training, patience and socialization. All puppies have the potential to develop into the goodest boys and girls but it’s in the hands of the adopter. Lastly, adopters should truly understand that a puppy is going to go through many developmental phases. Energy Level  Higher - - As an adult this pup will need a solid continuous 90 minute walk (at a minimum) in addition to potty breaks/relief walks/short walks. Working breed dogs were bred to do jobs so it’s super important to make sure that they get the right level of exercise and stimulation daily. Working breed dogs need more than just simply being “let out in the yard”.  Personality        Life of the Party - - Puppies are sweet, fun and little energizer bunnies.  Cuddle Factor High - - Most puppies love to cuddle with their humans. They are affectionate and love some good cuddles.  Potty Trained Working On This Skill - - This puppy is currently a paws off the ground puppy (hasn’t finished vaccine series). This means that if the puppy is going outside it shouldn’t be walking around. Okay to have this puppy walk around in a private outdoor area like a yard or courtyard but can’t be in a high traffic area like a park and most NYC streets. At this age puppies use pee pads. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency and of course cleaning up. Comfy With Strangers? Yes - - Puppies are super friendly with new people, they love to make friends. It’s super important to socialize puppies in a safe controlled environment.  Social With Children?  (ALWAYS requires supervision) Yes - - Puppies are okay for homes with respectful kids aged 6 and up. Puppies are not a good match for kids younger than 6 years old as puppies go through teething phases: which can be very intense and result in little kids getting hurt.  Social With Dogs? Yes - - Puppies have all the potential to be extremely social with other dogs. Socializing puppies with other puppies and adult dogs is a huge part of raising a puppy. It should be done in a safe and controlled environment: puppy classes and playdates with trusted dogs are a great way to do this.  Social With Cats? Yes - - Fun fact all puppies have the potential to be best friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to help set boundaries with the cat (like not being able to chase the cat). The cat should also be a friendly cat as a puppy is not a great idea for a grumpy cat.  Mouthy Play   High - - puppies go through really mouthy phases. The mouthy phase is partly due to “teething” but also a big part of mouthy behavior is the puppy brain developing into an adult dog brain and having a need to play.  Important for adopters to be ready for this can. It can be one of the more challenging parts of puppyhood. Proper training, socialization, stimulation and boundary setting is very important for getting mouthy behavior under control. Leash Manners Will Need to Learn This Skill - - This puppy is currently an indoor puppy/paws off the ground (hasn’t finished with the vaccine series yet). But, it’s never too early to start training for leash skills. Many trainers recommend starting to train the command heel (best way to prevent pulling on the leash) from an early age. For puppies that are going to grow up to be a decent size we highly recommend investing in professional leash training from a young age (easier to teach them when they are small versus being in a position where they are dragging you down the street).  Jumping Manners Will Need to Learn This Skill - - Puppies are prone to jumping up on people when they are excited. It’s important to work on this behavior from an early age. It’s cute when they are little but not so much when they are full grown. Good habits start early. Separation Anxiety Medium - -  Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10 ish minutes when they are first left alone or being crated. It’s super important to leave your puppy home alone every single day so that they can practice this skill and grow their self confidence.  Medical Status Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella Vaccine. Adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age. Spayed(females)/Neutered (males) and microchipped. De-wormed upon intake.  How Did They End Up With Social Tees Animal Rescue? This pup was originally left anonymously at a high volume shelter in TN where they were at risk of euthanasia. Our rescue partner based down there pulled this dog, had the initial veterinary care done, and transported them to NYC. While in Social Tees care, they are kept in attentive and loving foster homes. Many dogs are rescued from the south because the pet overpopulation problem there is much worse than it is in the northern parts of the country. This seems to be because far fewer people are having their pets spayed/neutered in the south, the climate is warmer so animals are reproducing year round, and the human population in these areas is less dense so there aren't enough people to adopt them. In NYC and the surrounding area, we have a large human population, which in turn means the animals find forever homes at a higher rate up here. :) PLEASE NOTE: This animal is not at the Social Tees office — all of our dogs and cats are in foster homes while they wait to find their forever families. :) If you’d like to apply to adopt this pet, please complete an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Because we are a small team and receive hundreds of applications each week, we are unable to respond to every application and every inquiry email, but we do our best. BEAUX - 3 years, 40lbs, Shar-Pei  Mix, Neutered Please read everything below and submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org if this pup seems like a good fit for your family. :) Their Foster Parent Says:  "Beau has been a great dog overall during the past few days. He is incredibly friendly to my friends and I. He loves to be pet and snuggle with whoever he’s next to. Loves to get on his back for tummy rubs. Surprisingly, he knows commands fairly well (sit, down, stay, and even shake). Typical routine has been an hour ish walk in the morning around 8:00am, and quick 15min bathroom stop around noon, an hour ish walk around 5:00pm, and then one or maybe two bathroom breaks later in the evening/night. Cannot overstate enough how chill he is. I thought for the first few days that he was simply incapable of barking. He is SOOO quiet (which I think is great in a busy city/apartment building). When he needs to go to the bathroom, he will quietly sit by my door, but never whine. He does this at a max like twice a day. Haven’t had much luck with engaging him with toys, but will keep you posted. He is a HUGE cuddler. Probably the most I’ve ever seen in a dog. Always wants to be next to me/in the same room at all times, but will respect my space through a simply stay command. Loves his daily kibble and use it as a treat. Pretty low matienence dog. As for challenges, I’ll caveat by saying that I’ve only had him for a few days, and he’s shown a lot of improvement here. He's working on his leash skills. He pulls pretty hard, and when he finds something he wants to smell, it’s tough to break his attention. Otherwise, I do not see any cons for a prospective owner of Beau. He’s honestly a dream dog for anyone in the city." Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 60 to  90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) PLEASE NOTE: Adopter should be ready to take on all of the health issues that this breed is known for. Zero does suffer from skin issues that he is being treated for by a vet.  Energy Level: MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle bug level:  High - - Doesn’t necessarily sit in my lap, but will curl up next to me on the couch or in bed. Probably the most cuddly dog I’ve ever seen, even from day 1. Super respectful of space too. If I don’t want him directly next to me, I can point/pat a spot a bit further away and he will instantly move over. Seems super smart. Potty trained? Yes - -  Zero accidents. Will wait by the door as a cue he needs to go out. Comfy with strangers? Yes - - He is SUPER friendly with friends that I have over, but not in a jumpy or ecstatic way. On walks he seems mildly uninterested in other people/dogs on the street. If someone wants to pet him he’ll oblige, but he won’t go out of his way to approach strangers. I view this as a huge positive. Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision) Yes - - Okay for a home with respectful kids aged 8 and up.  Social with other dogs? Yes - - I haven’t had any direct playdates with other dogs yet, but the dogs he sees on the street he does not bark at ever or show any signs of aggression. If anything, he’s a bit curious but won’t go out of his way to meet them. Beau is the type of dog who might not want to have 1 on 1 playdates but is fine walking in the city with other dogs.  Respectful of other small animals? (cats, pocket pets, etc.) Not Sure - - We don't know how he'll do in a home with cats.  Mouthy behavior: Past this stage in his life - - Very respectful with his mouth  Leash manners: Working On This– Beau likes to pull hard when he smells good smells. He's working on this though and making improvements. Would recommend doing some professional leash training with a trainer.  Okay in the city? Yes - - Beau is okay to live in the city. He is not bothered by it at all.  Jumping to say hi? Low  – Never seen him jump on anyone, ever. He will only ever sort of jump when I bring the leash out in the morning. Separation anxiety? Nope - - seems fine being left alone  Crate trained? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Haven't used one. He sleeps in my bed.  Medical status: Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). Story
Tank & Chrissy are gorgeous, gentle and very sweet purebred shar peis who were given up to the rescue after their owner in rural Mississippi passed away. They are just wonderful dogs, friendly and loving and very bonded. We would love for them to be adopted together. Tank and Chrissy are not siblings, their owner purchased them from a breeder with the intent to breed and then sell puppies. Chrissy had one litter and then her owner passed away. Wag spayed and neutered Tank and Chrissy once they came to the rescue, Wags also paid for necessary eye surgery for both dogs and they have recovered well. Unfortunately, they are both heartworm positive, but have a mild cases and are being treated. They will be two years old this summer. We have decided to list them now to see if we can find a potential adopter who is willing to adopt them together and either wait for them to finish their heartworm treatment or even adopt them and continue the treatment on their own. They really are extremely easy and just the nicest dogs and deserve a loving home of their own.   At the rescue Tank and Chrissy live with other dogs and are friendly to kids and are well socialized. They love to play together, adore toys and bones and are both major snuggle bugs. We have not listed an adoption fee for Tank and Chrissy—their vet bills have been into the thousands between the eye surgery, spay, neuter, and heartworm treatment, and we are not expecting that to be reimbursed but would like to discuss the fee with any potential adopters. Wags is a struggling 501(c) 3  where one woman cares for 150 dogs in a small town in Mississippi.   For more information on Tank & Chrissy please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com     April 25, 2024, 10:59 pm

Coco Foster/Home Needed –Long Island, NY Meet Coco. This gorgeous girl is a Shar Pei mix, about 8yrs old and weighs roughly 50lbs. Coco likes people and everyone she meets falls in love with her. The staff at her current shelter adore her and say she is easy to manage. She is fine with other dogs in most situations, but she gets a little nervous if they invade her personal space. She is attracted to puppies and calm dogs, but is not a fan of felines. She is interested in kids but children over 13yrs would be best. Unlike many dogs, storms and fireworks do not bother Coco. She’s not necessarily a lap dog but she loves to be with her people. She likes car rides and naps, she loves to be brushed and she’s good in the bath. Coco loves water and is a good swimmer. She grows weary of the shelter life but absolutely shines outside of there. She’s very agile and smart. Coco is house trained, crate trained and good on a leash. She is spayed and UTD on all. If you have the heart, home and time for this sweet girl, please contact adoptions@paws-li.org or go to our FB page or call the number listed below. Story
WARRENSBURG, NY: This handsome fella wants to Buck-le up for a car ride with you - It's BUCKY! Who doesn't love a creamsicle? Well, this creamsicle can also love you back! And Bucky will quickly steal your heart with his gorgeous, smooth orange-cream coat and dark, brooding eyes. Bucky is a young dog at 2 years old and weighs 67 lbs. Through no fault of his own, Bucky had been patiently waiting in the city shelter for 4 very long months. He needed emergency placement and thanks to our foster GraceAnn, AmsterDog was able to rescue him. And he has truly blossomed since, showing his perfect personality as a loving family pet. Friendly and affectionate, Bucky loves to spend time with his person/people. Bucky is good with kids, friendly with other dogs, outgoing when meeting new people, and allows grooming/bathing - wow, what a resume! And his opening statement is very much true - Bucky LOVES to go for car rides. He even knows the command "sit"; he really does just want to make you so happy! Bucky also has impeccable leash manners, but no cats for him, please. If you can open your heart and home to loving boy Bucky, please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414 or by e-mail at info@amsterdog.org. Apply to adopt Bucky at AmsterDog.org. Thanks for caring about a pet in need!
