Sienna is learning how to be a dog by total immersion. Everything is new to her right now, and she’s doing great. Just this week she started playing more with toys, including the ones her foster mom’s granddaughter brought over. Recently she cuddled for 15 minutes on a lap and even asked for pets on her own! Sienna has also just started taking treats offered by hand. Trust is still something she’s learning, but she really wants to achieve it, and she’s making steady progress every day. Because everything is so new to her and she hasn’t been at her foster’s long, Sienna can be a bit timid. Her behavior when meeting new people is to walk away, but then observe from a safe distance. Even though she can be hesitant at first, she was willing to be petted by an 8-year-old who came to visit. Outside, she likes to explore first and is willing to walk on a leash to potty. Actually, Sienna loves going for walks around the neighborhood, and she knows to lie down when the leash is being put on. Sienna is described as incredibly sweet. Everyone she meets just wants to show her some love. All these behaviors are amazing for a dog just learning everything, including trust. Radar is an adorable 12-week-old sheltie who’s guaranteed to warm your heart. He’s currently living in a foster home with other dogs, including his sibling Echo. He absolutely loves the company of his canine companions and especially enjoys his outside time exploring and playing with his friends. Radar has some challenges to navigate. He has partial hearing and vision loss, but that hasn’t slowed him down at all. In fact, his foster family says he is very eager to learn and is especially motivated by treats and foods. He’s already working on “sit” and touch commands, and he’s proven to be a quick study. Radar enjoys his inside time, playing with toys on his own and snuggling up with his foster family regularly. And they call it puppy love...Echo is a very cute, active 12-week-old double merle sheltie. He is completely deaf and severely vision impaired; however, that does not stop him from having fun. His foster says he’s very confident and will play with her adult shelties and his brother Radar without hesitation. Running and playing outside with his furry friends is absolutely his favorite thing to do. Echo’s foster family is working on his commands, and thanks to his love of treats, he’s learning his touch cues and “sit” command. His foster mom describes him as incredibly sweet and cuddly. When he tires out, he prefers to lie on the couch and take a nap. Just don’t expect him to rest for long — there’s too much fun to be had, and he doesn't want to miss a thing! She tends to be active, but she eventually settles down. When meeting new people, she might jump at first, but then will accept being petted and, if she’s lucky, get her favorite thing, treats! Dusty’s still working on her social manners with other dogs. If a new dog friend reminds her of the rules, she takes the correction—especially if that friend is a confident, more dominant, take-charge type that shows her what’s what. She tends to get along best with male dogs. However, she will need to be fed separately from other dogs. Dusty is interested in cats and might chase them at times, but not to the point of annoying them. Her current foster mom says Dusty is ”genuinely a fun dog to be around.” She describes Dusty as having a “goofy, aloof personality” while still being willing to learn. Dusty has made many new dog friends while in foster care. What Dusty would love most is a home where she can go on adventures, enjoy lots of treats, and finally settle into her forever family. He is a people-loving guy who enjoys being near his foster—sometimes quietly watching from a distance, other times hanging out right by her side. He is excited when she arrives back home and greets her with some happy barks. Riley is gentle, mellow and sensitive and can be a bit shy and nervous when faced with something new, but he’s handling everything well (that said, he would probably run from something that really startled or frightened him). He’s also proven to be a great companion to the foster’s two other dogs—outside they romp and chase, and he loves sniffing out all the new and interesting smells. Riley understands commands like “sit, and he even offers his paw to shake. He comes when called, knows his name, and willingly goes into his crate at night when asked and rewarded with a treat—a skill he learned in the first week he was at his foster's. Riley has been left in the house uncrated for short periods of time and is very trustworthy.
